You're right that footwork isn't limited to the 3-7 step drops, but those drops are something with which Geno has had a lot of problems trying to learn to take snaps from under center so the Jets could run more play action plays. I think the kind of footwork problems that you allude to are common to more mobile QBs who throw more on the move and rely on arm strength, rather than setting and throwing stepping into their throws.
Changes to an offense doesn't have to mean the coordinator. The first thing I would do is review the tape and determine the root cause of our offensive woes. Is it the play calling, execution, personnel...etc.? Then make changes accordingly.
Don't know if I agree with the bold. Geno rarely ran the ball in college and struggles with his drops. Conversely, Cam Newton was labelled a "mobile" QB and doesn't really have the same footwork issues. Even though they both attempt most of their passes out of shotgun, there's a big difference between how Mariota sets his feet to throw the ball when in the pocket vs. Geno.
Geno almost never ran in college, but he moved around a lot, rolled out and threw on the move a good bit. I agree that there's a big difference between Mariotta and Geno when it comes to throwing, footwork, and their play at QB in general.
I can't blame Marty for Geno. I think him and Lee tried their best but were unsuccessful (so far). But like you said the bottom line is the O was stagnant. And the play calling spotty. I can't understand this Marty-love we're hearing.
Based on what you're (so eloquently) saying I guess you don't think Chan is worth a million bucks, then.
Please .....,whoever becomes our OC not another season of Geno. !!!!!!!! You are better off trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear . Lol. We should long know our customer here. Get someone else already!
That's for Woody to decide. It's just funny how Jets fans build people up just to inevitably bring them down. Chan's resume is OK at best. Unless the personnel changes I don't think he's going to come here and perform miracles his magic spread offense.
continuity means quite a bit less now that theres this whole big organizational shift, not to mention the fact that MM isn't so good he was vital to retain anyway. MM wasnt awful but he had poor moments, in particular his insistence in going away from a hot hand and trying highly questionable trick plays. seems like he always got in his own way and his O often sputtered in the red zone. his scheme was passable but his execution was poor. Gailey may not be our savior, but lets not act like keeping things status quo is the better answer.
