Mock Draft: Round 1 Buccaneers - Winston Titans - Williams Jaguars - Gregory Raiders - Cooper Redskins - Fowler Jets - Mariota (as many of you know i was not high on Mariota before the combine, however after watching his footwork from under center at the combine i think he can develop into a NFL QB. My other reasoning for taking Mariota is that the potential is there compared to any stop gap vetern Qb's and the only QB i would want in the 2016 draft is Connor Cook and i hope we do not have a top 5 pick next season. If the titans grab him with the 2nd pick then we grab whichever Fowler, Cooper, or Gregory, whichever one falls out of the top 5 and we sign a FA QB) Round 2 WR - Dorial Green-Beckham - He is a steal in the second round. He can be a true #1 WR and really open things up for Decker and the rest of our offense. I think Bowles can be tough enough to get his head on straight. Round 3 CB - Ifo Ekpre-Olomu - I have said it before on a thread IMO he is the best CB in the draft. There is a risk on him with the Knee injury but Revis recovered without any problems. Look up his highlights and you will fall in love Round 4 Percy Harvin Trade Round 5 OT - Daryl Williams - Athletic guy with great work ethic. He needs to develop. Round 6 FS - Adrian Amos - I watched him play a lot. He has great cover skills and can close on the ball well. He would allow Pryor to do his thing. Round 7 RB - Dee Hart - Worth a 7th round pick for sure. He doesnt have good speed or size or anything that stands out. But watch the film he makes big plays. He plays hard and he is a leader. Also a great pass catcher out of the backfield. Free Agency: We need to focus on our own core players to keep them intact while we have money WR- Percy Harvin - Restructure OT- D'Brickashaw Ferguson - Restructure DE - Muhammad Wilkerson - Lock him up LB- David Harris - Team leader ( i dont want to see him in Buffalo) RB- Bilal Powell - excellent blocker LB - Nick Bellore - great on special teams DE - Leger Douzable NT - Kenrick Ellis LS - Tanner Purdum NT - Damon Harrison WR - Greg Salas S - Jaiquawn Jarrett CB - Antonio Cromartie RB - CJ Spiller OT - Michael Oher OLB - Jason Worilds Offense: QB: Mariota, Smith RB: Spiller, Ivory, Powell, Hart FB: Bohannon WR: Green-Beckham, Decker, Harvin, Kerley, Evans, Salas TE: Amaro, Cumberland, Sudfeld LT: Ferguson, Williams LG: Aboushi, Winters - Position battle C: Mangold, Freeman RG: Giacomini, Winters/Aboushi Giacomini is better suited at Guard let the losing LG battle him RT: Oher, Dozier Defense: DE: Richardson, Douzable NT: Harrison, Ellis DE: Wilkerson, Barnes OLB: Coples, Babin, Enemkpali ILB: Harris, Bellore ILB: Davis OLB: Worilds, Pace, Reilly CB: Cromartie, Millner, McDougle, Olomu Williams, Walls FS - Jarrett, Amos - Bowles is going to try to develop Jarrett into a everyday starter SS - Pryor, Allen Special Teams: K: Folk P: Quigley LS: Purdum KR: Harvin, Kerley I know it is early but after the combine this is where i stand on the offseason. Try not to bash it to bad, just did it for fun.. I could see each and every one of these moves being realistic and good for the team. If this was our roster going into the 2015 season I would have high hopes.
Not horrible. I think its powell or spiller though. I don't see them both being here. also, i think dozier is a guard and wpuld rather see him fight for rg and leave giacomini To compete with oher for rt if we are not signing a sure starter at guard
I am fine with dozier competing for guard but giacomini has no business playing tackle. He has played guard in the past and done well.
Also feel free to give your thoughts on our record or how far you think this team could go next season
Not big on the Oher move and I want more than one vet corner besides Cromartie or a better younger one atleast. A vetQB would be nice as well.
If we look at the entire line as a whole, signing a better guard and leaving giacomini at tackle might pay higher dividends giacomini franklin mangold aboushi/winters/dozier ferguson> Oher giacomini mangold aboushi/winters/dozier ferguson i.m.o.
Sorry, but I dont see the current GM/HC keeping last year''s GM traded Percy Harvin & giving up their own 4th rounder. I dont see IEO lasting until the 3rd round nor Daryl Williams lasting until the 5th round.
I agree that your line looks nicer however I am still thinking about the money side of things too. I don't think franklin is going to be worth what he gets paid.. He is 28 I believe. If he was 25 that would be a different story. We would save a lot of money by going with oher (which is a solid RT i.m.o) By saving that money that would allow us to go get worilds, spiller, cro, an lock up are young guys for years and years to come. As for the harvin thing since we do have a lot of money I say we keep him I do not see anyone in the 4th round that I would take over harvin.. could you imagine what Chan Gailey could do with spiller, harvin, and Mariota.. Oh my God!
yeah they both could be gone. I think Olomu wil be there because of his size and injury. Williams is projected to go late 4-early 5 So its not unlikely he is athletic but he needs a lot of work to start in the NFL
really like a lot of signing our own. Harris, Powell, Bellore, Douzable, Purdum. I'd take them all back, and of course Snacks and Wilk. Draft is also good, namely in getting Mariota. Where i differ most would prob be FA approach. I'd let Harvin walk, and probably wouldn't break the bank on Worilds or Spiller. Instead i'd prefer a much better RT option than Oher (agree on moving Breno inside). Maybe Bulaga. And we have to do more than just Cro in our secondary. Where is the vet QB? those 3 spots need attention in FA. overall, not too far off though. it's always hard mocking entire offseason. so many moving parts.
I don't know if I would be happy but I wouldn't be miserable either, especially with the draft. I would kind of hope to do more in free agency to be honest, especially considering how much cash we should have. Obviously Mo will eat into that amount (and rightfully so) but still should be lots to get a decent vet QB and bring in a vet CB as well, Cro is okay but obviously past his prime. Do we need to get a top of the line CB guy? Maybe not, but we can't rely on what we have.
This would be a downgrade at the OL position. Oher is not very good no matter how many times you watch the movie. He may somehow be better than Colon but Mangold/Brick are another year older and Breno still isn't that great. We need to bring in a legit FA at the OL position. With all the trouble Josh Gordon has had I don't see DGB happening in round 2, especially at pick 37. Just like the tight end from Oregon last year everyone will mock him to their own teams because it's wishful thinking he'll turn it around. I like mostly everything else about this except the secondary. We need to address the FS position. If we sign 2 corners Jarrett will be fine but if we only sign a stop gap in Cromartie someone needs to be signed at FS.
Thanks for the input I see where you are coming from however I would take a risk on DGB in the 2nd round he is an absolute freak. He has the potential to be the next megatron with his size. He is worth the risk all day long due to his abilities. imo
no i would not be happy. this involves us keeping way too much of the same that got us here. I'd also like more seasoned talent at CB. I don't think we can bank on Milliner to step up at this point. He's got to be viewed as a bonus.
Green Beckham wont slip to the 2nd round IMO. Some team in the 15-25 range will take him. So automatically this seems unrealistic to me. But considering I want the Jets to trade 6 to the Eagles 20 and select him with that pick I would def love if he was on the team next year.
many professional mocks have him going early-mid second round.. I think he is in our range. Not saying someone wont take him early. He is clearly top 10 talent
Nope, Franklin is 26, not 28. He is going to get big money, but if you don't sign any other FAs than what you have listed, the Jets won't have spent enough money and will be in trouble with the league, so you'd need to sign Franklin to boost up the amount the percentage they're spending. I agree with others that Oher isn't very good. I'd much rather have Franklin, Carpenter or Boling than Oher, and leave Giacomini at RT. I also wouldn't give up the 4th to keep Harvin. I won't comment on the rounds in which you have players going, because things can change a lot between now and the draft. I think the Jets need to sign a FS. I like Jarrett, but don't think he's good enough to be a starter. Of course, I'd love the Mariota pick, and if he's there at #6, he should be the pick. I love Green-Beckham's talent, but I'm not sure a rookie GM will have the stones to take a chance on him. If he takes him and Bowles is able to mold him and keep him under control, Mac will look like a genius, but if not, Mac could wind up getting fired in 2-3 years. Too risky. There are other very good WRs that should be available in the 2nd round. I'd rather have White, Cooper or Parker, but we can't get both Mariota and one of the first two. Parker could conceivably be there at our pick in the 2nd round, but I doubt it. I like that thought to pick up Brick's replacement, but am not sure if a 5th round LT will ever be adequate, or as another poster pointed out, whether Williams would even make it to the 5th round. I like the Ifo pick as well. I don't know Amos or Hart, so can't speak to them.
I'd be okay with this. I have to think more about DGB, but in this scenario, he's not forced to start immediately, which is a plus. Oher has been terrible in the league, especially of late, so that's a step backwards at RT unless Daryl Williams pans out quickly. And do you think Breno projects well to OG? So overall, the line gets worse. Worilds could be a good signing, but it depends how much he's given. And finally, Ifo would be a nice value in the 3rd, but that's a lot of injury-prone corners on the team. But other than that, this is a solid plan. Only four free agent signings is nice to see; gonna be more dependent on the draft than free agency. Gotta go with Mariota at 6 or trade down for a ransom. Spiller makes sense and keeping Harvin would be fine if he restructures, which might be questionable. I like bringing back Harris, but would like to see another ILB added as depth or perhaps as an heir unless you think Reilly could backup there. I agree that adding two CBs (one via the draft and one on Day 2) is probably necessary. I also like keeping Jarrett around and projecting him as a possible starter at FS. He played pretty well in 2014 even after his Pittsburgh game. Bowles has gotten a lot out of little in Arizona and I'd trust him to play to his players strengths and put them in positions to succeed. Only thing keeping me from voting and saying 'yes' is the way the offensive line looks. Even if Breno can play OG somewhat well, Oher at RT is scary.
