You know that Chip Kelly is going to try to put Mark in a position to be successful. So he will go with the plays he feels Mark can handle. Probably with an emphasis on the running game since they have a great Rb in Shady McCoy. IMO based on his Jets career Mark could be an adquate game manager. His only success with the Jets was when they employed the ground and pound. When they went away from it and opened up the passing game he had big time problems. One of our posters mentioned that Mark gets in trouble because he likes to be a gunslinger. This is true. So don't allow him to do it. The more conservative an offense Chip runs with Mark to me the lesser of a chance for failure.
it was opened up in 2010, in 2011 we passed b/c we had too. we couldn't run, we'd fall behind then would throw to catch up. Many games the pass O brought us back only to watch the D give up more pts.
Just one more thing about Mark's game. He's a decent runner and faster than Nick Foles (Mark's best combine speed was. 4.88, Foles was over 5). I thought the Jets didn't take advantage of this and his running yardage stats are under Foles. His highest yards rushing per season was a little over 100 yards. And Nick last year gained about 220. So Chip likes a running Qb and chances are he'll give Mark more of a chance to run with the ball. Maybe even call set running plays for the Qb.
I looked the stats up. Here they are from Pro Football Reference.com: In 2009 the Jets had 393 pass attempts and 607 rushing attempts. In 2010: 525 pass attempts and 534 rushing attempts. In 2011: 547 pass attempts and 443 rushing attempts. So we're both right and wrong. But stats don't always tell the entire story. Based on what I read and watching the games Schotty gave Mark the full reigns as a passing Qb in 2011. That's the way I saw it, anyways.
look up the gamelogs from the 1st half of 2011, see how many games we tried to run early and fell behind only to have to throw.- Dal, Oak, NE(both games), etc... we threw a lot b/c we had to so his #s went up but he had a much worse year than the year before.
IMO Mark is not a full service Qb. He can run a ground and pound. He has to be under strict orders and controls. No gunslinging. I wouldn't allow him to throw inside the red zone. I'd rather take the 3. I know Chip won't do that and the Eagles have good tight ends. So we'll see what happens. Chip won't tolerate the picks and pick 6s the way Rex did. Reportedly that's why Foles might be on the way out. If Mark does it too, both of them might be gone.
Because Schotty's passing game is fucking retarded. (there's a reason QB's rate 10 points lower than their career average when playing in his 'system'
Well he's got Chip Kelly now so that excuse should be retired. As for Schotty if he's so bad how come he stays employed esp after working with a coach killer like Mark. I guess that makes Jeff Fisher retarded, too.
Yes. It does. You may be unaware of the penchant for keeping the old boys club circulating from one city to the next... Schotty was lucky to survive his tenure here, without getting choked out by Pettine.
What has Jeff Fisher won again? The guys only Super Bowl run was off a music city miracle. I do not believe he is that a great of a coach, he just compiles talent which does win games. Honestly though, go back and watch the Jets @ Patriots game in 2011, on MULTIPLE ocasions it was 3rd and 4-6 yards and Schotty had receivers running routes to the sidelines that would only go for 2-3 yards. How is that possible? Not a single receiver crossing the line where the ball needed to get past? We saw this a lot to, and Sanchez is not the only one, Brees, Rivers, Favre, Pennington all went on to have strong seasons the year after Schotty left. Brees - 2006 in New Orleans Rivers - 2007 Pennington - 2008 in Miami Favre - 2009 in Minnesota Of course 2012 Sanchez statiscally was worse because he got Sparano, he was not as bad as everyone made him out to be, but the offense he was working with sucked. His only two weapons: Holmes and Keller, Holmes miss 12 games, Keller played in 8 games but was pretty much hurting the entire time. That left Sanchez with guys like Kerley Stephen Hill and Schillens...... unreal, maybe a #3 reciever at best on the team.....
I think that Jeff is a pretty smart guy. He's not going to hire somebody for one of the two top positions on his coaching staff if he doesn't think the guy knows what he's doing.
Yeah, that would be like the head of a billion dollar enterprise hiring a GM to run it thats a complete fucktard.....oh...wait...
Now I get it. You guys hate Idzik because he cut Mark. Probably the only smart thing he's done since coming here. Now you can start looking over the Eagles coaching staff so you can find a new scapegoat.
No, I hate Idzik, because he's fucking retarded. If you look at his pattern since being here, it's fairly simple. Get rid of guys instead of giving them a fair deal (Slauson,Howard) Cut guys with big numbers due rather than renegotiate. And let's not even get into overpaying for Decker. The Smith pick would have been OK. Had he not tried to catch lightning in a bottle, and force Sanchez out...that move in and of itself was brain-dead. The organization had a lot of capital invested in Sanchez, and given the variety of extraneous circumstances (how green he came out,Schotty,no WR's etc...) it was shitty management. Then there was the way he cut Sanchez, to save face, sitting on him till it was clear he wouldn't immediately land a starting job. Like Sanchez or not, he earned better from the organization, When you put a scumbag at the top of your organization, that's the organization you are. Hell, maybe they could hire Jim Schwartz as HC, and complete the picture. Jets were 40 mil under the cap, Had Slauson, and Howard been retained over the past two years, the OL, would have had exceptional continuity. Had Cro and Sanchez (7 mil combined ...hahahahahahaha) this team would be light years better than it is now.
Its going to look bad when Sanchez goes back into the playoffs and win games, potentially a Super Bowl. If Arizona and Detroit win their divisions, the NFC is for the taking. We could have built around Mark, we didnt. We stripped him while Joe Flacco was given Boldin, given Torrey Smith, given a top run game. Jets could have done the same, we didn't though. We thought he could be Tom Brady and succeed with nothing, sorry but it doesn't work like that, even though you all thought at the time it did when you were all claiming that having an elite qb hides all flaws.....
