He has speed and he was plenty shifty back in Oklahoma, we just prematurely cut him after 1 botched punt and because he was behind the 8 ball because of an unfortunate seizure. You just need to find plays and ways to get him the ball, that's on Marty.
to be fair.. at the time..everyone was excited with tanny trading up in the draft or making the huge splash trade
What scares me is he has had two off season and at best you can give him a C,. Now he gets like $70 million to spend in what will amount to what will define this franchise for the next 5 years. He seems intent on Geno which is still a mystery as he has been the worst QB in football for 23 games and is a low cost 2nd round pick, hasn't been great with free agency, has tried to bring in questionable character guys which have blown up in his face, and has had to overpay for the guys he did get in.
They were, Jet fans wanted results and really thought they had a SB contender in 2010 and 2011 so I get it but that doesn't make it right to mortgage the future in doing so. Some of the trades like a Thomas Jones, Santonio Holmes(The extension was the problem), Kris Jenkins? Very good deals for us, absolutely. But we still gave up draft picks and guys who could potentially be on this team right now.
Cardinals practice squad who are very good at developing WRs as you're seeing with John Brown. He has skill and talent, he just has to learn a team's NFL Playbook and get caught up to speed with everything which is why he's still on a practice squad. 53 man rosters are usually solidified throughout training camp and preseason so Saunders became a victim of that when the Jets let him go.
Idzik might be one of the worst GM's we ever had if we judged him purely on the talent on our rosters his first two years. Too bad the first year he was left Tanny's mess and he drafted DROY Sheldon and Dee who still has a lot of potential.. not to mention Geno who might not be our long term starter but it feels like he's getting better each week. He didn't do the best job he could to give Rex and the team the best chance to succeed this year by holding off on CB signings, but at the same time he kept all options open and gave us the most flexible cap situation in the league starting this offseason. We have nearly $24 million in just roll over money next yearn top of oozes of cap space. It sucks being undermanned this season but we can get the playmakers we need this offseason, Sign the best corner, extend Mo and Kerley, and draft BPA and get more depth without even spending all our cap space this offseason. We'll be a playoff caliber team next season..we're an elite corner and WR from being a playoff caliber team this year. 1-6 is tough to accept as a fan and it's going to be a long season but it definitely feels like we have a plan and we're moving in the right direction. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/new-york-jets-running-backs/ This article might help out anyone who can't understand a rebuild..not saying Idzik's perfect but he's certainly not the worst GM we've ever had. My problems with him is that it's stupid Rex is going to be the fall guy for this year when it was never even about this season. Idzik just should've fired Rex last year if he's going to take the fall this year for going 5-11 with a rebuilding team that has no right doing any better then 1-6 so far when you see the QBs we've played. I think the Idzik/Rex/Marty combo can take us to the promise land one day but we won't have a chance til 2015 and beyond.
Intent on Geno? He is trying to see if Geno has it - you can't give up on a young qb after 1 season, especially when he has never had any weapons. He signed Decker which was a great acquistion - got Babin on the cheap and he has been effective. He didn't sign DRC who has been injured and has no heart. He will have a lot of money and will hopefully sign a few impact players but it is all conjecture right now b/c it isn't free agency yet. As an aside - i wonder where all talk/discussion would be if we didn't have the most ridiculous start to a schedule ever seen this year. If we played the Bills, Fish, Minn, Tenn and was 4-2 how would the season unfold. It's all moot but food for thought.
At this point why sit Geno? Are we really looking to Vick to save the season? Give Geno the season see what happens, if he shows nothing we cut him and move on. That's all you can do, I liked the Geno pick, he was a top 10 draft pick at one time and dropped far, we picked up Kellen Clemens in the 2nd round, no one cried when he was cut.
