That's Rex coaching for his life, not worrying about what's best for the future of the organization. That being said, Rex has proven to have drizzling shits for brains in evaluating and developing offensive talent, so maybe Simms actually brings something to the table despite what Rex thinks?
Plenty of things. What has Matt Simms shown any of you guys to possibly deserve the starting QB position? He's not very good. If he was he wouldve played in college, he would've been drafted, he would've made the 53 this year, he wouldn't had got taken back out today. There's more logic in signing someone else in free agency to finish out this year than to play Simms.
He's the only QB on the roster who hasn't stunk up the joint. Better question is why wouldn't you start him?
I've never been a Simms supporter, but he showed more than our other two QBs today. Who cares, let him start. Vick and Geno aren't the answer. We'll draft a QB this year and will need a) a backup and b) a vet to start for the interim while the rookie learns. Vick won't be here next year, and probably not Simms. So at least let Simms show what he can or can't do for another team. Someone should be able to salvage something from this season.
Simms was brought in by the previous GM and beat out the new GM's 6th round rookie QB who happened to go to a school that the head coach has connections with. I'm not even trying to be a dick when I say this as I'd like to know if I'm missing something, but I'll ask again: what is going to be gained by going forward with Vick? A previous poster mentioned that he's also auditioning to be a potential stopgap in 2015, which I think is the best reason I've heard so far
Which is a good reason it's November the draft is months away we have no clue if our QB of the future is in this years draft and if he is (Mariota) it's not guaranteed we get him. Vick may have to be the stop gap and the only reason someone other than him should start is if he was deserving and Simms is not. He beat out a guy that wouldn't have got drafted if not for Rex and he only made the practice squad let's not get carried away.
How does everyone know he sucks? Maybe he does. Maybe he doesn't. (Based on this staff's checkered history evaluating and developing talent, I definitely don't take the fact he has been on the PS as an indication of anything.) For me it's simple: Your #1 QB sucks... you go to your #2. Your #2 QB sucks... you go to your #3.
Everyone is just assuming. And he very well may. I don't see why you wouldn't start this guy and give him a chance.
