We had so many needs in the draft to be fair, CB/S/WR/OG/TE and our picks were backloaded in the later portion of the draft.

I wish we got a WR sooner but I also know we needed safety, cornerback and tight end help too. Not getting one WR out of this draft class who contributes on the offense is showing. I did not like the Shaq Evans pick and still don't and I think Idzik cutting Saunders is still fucking stupid and taking him rather high was stupid too. Everything but the Dozier pick in the 4th round really hurts the team right now. Cutting George was pretty dumb too in round 5.

My philosophy is this: Draft a QB every year until you finally land a Franchise QB (it doesn't have to be in round 1 or 2, but by round 5 get one). There were so many guys I liked in this years draft that we could have had with one of our 3 4th round picks.

Most of Idzik's draft picks are stupid. I was hoping he knew something I didn't during the draft so I kept quiet, but it's obvious that he did not. He's reached for WR's, OL'men, LB's etc etc.

And I detest that philosophy and you're not the only one with that on TGG. I've seen that so much on the board, I don't get why. Josh Freeman was very impressive in his 1 1/2 years to open up his NFL/Bucs career. You'd tell yourself as a franchise "We found that franchise QB. We found him."......well that didn't work out for Tampa Bay as he followed that alternate Pro Bowl 2010 campaign with some dud seasons(Had a decent few games in 2012-2013 though) before the Bucs finally cut him in 2013 and he's now out of the NFL.

You don't know what you have in your Quarterback until a good while. Do you want to see certain signs early in their career? Sure. Would it be great if they became a stud right off the bat? Yeah. But just about every QB has a phase in their career where they go into a drought and have bad game after bad game. Patience is a must for these positions in the NFL, especially the Quarterback. They may have a strong rookie campaign but then tape goes around to every coach and defensive coordinator and they find flaws and ways to combat against that Quarterback and not all QBs progress or develop after such a strong start to their rookie year. Freeman is a good, recent example. He's someone who shined early on, then year by year he just lost it and could not touch what he did to open his NFL career.

Some teams also like or want to have two QBs on their roster because they want depth at a certain position that may be injury riddled or plagued. We needed to keep Geno despite his inconsistent year 1 because he was a 2013 2nd round draft pick so I don't think anyone can disagree there and it makes the franchise look bad to let go of a 2013 2nd round pick after just 1 season. We also needed a veteran QB like a Vick to be there to step in if need be. That right there takes the two QB spots. Geno is basically the "future" QB who we will spend the year on watching and to add a rookie QB, we would had to have dropped another player from another spot to accommodate for their position on the team.

Those draft picks that you keep spending on QB after QB comeback to bite you because you can't keep all those guys drafted every year and those picks could have gone elsewhere to address the depth at a position that may have been lacking.

That is the issue at hand - and that's more than likely 1 of the reasons why Geno has been inept this year. I'm fine with drafting a QB each yr if that's what it takes - but to throw him out to the wolves with shit players will ALWAYS be a recipe for disaster. I keep preaching, you build the foundation. Geno was a project QB and he was going to fail the moment we threw him out there with shit players.

Geno has had better weapons at WVU. We can't develop a QB because we don't have the right plan for the QB.

Stokes showed the illogic of your arguments. Logic is in any event not a subjective analytic. It is ruled by objective principles.

I don't think much of the way Idzik has obtained more cap space. And I don't think he really has a plan, not a plan that is likely to bear adequate fruit.

Logical arguments do not win over such apologists as yourself, anyway, so dont concern yourself about how I might be disappointed they won't work. I don't expect them to work.

We should probably end this discussoin right now, or if you choose once you make your off the point rejoinder to this post. Have a nice day.

This is exactly why I'm hesitant to go with Mariota if we have the opportunity to. Sure, he's better than Geno, but is he so much better that he'll be able to perform with the Jets substandard offensive support? Jets need premium offensive linemen and WR's first. I'm cool if they continue to look at 3rd and 4th round prospects, if it means bolstering the offense early on.

I'd rather have a 4th round QB with Dallas' offense than a 1st round QB with ours.

And that stat is misleading and I made a simple post to Stokes saying that the percentage is not all on him. Why is it illogical? I backed it up with examples as to why that completion percentage is held down that Stokes agreed upon that there have been gimmie catches that have been dropped.

You have no idea if he has a plan or not. That's just assuming something and you have no idea that the plan won't pan out. That's all guessing. Its all bullshit.

You have a nice day too.

Loved the Joe Namath HBO special, one of my favorite parts was the Super Bowl and when coach Ewbank asked Joe in the 2nd half (maybe 4th quarter) they had a pass play and Joe said he looked up at the clock and responded, "Na, I'm going to run the clock out"

The Jets are in long need of a Qb who knows the game and runs the offense as they feel best suits down and distance, situation in the game; a leader.

And again, you want to give Geno credit for a TD after a legit time out, want to give Geno credit for drops that every QB has.

    He's 57% because he's a 57% thrower.

If you give him credit for drops then give every other QB credit for drops.

I saw 3 drops the other night for Kaepernick. He's at 64%, without all his drops he's at nearly 70%.

You happy with Geno's fake 60% now?

    How is that stat misleading?

Maybe it was misconstrued, misreported and misunderrtood too?

If you want to give Geno credit for drops then do it for EVERY QB in the HISTORY of the NFL.

Geno is now at a 60% completion rate.

    Good for your Geno fandom.

Every other good QB in the history of the NFL is now at a 70% completion rate.

    Satisfied?

No I brought that point up because you brought in the notion that he had at least 3 dropped INTs. I did not give credit to any of the almost TDs, I simply brought that point up because you mentioned he should have had a few picks along so I brought it up as a means to cancel the almost INTs with the almost TDs.

Yes, that was my whole point all along when I quoted you. Geno should at least be at 60% if you cut just half of the amount of drops by our targets. That was it really.

I told you in the initial post that all QBs suffer from drops, did I not? But Geno as shown on Sunday had an unusual amount of his passes dropped, which contributes to his completion percentage going down, which is why its a flawed statistic. I am not faulting you Stokes but just more so explaining why the completion percentage is a flawed way to judge a QB, with the example of last Sunday for instance.

What does "My Fandom" have to do with me explaining that statistic? Is it a means to discredit my explanation or posts?

2014 was the year to draft a QB in every round of the draft.

There was a thread in the draft forum with the computer generated picks and with one of my mocks I made a pick of a QB in all 7 rounds.

I did it in jest but only partially. Last year was the year to get a QB. Not 2013.

Not that we had a shot at Bortles but Teddy, Carr, Manziel, Garappolo, Mettenberger, Murray, McCarron, Savage, Fales.

Funny thing is, I also liked one of the all-time passing leaders in the ACC in terms of TDs, yards, completions, etc. and there is some dickhead Geno fan with a fake Double Decker user name that everytime I talk about the top QBs I wanted in 2014, he defaults to his Boyd insult. I liked him as a late round gamble but my top guys were always Teddy, Carr and Mettenberger with a massive flyer on Johnny Football.

You keep giving him credit for drops that EVERY QB has.

Do you realize without drops Peyton and Brady and Rogers and Brees and Rivers would be at 80%?

Flacco and Ryan and Wilson would be at 75%.

The rest of the middle dudes would be at 70%.

So you be happy with Geno at your fantasy 60%.

    Good job.

It means you have a myopic view of how the rest of the QBs in the league are effected exactly the same way.

And I never once said he's been better than those QBs but was just debunking the part of your use of completion percentage in this thread.

    http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/team-receiver-drops-percentage/2014/
(To correct the site, it should be 11 with the Salas drop this past Sunday and his TD drop vs Oakland and they're not all on the targets, Geno shares a little bit of blame for something you mentioned earlier Stokes with a difficult throw requiring a difficult catch)

16th in dropped passes, its midpack but its above the league average Team Dropped Passes on the 2014 season. Some teams have had BYEs so by about December, this list gets clearer once every team has had their BYE Week so teams like Miami and Oakland will probably drop down the list with the extra game needed to be played.

Thank you for admitting your failure.

Geno is DEAD SMACK in the middle of drops in the league.

Right in the middle. Not an outlier so much further than the rest of the league.

    Please stop.

I just said BYE weeks will factor in this which is why Miami is 2nd because they have 1 less game played.

I said Geno has been snake bitten with drops more than other QBs and he has as again, we have a higher drop rate than the league average. Never once did I say other QBs don't have drops too but I said performances like Sunday where there were multiple drops hurt the QB in that stat category you brought up.

That's why I provided that website, the Jets targets are averaging worse than the league average in the drops category.

I am not as high on the 2014 QB class as you are. You are crazy high on some of those guys.

I rate Geno Smith the prospect just as high and/or higher than most of those players. I think he'd been a second round pick in 2013 or 2014. Look at a guy like David Carr - he's not any better or worse and Carr would look very Geno Smith-like, possibly worse, in this offense with Rex Ryan coaching.

Geno Smith is no Bortles or Manziel but that's why he wasn't selected where they were either.
