Look this draft isn't proven. It's not an A+ yet. And Idzik's drafts which got Bs at the time aren't Fs either. Do you remember a guy named Sheldon Richardson. Well, we hope that Williams is as good as Sheldon and we got him at overall #13. Idzik haters love Mac prematurely and that could change very very quickly in 2015. The same people who profess to love him now, well that love can turn to hate quickly. Esp with fair weather fans like them. Mac spent money whereas Idzik was frugal. Even though he peeled off a few bills during the season to acquire Harvin. Of course even when he did that his haters complained. The money Mac spent was because Idzik was trying to build long term. And re-sign players like Wilk and eventually Richardson. There wasn't so much flair in this Jets draft. Other than Williams no big deal. And he fell to them at 6. Other teams passed on him. btw for Idzik haters he was in the Jags War Room which I think was shown on ESPN on day 1. First time I've seen or heard from him since he was fired by Woody. He's Asst. bean counter in Jax.
Anyone have a list of available free agent guards? I'm wondering if any would take a one year deal like wisneski and be able to start for the jets? In addition to the secondary the Jets added, Dee Milliner should be back. Maybe he'll turn out to be something. At this point we should all be hoping that Geno beats out Fitzpatrick because that means he will have continued to improve.
You've got a point. I will wait until the end of the summer. Let's see if Mac cuts half the draftees like Idzik the fucking moron did.
im hoping fitzpatrick wins the job. geno improving doesnt mean he is a long term option. gping from awful to below average doesnt change much
He had eleven picks and there was no way they were all going to make the team. Half of them were comp picks which are not tradeable. They weren't so bad since 3 other teams picked them up and they were on active rosters. The guy you probably are mostly referring to is Jalen Saunders whose on the Saints. The front runners were screaming about how they should have taken a few other guys. Of course after the fact because a couple of 4th round Wrs had better years. The jury's not out yet on this guy, either. He returned one to the house for NO later in the season. Why they cut him I don't know. He made the team out of training camp and had a car accident. So maybe there were factors behind the scenes. And then he fumbled a return kick and they cut him. They soured on the guy and we don't know the reasons why.
It was just a perfect example of how poorly the team was run. A rookie has 1 fumble and got cut immediately when Geno had like 4 turnovers a GAME and stays on. Idzik lived by the draft and took garbage receivers when last year's draft was stocked with them. Oh wait, I forgot, I will reserve judgement for when Shaq Evans comes back and wins the starting job here LOL. Richardson and MAYBE Amaro are the only picks Idzik drafted that panned out. He played cheap and didn't bring any value to the team. He was a "you get for what you pay for" type of GM.
With the schedule and the offseason moves, if all goes well I can see the Jets making the playoffs as a wild card.
What do you expect for 4th or 5th round receivers. Sometimes they pan out and play above their draft position. Or like Stephen Hill way below their draft position. You forgot Pryor who could end up being pretty good. You can't always judge a player his first season. Same goes for Milliner. Idzik was trying to rebuild the secondary via the draft. As for them cutting Saunders there were obviously off the field reasons that figured in that decision. I'll say it again. After last year's draft experts gave the Jets C+ to a B. Every player drafted last year is currently on an NFL roster. And most of them were on active rosters last season. The majority of the picks were in the higher rounds and many compensatory picks.
Yeah. I agree. A good leader has value. And it also shows loyalty on the part of the team. Its not the be-all-end-all but it's certainly part of the equation. I hope they can improve the 'culture', so to speak.
Dexter McDougle, as early as ROUND 3. Yeah. Dexter Fucking McDougle. Jets could have drafted: Donte Moncrief, WR Martavis Bryant, WR Trai Turner, OG David Yankey, OG And a handful of good QBs still available. [Zach Mettenberger, AJ McCarrron, etc] et al. If the GM starts bombing the draft at as early as ROUND 3, what more do I need to say? Look. Not every draft is the same. Some draft is deeper than the other. Last draft was just that - a very deep draft. Last year's draft featured deep WR class, substantially better QB class and sufficient OL class. And Jets let them pass by. And I am supposed to think Idzik was a good GM? Are you smoking something?
You're saying this after the draft and the 2014 season. Bryant had only 26 receptions (but 8 Tds). Moncrief had 32 receptions. These are not big time receiver numbers. They were both good selections but not home runs. And Saunders (who was drafted as a return guy and ancillary receiver) had good return stats with the Saints including a 99 yard return. The guy is not a bust by any means. McDougle either, he was injured. Actually Trevor Reilly made the team and contributed. Not bad for a 7th round pick. The 2014 draft is an Incomplete. It's not an F even though you want to make it one. Talk to you in a year or 2 about it.
How did McDougle's production measure up to that 'less-than-home-run' production? How about the production of Saunders? How is that George kid doing? Yeah. He's fucking CUT. Yeah - from a team that needed ILB speed. And don't even get me started on the missed OG picks. Jets OGs are STILL mess, thanks to you-know-who.
You're talking the first year of a draft after the fact. When plenty of teams passed on good players who were selected. We can talk ad infinitum about great players not being selected and mediocre ones taken. All teams have done it. Idzik at 13 takes the best player in the 2013 draft and doesn't get a pass on a few 4th rounders. I'll take Sheldon over all those guys. We took Gholston over Gerard Mayo. How do you know that Pryor isn't going to be a good player. Or Milliner. As for George he played on an NFL roster and you're busting balls on 5th round picks.
If you call 4 consecutive non-winning seasons, the last of which ended 4-12, getting things "right," then I'd hate to see what kind of coach you think did things "wrong."
McDougle will be looking for work in the summer of 2016. Taken in 3rd round by brain-dead Idzik and Rex after missing his senior year with injury when most teams had him as free agent at best.
That was exactly what I was thinking but didn't want to queer it. It's time for the NY Jets to redefine themselves. I'm sick of the slap-dick attitude that this team has dealt with the past few years. 4-12 is embarrassing. Now tell me what a great coach Rex Ryan is. As far as I can see, the new FO has done everything right...so far. I know...it's early. I still feel good about what's going on.
Are you 100% sure of that. And how many guys coming off of injuries were drafted this past weekend. He was a 3rd round pick not a 1st rounder. He was projected as around a 5th round pick as I recall. He was a reach, for sure but the Jets org including the coaching staff liked him. He could be a good player down the line and was good before his injury at Maryland and a team leader.
Well, if we filled one of our needs in round one we could have drafted Kendricks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
