This poor tackling has to stop. It started almost from the get go in preseason week 1 on the first few plays, then it got fixed for a few weeks and against the Eagles we went right back to whiffing like a dozen times again. DD and Cro have been the two culprits in this mess. With Cro it's to be expected, he's never been any good at it and he plays corner, his job isn't to hit running backs. He's still absolutely terrible at it, that's not an excuse. But I don't know what's going on with DD, I don't remember him being that bad at tackling and bringing guys down. In the past he was sort of decent at it once he got his hands on RB's. Now it seems like he just throws his shoulder at everybody. Did he forget what it means to wrap up?
Too worried about the backside instead of just doing his job, filling the hole and making the tackle. This needs to be corrected or teams are going to run to our weakside or open side praying a lineman doesn't pick him off so the back can beat him with an easy cut. Calvin Pryor is still taking some bad angles as well. This team needs to do some pursuit drills like in youth football
DD has always whiffed at tackling. Maybe it's my perception but a lot of our tackling issues seem to come from trying to decapitate the running back rather than forcing out of bounds or using a good angle to go for a percentage play.
It's something good defenses just don't do, or winners period. You don't miss tackles. Part of why the Cardinals are so good on defense despite not having really elite pass rushers or anything like that is they have this bend but don't break mentality. Sooner or later they're gonna stop you, you can't have 10-20 play drives on offense all the time. They'll give up a 3 yard run, 11 yard pass, 1 yard run, 4 yard pass etc. until you make a mistake. It's not gonna work on every drive but if they turn the ball over once and you haven't scored yet it's a big advantage. With us it's been poor tackling for the last 2 years. I think it can be fixed, the tackling was good the first 2 games and and the couple preseason games before that, but other times it was horrendous. You can't give up bigplays like that with a missed tackle. Can't win games like that unless you have A-Rod to dig you out of that hole each time. With how our offense is set up we have to make sure we don't give up bigplays or easy 3-4 plays per drive touchdowns, Fitz can't catch up with that. How we fix that I don't know. It seems like in theory it's the easiest thing in the world. Just grab the RB or receiver and bring him down. Dawan Landry was an all time great at that for crying out loud, even though it always took him 15 yards until the receiver finally was on the turf.
I think Cro is just afraid of contact, he hates being physical. With DD and Pryor it's more technique. DD either leads with his shoulder pad without wrapping up or he just gets faked out of his shoes when he does attempt to wrap up. His feet it seems always stop and as a RB all you have to do is fake going one direction and then DD freezes and it's too late for him to make a tackle. Which is kind of what happened in the GIF.
everyone in the league is missing tackles right now. they won't let you hit much anymore in TC or practice so early in the year these guys suck ass at tackling. The Jets have actually been one of the better teams tackling by comparison so far in this league, I'd say, although sunday was rough. Cromartie is never going to be a good tackler though. Last year Pryor struggled with his angles to the ball carrier and he looked better weeks 1 & 2 but last week reverted back to his rookie self. hopefully sunday is the odd game and not weeks 1 &2.
I swear, people will complain about anything. We are #1 ranked D with fewest points allowed We are #1 ranked D in takeaways We are #4 ranked total D (yards) I'm sorry, but no defense can be flawless. Do you watch other NFL games other than the Jets? We are better than the vast majority of them. Be happy with what we have.
I agree I have very little concern with this defense. Its a new system and we are still missing our best player off the d-line. If we are still whiffing on tackles week 8 then ill start to be concerned.
Missing tackles is definitely a concern and it better get cleaned up. People are really all over Davis' nuts lately though. Did you know Bowles named him co-defensive player of the game against the Colts w/Revis? I won't pretend like I paid close attention to Davis but considering how well Revis played that game it's impressive to be mentioned in his company for that performance. Maybe he isn't the worst linebacker in the history of the universe after all?
The system has nothing to do with it, everyone tackles well except for these two guys, it doesn't matter what system you put them in. DD could play in this system for the next 20 years and he's not going to figure out how to tackle until he actually improves his tackling. We would be better off with Henderson next to Harris at this point, he can't be any worse.
Demario is below average - it's amazing people are now just seeing this. I guess that Ray Lewis attitude comparison bought him tons of time.
Stephen Hill had good games here, Sanchez had good games here, list goes on and on. Let's not get into that. DD hasn't made any progress in years as far as his tackling, run defense, cover skills are concerned. He lacks some of the basic skills and fundamentals a LB has to have to be a starter in this league. Nobody said he misses every tackle. Nobody said he's horrible 16 out of 16 games. And nobody expects him to be great 16 out of 16 games. He doesn't have to be. Just TACKLE if you are in position, that's not too much to ask for. If you can't do that as a linebacker or safety you shouldn't be on the field or in the league for that matter.
David Harris put his helmet right on the football in the 4th quarter on Sunday while wrapping his guy up at the same time. The coaches should be showing that play over and over again until everybody wants to be the guy who puts his helmet on the football. If Cro keeps playing the way he's been playing put Marcus Williams in. At least Williams is fundamentally sound.
Well, Cro is not bad at it---he does not even try. He thinks he is Deion Sanders. AS for DD, lhas he improved at all in his years here? Not saying he is a bad player, just very inconsistent, and maybe the same guy he was Day One.
We need to show Demario Davis that clip until his eyes start bleeding. He had at least 5 missed tackles on Sunday. It's been really bad - should be interesting to see if Henderson or Lattimore start seeing more snaps.
