ROFL lam jones and Jerome Barkum? really Junk, you REALLY want to make that argument? REALLY???? C'mon man.
BTW Junc, with better QB play in 09 the Jets beat the Patriots and win the East, the Patriots won 1 more game than the Jets that year.
the Jets split w/ the Pats, the same as we had done w/ Brett Favre against Matt Cassell the year before. The Pats rested players/didn't take game seriously week 17, if they needed to win that game they would have. we would have had to have won at least 2 more games.
Lam was a good depth threat, obviously not the greatest hands but he had some great moments for us those 2 seasons. Barkum was ok and Shuler was beginning to emerge. Gaffney and Jones were solid, Freeman was really good. he had plenty of talent around him along w/ a good OL.
I got to come back to this quote.. Do you really mean to say that McNeil/Harper were better or equal to Thomas Jones, Greene and Washington? Do you really mean that Barkum was equal to or better than Keller? Do you really mean to say that Walker, Lam jones, were better than Cotchery, Edwards? Really? C'mon man.
Yes, it can be said, but do you really want to argue that Sanchez's play and turnovers didn't cost the Jets at least 2 or 3 games in 09?
ROFL, man. I grew up watching those teams and man, you are way out there..Walker was the deep threat on that team. Lam Jones finished his career with 61 games and 138 catches....The man didn't even catch as many as 30 passes until the year before he was out of the league....Barkum? Great blocking tight end, hands were crap...
I don't want to argue it; I just don't get the point of bringing it up other than to perpetuate your weird Sanchez vendetta. We were starting a rookie QB with 16 college starts under his belt. What did you expect? I think the team overachieved if anything. If you are upset about not winning the division in 09, blame Tanny and Rex for not finding and going with a vet to lead this supposed Super Bowl roster to the promise land.
McNeil was the best back on either team and it wasn't close. Leon was hurt and barely played in 2009. Barkum was every bit as good as Keller if not better Walker and Lam were every bit as good as Cotch and Braylon. Walker was best of bunch that year. if 2010 Braylon was there all year and much better and they had Holmes, no comparison w/ that group. Mark cost us the Buf game, the NO game and maybe the NE game. the D cost us the Mia game, Jax game and Atl game. Lam was also a deep threat averaging 16-17 yds per rec.
couldn't win the division in 2008 when the sched was weaker, we had a HOF QB and Brady was out for the year but rookie Mark should have carried us to a div title.
Sanchez - when he had sufficient talent and protection around - did relatively well with Jets. Now, now, now - he has done well for the Eagles in last week's relief performance. News has it that, Eagles have soured on Foles. Unless Sanchez shits the bed, expect him to extend his contract by the end of the season. [If the talent around him is any indicator, he probably won't.] I'm in a way glad that he had a coming out party in this fashion; it remains to be seen whether he can keep up with this good performance. [I would think he will.] Once he does, we will all know I was right about keeping Sanchez for a few more years [1] and that Jets cut the wrong guy [2].
Todd had 30 interceptions in 1980 because the Jets did NOT have an OC. John Idizik (ring a bell ?) and Walt Michaels had a falling out. It had to do with the Matt Robinson situation and a few other items. I'm not sure if Todd called his own plays in 1980 or what but the team stunk (but beat Miami twice, including The Silent Bowl). The Jets hired Walton right away and he gave them 2 good years. He was THE HOT name for a HC job and that's one reason why Leon Hess fired Michaels -- the Jet hierarchy told them it was more important to keep Walton than Michaels. It still stung Walt years later when I spoke to him at a preseason game at The Meadowlands. What's really strange is that Todd, who thrived under Walton, and the entire team, had a bad 1983 even after opening up the season by beating Dan Fouts and SD in SD. Maybe Todd lost faith in Walton after he drafted Ken O'Brien. Regardless, Walton traded Todd after just 1 season of being his HC. I never liked getting rid of Walt Michaels.
The 3rd downs were definitely frustrating but the offense was equally problematic. Schottenheimer is not good and the question becomes how much did he hinder Sanchez even if Sanchez was okay under him. Sanchez may have been better. We are certainly going to find out now if it was ability or coaching that kept him from being better here. If the latter it won't look good for Rex or Schotty.
The O was absolutely part of the problem that night- a huge part. He was good here under Brian, could he have been better? of course but he was good. I think he'll be good in Philly. He'll never be an elite guy but he's a guy you can win big with provided he is surrounded w/ the right pieces.
This is the interesting part of it, for a long time last year Kelly refused to commit to Foles. I recall hearing as late as December of last year that the Eagles were still looking for a QB, then you throw in Foles recent struggles and it could actually be over for him in Philly. Ill say this, if Sanchez is playing well and they are heading to the playoffs, I would not make a QB change if Foles is healthy. I would ride Sanchez into the playoffs because he is one year deal while Foles is still around for another so his evaluation could continue. If Sanchez were to come up big then the decision is made right there for 2015, but right now the Eagles are Super Bowl contenders with Sanchez at the helm. Just to note to the Eagles will be plastered all over everyone's television the rest of the season: Week 10 - MNF Week 11 - Game of the Week in Green Bay Week 13 - Thanksgiving game Week 14 - Game of the week against Seattle Week 15 Sunday Night Football Week 16 Saturday Night Football So all but one of there games is going to be nationally televised.
