Come on, shutdown cornerbacks never win that trophy because they'll never have the numbers to beat out a pass rusher with 20+ sacks or a MLB with close to 200 tackles. When was the last time a corner won DPOY? Charles Woodson, when he was already over the hill but made a bunch of bigplays and scored a few TDs for the Packers? You think he was better than Revis was when he was with us? No way. Great zone corner, but if you match him up 1 on 1 with a skilled receiver he'll get eaten alive. Revis can go 1 on 1 with anybody and shut them down.
He wasn't over the hill yet though. Hell he was still decent last year even. I'll never forget that season though. I talked so much all year to my hardcore gb fan friends about how much of an all time amazing legendary season revis was having, only to see woodson get it instead. I wasn't even happy for him. I was livid.
Well it's the internet, and lots of people get laughter out of it. He isn't going around trashing people with personal insults. I can see how it could be annoying though.
He was great but it makes no sense for somebody who can't cover people man to man to win any type of award over a guy who shuts anybody down. He was a great scheme fit for the Packers, same with Peanut in Chicago, but they just aren't great cover corners. And that's their primary job, they have to cover. It's like handing the OPOY trophy to Michael Vick because of his rushing yards when his primary job should be throwing the ball. Woodson is still solid (at safety), I don't take anything from him, but for him to win the award was pretty much a joke. I could care less about fumble recoveries returned for touchdowns and stuff like that, that doesn't make him a great cover corner. Pro Bowl yes, DPOY heck no.
1. Darrelle Revis 2. Muhammad Wilkerson 3. Sheldon Richardson 4. Brandon Marshall 5. Damon Harrison Honorable mention: Antonio Cromartie, Demario Davis, Brick, Mangold, Eric Decker, David Harris, Quinton Coples.....dang our team is loaded!
While I agree that Revis is #2 at WORST on this list, Mangold is going to be a shoe-in first ballot HoFer as well.
What stopped him from winning it in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014? The Jets are so deep at CB especially if Milliner stays healthy/plays up to his ability if something were to happen to Revis the team would survive. Let's say you're right he's a mortal lock for Canton you 100% sure he'd go in as a Jet? D'Brick protects NYJ QBs blind side he's one of the most important/irreplaceable players on the team.
I don't think Revis is the same player like Rex he's living off 2009-2010. He's here now so he can prove me wrong.
What does it matter? DPOY is not a requirement for HOF, and it's very rare that cornerbacks are awarded DPOY at all. Out of the 15 HOF CBs who played during the era that DPOY was awarded only 3 ever won DPOY, this is a dumb argument First off Milliner hasn't shown that he can even stay healthy long enough to prove what kind of ability he has so assuming he could just step in for Revis is kind of a joke Second off this isn't about the team "surviving" it is about who the top 5 players on the team are Irrelevant, although this question kind of tipped me off about why you are hating on Revis The thread title isn't "most important positions on a football team" it's "current top 5 Jets" and Brick hasn't been that for years
disagree. he may earn a spot in the HOF one day but at this point I'm not sure he has and he certainly isn't a shoe-in first ballot HOFr.
Yeah - we all love Mangold, but it will be tough for him to be a first ballot HOF. Kevin Mawae missed the cut his first time, pretty similar I believe, but I think Mangold has been the better center over the course of his career. We've been blessed to have great centers over the course of the last decade +
