The cap relief may not have been a part of it, but I remember it being part of the discussion on the Jets site where I was posting at the time. Unfortunately, too many brain cells have died and too many hairs have turned gray since then, and my memory is not so good any more. LOL
Yup you're right, sorry to have mislead. http://thejetsblog.com/nyjets/james-carpenter-to-sign-with-jets/ "When Carpenter has been healthy, he has graded out poorly against the run, but done marginally well against the pass." So hopefully the power man scheme will suit him better.
No problem. We all make mistakes. I make more than my share. Cheers! I'm glad to see you posting. I like getting input from new members and people who have been members a while but don't post that often. IMO it keeps things more interesting and fun.
My views of Geno as a player are entirely separate from my views involving the altercation he was just in. I don't have much faith in any of our QB's to be honest. That's an entirely different issue. You can't combine the two, what he does on the field should have no barring at all to the situation at hand. I don't care if he was an All-Pro or the 32nd ranked QB in the league, the case at hand is that an act of violence was committed at Geno. That's the truth. I'm not pro or anti Geno at the moment, I'm sure as hell not looking for an excuse to get rid of him and it would take a lot more than him getting punched in the face for me to want that. If he is just bad, then let him go next year or keep him as a backup. If he messes up really bad off the field, cut him. Until one of those two things happen, he shouldn't be treated like he was the wrong doer in this situation. IK was the guy who acted with violence. That's my main hangup, I'm reading everyone giving IK ( the guy who acted in violence and broke a man's jaw) a ton of slack, while Geno is getting crucified. It's ridiculous. People need to wake up and lose the biased BS. I don't have to be a fan of Geno's to be objective in this situation. Comparing the Ray Rice situation to Geno is way off the mark by the way.
The majority of posters are not forgiving IK in fact mostly everyone agrees it was the right thing to cut him. Geno is being crucified for letting himself get into this terrible situation, not for getting clocked. The hope and slack many of us were giving Geno to being our QB were squelched the moment the situation was clarified. He hurt himself as well as the team for not using his brain. Frankly as a Jet fan I want to win and win now. Geno, IK or anyone else who hurts our chance to win can be cut or dropped as far as I'm concerned. Geno should press charges but i'm betting he won't. The whole thing is hurting our team. And most of us wish it would just go away. I wish the very best for Geno and and as far IK I don't really care as he no longer is Green and White. JMO
Seems to me you can't ever understand when somebody opinion is different then yours. I will give you credit at least u don't start calling people names when they disagree with you ....like some on here do.
Well said, I haven't had any faith in our Qb since Chad Pennington, and that includes Favre to, its been a real problem for this organization , were always a day late and a dollar short
From my perspective, I'm not crucifying Geno. But my biggest issue with him has always been his football IQ and his leadership quotient. He throws a beautiful ball and is relatively athletic. I just think he's a dumb football player (not ideal for a QB) and is not a born leader. This latest incident does not make me moist on either front. So sue me. _
All this over 600 dollars, both of them handled this situation poorly. There are tons of layers to this story to simply break it down as black and white.
i don't know how much born leadership qualities play into a locker room. unless you can play it doesn't matter what you have to say. to think geno was/is a leader right now is probably off base. he had some positional authority as a qb, which is to say, in the huddle he has command and as professionals, the offense gives him respect as the leader. in the locker room though, i don't know if he should be calling anyone out. now, had his play kept improving, his respect level and leadership probably would have risen also. winning gives credibility. i doubt year 3 payton or brees or even rodgers starting year 1 were the leaders they are now. they didn't have the credibility yet. that being said, this incident does knock him down a few pegs, but if he comes back and wins some games it will be forgotten. as to the football i.q. it certainly looked like he was having trouble seeing things and anticipating plays last year. but his decision making has been complimented alot this summer, so who knows. right now he is the best(best doesn't mean great) chance at getting off the qb carousel. so i am pulling like hell for him till i feel he isn't anymore
You mean in practice? No, not if Fitz is doing fine and winning games. If he is struggling, give Geno a shot. Truly struggling though. Like losing 3 games in a row. Yeah, I love discussing football. I don't mind different views, I just want to see where you are coming from. Defending Geno is tough for me to understand these days.
There are unique individuals who have multiple characteristics. Great athlete. Smart. Leader. There are only a few of them. Rogers. Peyton. Brady. Brees. They have it all. Some guys are great athletes or are smart or are leaders but they don't have all 3. Geno has 1 out of 3. That's not a recipe for consistent winning and yearly SB contention. Just my humble opinion. _
