I did give him credit but he played good against a bad team that didn't practice to play against him. Look how good Vick looked last week sans turnovers against Buffalo a pretty good defensive team. It disrupts your gameplay when a competent backup QB comes in the game.
I see absolutely nothing to be gained by starting Vick. Nothing. He's 34, almost certainly not in next year's plans, and the season is completely over. I have almost no faith left in Geno, but I'd rather see him than Vick if it's between these two clowns (damn, what pitiful options). At least the guy is young and in theory could show promise.... But I think we already know what he have in him, and that's not much... I don't think anybody is expecting Matt Simms to be the future starter of the Jets, but the guys ahead of him are absolutely morbid. And maybe he is too! But let's find out. Give him time to practice with the first team and really prepare for an NFL start... He's never gotten that chance. Even this week he was called up less than 24 hours before the game. Best case scenario, he turns some heads and could be in the plans for next year in some regard. Worst case scenario, he's atrocious and the Jets have solidified one of the top couple picks
Is Vick going to be our QB next year? No! The season is over. I don't see how it's beneficial for us to have him start. Simms or Geno should start.
For Vick we get to see if he can be the stop gap for next year. For Simms it's the same thing. So I don't think you can go wrong with either guy.
It's easy for fans to say that, our jobs aren't on the line. Rex is going to coach this team like he can win 7 straight games and by some miracle make the playoffs. He obviously doesn't think Matt Simms gives him that chance.
You might be right...... I think if Rex goes this week or next we might see some of Matt Simms but my fear is Rex is canned and Idzik forces the interim to play Geno. That interim would likely be Marty.
The case is he's not very good. We pulled him back out for an injured Vick down two touchdowns in a meaningless game. If we thought he may be the answer he would've stayed in today.
No, I can't stand Geno Smith, he sucks. I just want him to start so the Jets have a "paper trail" to release him in the offseason. We need to find out one way or another with Geno.
Even if you ax Rex now the interim coach (Marty?) will want to pull off as many wins as possible, in the hopes of either (a) getting a chance for the permanent job or (b) impressing those in need of a OC (or whatever) next year. After all, its not just Rex who will be fired unless a miracle occurs; its the entire coaching staff.
Maybe, but frankly I don't really trust the coaching staff to make the right decisions. And it's not about thinking Simms is the answer. It's about trying another option
If Idzik forces the interim (I agree it would be MM) to play Geno, I think the fans and media will make it clear that shit won't be tolerated. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so in this case. I agree with you that Rex will coach for his life now. Sadly, that isn't in the best interests of the Jets future which is why, for the first time, I'm all for him going now.
