i joined this board before that 2006 draft. remember clearly i wanted Mario Williams as my unrealistic pick, followed by D'brick as my more realistic option. have to admit i was also very intrigued by Jay Cutler (and still not sure if i was right or wrong on that one lol). my first argument on this board was with someone hell bent on drafting Leinart. so glad we didn't go there with the 4th.. the Leinart fans aside tho, it's easier to gain a consensus of opinion when you draft that high. for instance, i think this year most would be happy with Mariota, Cooper or Fowler, whoever is available (Although QB's always bring some level of disagreement). I'm holding out hope we get one of them.......
I desperately wanted Bush. I vaguely remember being pissed that Justin Miller returned a kickoff for a TD to win us a meaningless game late in the season pretty much taking us out of the Bush sweep stakes. Interestingly enough the Jets wanted Bush as well; reports are they were in talks with the Saints about trading up to 2 up until they handed their card.
I always like going through those lists and seeing who the lowest drafted players were that are still in the league: #206 Antoine Bethea #215 Cortland Finnegan Undrafted: Matt Prater Half of the top 20 are still employed, which is pretty damn good considering the shelf life of the average NFL player
Tangini will fuck this up. Probably draft a bust of some sort. They will both be fired by 2013. Someday Brett Favre will QB this team I just know it. So will Jesus, I mean Tim Tebow.. Y'all don't know who he is yet cause he's in 7th grade. Still a virgin tho. I predict we will make a couple runs at the AFC championship but we will have a couple down years after and it won't be until 2016 until we win a SB. But it will all be worth it.
No way in hell Leinart will still be there at #4, but if by some chance he is, we HAVE to take him. We NEED a QB, and we don't get to pick this high very often. It's a golden opportunity to draft our own franchise QB. To hell with future busts like Mario Williams. We'd be insane to pass on Leinart. He's the real deal.
I still kinda think he got a raw deal in the NFL. He had that one game against Chicago on Monday Night Football his rookie year where he looked like the real deal, then he was on the bench behind a Hall of Famer (Warner) ... and then it was like he got blackballed from the league; nobody would give him a real chance to play. He must be a real a-hole behind the scenes.
Yeah I'm not exactly sure what happened. I mean in college he had: Heisman Trophy 2x National Championships 2x First Team All-American 2x Archie Griffin Awards Manning Award Johnny Unitas Award Walter Camp Award Jersey Retired by USC Then proceed to lay an egg in the NFL
It just goes to show you, it really means a lot to be drafting into a good situation. Some of these guys got stuck in arranged marriages that had no chance of working from the get go. Sadly, sometimes the player has more to lose than the team chooses him.
I actually looked this up because of the Leinart situation, which the Mariota thing is sort of reminding me of. Like I just said to Axel, it has to be a match for both sides, or things will deteriorate quickly. Not comparing the players by any means, I'm just comparing the situation. I just have this feeling, Mariota will be there at 6, and the card will come up to the podium....and it's going to be someone else. I also looked this up because a fan on this board said he would buy me my jersey of choice if Leinart was there and the Jets passed him up. He said there was 0% chance that would happen .
