Richardson's attorney may be able to stretch the case out for a year, by pleading not guilty and asking for continuances (assuming the judge goes along). Not sure if the league will wait until the court case is over before it acts, since the failure to report that arrest violates the personal conduct policy. It is possible that the league consequences for Sheldon's most recent transgressions are not realized until 2016 if that is when the court case is wrapped up. On the other hand, if Sheldon cuts a deal on the latest case just to put it behind him, consequences will likely be this year. Additionally, Richardson's attorney may not WANT to stretch the case out, for fear Sheldon screws up AGAIN on bond which will ensure that they throw the book at him for the latest incident and the subsequent screw up. Long story short, a lot depends on Sheldon's attorney, how persuasive s/he is with the prosecutor's office, and how aggressive the prosecutor is and if they desire to make an example out of Sheldon. From what I've read so far, it looks the prosecutor's office cut him in break in the charging decisions, which makes me believe they will be receptive if Sheldon wants to stretch this out and hopefully not get tagged again by the league for this until the 2016 season. I do not think there will be no league consequences for this latest incident, but who knows?
He'll just get a fine. Courts don't generally like to just go after people for no reason and its not serious offenses Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
Really, that would be GREAT news! I've already written him off for this season, since this was on top of a 4 game suspension and Goodell is kicking ass and taking names nowadays, but if he just gets a fine we dodged a major bullet!
he will plea out, no way this goes to court. a deal will be cut, he will do some probation, community service, fines and enter a pre trial program. charges will be dropped in 6 months provided he can stay out of trouble. i am betting roger comes down hard though, tack another 8 games on his weed suspension. depending on appeal, he will be back between week 9 and week 13
Obviously you don't know how courts work. He will get the minimum. They see 100 of the cases a court session, so unless there's some extremely ridiculous circumstance, he'll get a slap on the wrist. I'm def not the clueless one, in the grand scheme of things, other than he's a idiot, this isn't that big a deal. Sent from my VK700 using Tapatalk
He didn't hurt anybody, he's not doing any time for a motor vehicle violation. Not that he isn't stupid as fuck and shouldn't be beaten with reeds, mind you.
People on this board, especially the really dumb ones from nc, like to overreact and play moral king. Was it stupid? Yes. Was it serious? Ehhh probably not. How many of us speed? Obviously there weren't any issue with the gun. And no weed to be found. Resisting arrest was because he attempted to avoid the ticket. Not like he wrestled officers. A 12 year old isn't exactly a small child. I get your point, but I have a 12 yr old nephew who's 5'10, so yeah. Not a small child. Sent from my VK700 using Tapatalk
What happens in court will have little bearing on what happens on the field. The NFL front office and Roger Goodell are afraid of looking weak right now. The suspension on Ray Rice was not enough, the reduction of Hardy's suspension was too much, and the Patriots organization is furious about Brady's 4 game suspension. Goodell has pressure just about from everywhere right now between the players/fans that hate him and Robert Kraft and his pals that have turned on him. He is going to want to make an example out of Sheldon Richardson and suspend him so that the Brady suspension looks more reasonable. I understand the basis of my argument is speculative, but that's my gut feeling right now. In the past players who have received no legal punishments have been punished by the NFL and players that have received legal punishments have not received league punishment. The NFL has been very inconsistent in their punishments, as if they are trying to appease whatever faction hates them the most at the time of the decision.
The NFL will hit him harder than the law. I still think he gets 12 games suspended all together. That's understandable...harsh, but understandable.
I really don't think the NFL will move on this until his court case is resolved. Sheldon's attorney will likely drag it out to spread out the suspension(s). I think assuming no further transgressions he will sit out the 4 games this year, resolve his court case after the season, and then be suspended for the first 4 next year as well. But, hey, I've been wrong before...I actually thought the suspension would make him a little humble and then 2 weeks later he's drag racing at 143 mph. Dip.
They've got to fine him at least an extra 10 grand for the tank top he was wearing in his mugshot. That was one ugly shirt!
I agree with you about the NFL hitting him harder then the law for the simple fact that he already had the suspension yet made another poor decision before his suspension even started. And what about punishment from the Jets, I'm sure they are going to have some type of problem with the fact that they were blindsided by this and not made aware of it by the big moron.
