With all this talk about "HAVE" and "HAVENOT" franchises, does anyone know where the Jets rank in revenue?
I don't know if we are top 5, but positively in the top 10. We are definitely a HAVE. With the new stadium, we will HAVE even more.
I beleive that under their current stadium deal they are towards the bottom, but will be near the top if they get this new stadium built as equal partners with the Giants
I don't think we are anywhere near the top. This is not an exact correlation to revenue, but see this link: NFL Team Value The fact that we don't have our own stadium, puts us in the "have not" category. That is a HUGE source of revenue. I'm sure someone more knowledable than me on this will chime in. DbJ
According to Forbes, the Jets are 21st. http://www.forbes.com/lists/2005/30/Revenues_1.html Edit: According to that list, the Jets are 21st in total value, and 23rd in total revenue.
So total revenue doesn't count? I would think it does. The Jets make money off merchandise, which sells very well. They also make money off of advertising on things like "Generation Jets" as well as that new sports network. If other sources beyond ticket sales don't count, then yeah, we must be in the bottom fourth of the league. Our stadium, and I use that term lightly, is fairly old by NFL standards. Who has an older facility than us at this point? There can't be that many teams on that list.
This is rediculous! We have a team in the greatest city in the world and we rank towards the bottom in revenue. Doesn't make sense to me.
The Jets generate revenue through home games at Giants stadium, it's not as if the Tickets are free. The scenerio isn't that the Jets are being screwed in Jersey - they've been given a fair deal by the Giants, and Woody has turned a significant profit in somebody else's backyard.
To put it into perspective, using the Forbes list, we are: $115M below the top team (Redskins) and $19M above the bottom team (Cardinals) Not good. Things will get better with a Stadium, but I doubt that will vault us into the top 10. People starting to understand why Woody wanted the WSS deal? DbJ
Think of this - we just shopped a stadium financing package to the investment banking community with projected revenue assuming the current sharing deal. With the NFL rules changing, and New Jersey waffling on the deal, imagine how steady the Jets and Giants look to money lenders these days. All the more reason for the Jets and Giants to both fight hard for the status quo, or something near it. They're not really "haves," and not really "have nots." They're more like "hope to be's," and that puts them with the "haves."
This means if the new CBA gets done we might acually get some money back with revenue sharing. Before i found out where we stood i was completely against it because i figured we ranked somewhere in the top ten. Now that i see we are in the bottom we might acually benefit.
This attitude sucks (I'm not picking on you...I know many share your view): If it is good for us, I love it....if it is bad for us, I hate it. How about what is good for the sport we love? If they passed a rule that said the Jets automatically get a playoff berth every season is that a good thing? As socialistic as it is, competitive balance and a level playing field are good for the league. Isn't it better to win a championship when everyone is playing with the same constraints? Or would you just prefer to be handed the Lombardi Trophy every season? If you prefer the latter, I know of a dodgeball game with some first graders you might be interested in playing in. DbJ
