Receiver Percy Harvin has caused no problems for the Jets since arriving in October. Coming soon, Percy will be causing a potential dilemma for the franchise.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Harvin won’t take a pay cut to stay with the Jets in 2015, when his contract requires a base salary of $10.5 million. While Harvin likely wouldn’t get that much on the open market (and given that the Jets may offer him more on a reduced deal that anyone else would pay him), playing for another team likely would mean enjoying a better quarterback situation.

Keeping Harvin would have a cost to the Jets beyond the eight-figure salary. If he’s on the roster at the start of the league year, the sixth-round pick the Jets will be sending to the Seahawks for Harvin becomes a fourth-round selection. That term works to Harvin’s benefit as much as it does to Seattle’s, since it forces the Jets to make a decision sooner rather than later.

If the Jets choose to move on, a third trade of Harvin since 2013 becomes possible, but not likely. Perhaps the Jets could be willing to take peanuts for Percy if that means not having to cut him — and in turn to watch him walk to New England and power up the Patriots’ offense in a way that franchise hasn’t seen since Randy Moss was dumped back onto the Vikings for a disastrous three-week reunion in 2010.

If Harvin finds a home with the Patriots, if he performs to his potential, and if he causes no problems, it would be disastrous for the Jets. And possibly for every other NFL franchise.

He is an idiot. He can guarentees himself money, by taking less. He is gambling but appears confident in himself. Might not matter though, he might have to get cut now regardless.

I would much prefer the jets to pay Dez or dt 13 million a year than harvin 10.....

Don't blame the guy for not wanting to take a pay cut. Ask Idzik will he take a pay cut? He hasn't earn his money at all.

If you think Dez is leaving the Cowboys you are crazy.

It's not really just a paycut, he can get more money longterm and secure himself. The contract he in on now, he will get cut eventually, and if he were to get hurt, he would lose out on the guarenteed money he can make right now.

I think it doesn't really matter. We have leverage with him because of 0 guaranteed money, but even if he doesn't want to renegotiate, it's still a good contract for the team right now. The 10 mil isn't too bad because we will have something like 40+ mil in free cap space coming up (and then more will free up once Brick's contract is up), I don't think we are going to spend all that free cap space because we need to keep it both to resign some of our players in the future (e.g. Richardson) and also Idzik probably will want to stay cap flexible if someone else becomes available. So Harvin's 10 mil a year won't cause us to miss out on anyone else in the next few years, but if that ever happens, we can just cut him at any time.

Dez is going to whoever pays him the most. Which the jets can offer if they so choose.

Of course the Cowboys could franchise him but that could cause issues.

Considering idzik won't spend moneu anyway, the 10 million we have to pay harvin really doesn't make a difference currently.

Jerry Jones has history of paying players big money. If Idzik still here he has history of low balling people.

Jets have the most money out there, our money will rollover to.

Cowboys have to decide on muray also who is the lifeline of that team. It's helped romo, it's kept their defense off the field, it's allowed them to control the clock. Letting him go could really backfire on them (I don't believe in paying rbs but the Cowboys survival depends a lot on muray.)

Yep, but idzik has to spend money eventually, it's in the rules, 89% of cap must be spend over 4 years, so he can't just not pay forever.

It's probably true but if harvin breaks a leg, he could cost himself millions upon millions.

It's his choice, he might get cut anyway. I think he believes he will play next year, get cut after next year, then get his guarenteed contract. It's risk and reward.

They don't need a great RB to run behind that good OL. Dez gets sign before Murray. Cowboys have offer Dez a contract but haven't offer Murray anything. That there tells me who they want to keep.

Harvin could be a nice part of the whole, but if we can't restructure, so be it. Keeping him at ten mil is too much for what he is. Right now things are good with him because the offense seems to be all about getting him touches. Decker is the alleged number 1, but the dude has been treated like possession receiver since the trade. There is no way that continues once a real offensive system is installed. I'd love to see us grab MM and keep Harvin at a reduction but if we can't do that. The Jets should take a stab at once of the serviceable QB vets on the market get a proper 1 with Cooper on the outside and let Harvin walk.
