Funny that the "great" head coach was already wearing a Clemson hoodie after getting fired yesterday. That didn't take long. I always knew that Mr. Jet was really Mr. Me, Myself and I.
If anyone does everything "right" then things don't go wrong...Again, GM's know that nothing is guaranteed. "This is BUSINESS, Sonny, nothing is personal!!" Fan pressure was, like, No. 8, on the list of reasons Idzik no longer works here. It was his handling of the offseason, which was abysmal: NO WR in a draft chock full of them--he spends several picks on receivers who contributed NOTHING--the OL he drafted and signed performed putridly for the majority of the season(s); the CB situation--Patterson signing was terrible--the Goodson signing. Wilkerson left in limbo and Kerley?? locked up for years?! There were far more misses than hits. You talk about people not wanting to come to play for the Jets? who wants to have to negotiate with Idzik for a contract?
Great coaches also don't have losing records after 6 years. You may wanna reevaluate your usage of the word great.
he got fired and then flew to florida to watch his kid play whats so wrong with that? should he have stayed in florham park and begged for job back?
he had 2-14 talent every yr except 2 and kept the jets afloat until this yr get the man some players belichick wouldnt have done any better with this roster the problem was the personnel not the coach
dude, "he's gone!! and there's nothing we could do about it..." [from Goodfellas] Idzik did NOTHING to make his employer want to keep him or to show his employer that he deserved to pick a coach. He couldn't even pick a WR in a class of WRs; couldn't sign a CB in a FA class field with several. His employer gave him the F Bomb. Take it up with him.
Are you serious? You want him to go to his son's college game and wear the colors and logo of a team that just fired him as opposed to the colors and logo of his son's college team?
It's funny, the guy who led the jets to their most successful seasons aside from 1969 catches all sorts of hell and a guy who couldn't pick WR out of a FIVE WR draft gets an "incomplete"?!
I don't need one. But the obvious is that a) you lied when you said that he was "close to 1000 yards..." the other day. He was at 740 yards. b) Decker, by himself, really didn't impress consistently. As I said, there were far more misses than hits. that the guy made the obvious picks--and not all the time I might add--is really faint praise.
Did he really? And can you call it a hit when there's really little to no talent evaluation involved and it's just a matter of spending money? It's not like these were guys languishing on another team's bench/PS or roaming the streets like Owusu. Owusu has talent but has a shaky health history which seems to be a prerequisite for Idzik. It would have been harder to not improve from that. I would credit MM who I still believe was our best acquisition in the last 2 years sans Richardson. We needed a coverage FS NOT another in the box SS to add to our impressive collection. Pryor does scream Rex Ryan but a good GM protects a HC from himself and not make that pick. At my job when one of my subordinates or colleagues tells me to do something that might jeopardize my job I don't. If Idzik tells Rex to go for a 4th and 1 at his own 1 and Rex does it, who's the idiot?
The fan and media pressure forced Woody's hand. Of course he'll never admit that, but how does Woody go from supporting Idzik's long term vision to all of a sudden he doesn't think he did a good job? If he liked his long term vision then he should feel confident that Idzik could turn things around. If you're judging the draft in a vacuum then you can say he didn't get any wide receivers. But there will be more years to judge his drafts. Evans could emerge as a contributor maybe even Enunwa. Idzik addressed the CB position he drafted Milliner, and McDougle. Injuries are apart of the game. Patterson could've maintained the fort had he not flamed out, plus he still had guys like Walls and Wilson. Like I said injuries are unfortunate but it's apart of the game. Through the disaster of the secondary we may have found a diamond in the rough in Marcus Williams. So even through the caos there was a positive. Colon and Giamcomini were solid stopgaps while we were developing our young guys. No GM is going to make 100% perfect moves they'll have their misses. Which goes back to my previous point if the new GM does everything "right" and things STILL go left who's to say he won't get fired? Would be have the support of the owner if nothing else? These are things that potential candidates are mulling over and with the way the Jets tossed Idzik that's something they are thinking about.
Holy shit this place has actually gotten dumber since I left. What the hell does this even mean? He was fired as in "you no longer work here." Why the fuck would he wear Jets colors? Wow
Wow, I disagree, but ok. Candidates are mulling--is this my dream job? Probably not. Am I going to take if offered? probably. that said, I thought Woody sounded very lucid during the press conference, in contrast to how your posts are reading, which sound incredibly hysterical. I'm through judging Idzik's work. I'll only revisit it IF we're back here in two years...or less. Or you continually defend him...MOVE ON!!
Yeah, Idzik gets the credit for acquiring decker and harvin. Not sure how you can argue that? Mm is terrible. We completely disagree there. Pryor was a Rex pick, we both agree there.
OMG... So, Idzik gets credit for any player you like and Rex gets the blame for any defensive player chosen?! MM was/is exactly what the Jets needed. He just didn't have the talent to execute it. We weren't there. we don't know. We DO know that Idzik AND Rex no longer are employed for the Jets. So, who cares?
