Great news that he'll be playing in the opener. That said, no kidding, Schefter. NONE of the starters will be playing in the preseason finale...
He has lead the team in tackles every year since we drafted him .He doesnt have flashy stats but he doesnt need to...hes good at what he does .You dont get it ....but why would you,you dont understand football.
Dailynews and other outlets reporting he only has a bruised shoulder and will be ready for week 1.This could have been a disaster losing him before week 1.Good news
They played Mo-Leo-Mac-Sheldon the whole half. They dominated like that the whole half with some blitzes mixed in. Mac came out for one play on a passing down and Mauldin went to RE. Catapano played OLB just about the whole time too. Just that one play for Mauldin the whole half as far as i could see. The second half they played 3-4 with D. Simon at NT. Mauldin and Catapano at OLB then too btw. Leo is not taking on Snacks' role at NT, imo, if that is why you asked.
It'll be interesting to see how they play it. Leonard Williams looks very very comfortable playing on the inside although he'll wear down very easily if he's consistently in that position on running downs. It's going to be a mix and matching game with the defensive line all year, but Bowles and Kacy Rodgers seem very adamant on getting Big Cat, Wilk and Sheldon on the field together as much as possible. Can't blame him. I imagine teams will try to run at whichever of the three are playing nose tackle on early downs to try to wear them down. It's going to be nice to see the pocket collapsing without the need to be sending 6-7 man blitzes often though, because the combination of the three are going to destroy the pocket. In obvious passing downs, whom ever the fourth defensive lineman is (whether it be Mauldin, Jenkins or one of the other young bucks) will feast on a single block. We also should have the luxury of less tightends and runningbacks burning us in the passing game because they'll absolutely need to max protect against that front. Wilkerson was all over the place, and while he and Richardson flashed early in their careers, Williams has taken over games along the front so far in preseason, and could end up being the best one of them all. Exciting stuff.
Great, thanks. In that 4-3 alignment, who was our our MLBr? I assume it was Harris. If so, did Lee swap out with Harris on passing downs? (before Harris got hurt)? How did Lee get in the game when we were in a 4-3?
They had Catapano as like a strong side OLB and Harris inside with Henderson or Lee on the inside also. Lee played a lot. Henderson was good. The days of watching D. Davis flailing around blindly are over. I think Harris was in all the time but not sure. Sheldon actually stood up several times also, so they were giving different looks but it was a four man front the whole time I'll assume Jenkins goes back to that spot Catapano played. Mauldin was not part of it but for that one play. Revis is Revis and Skrine, Pryor, and Gilchrist looked good. Gilchrist shoulda had an int along with Revis. Burris played a lot too. Milliner was relegated to the second half also with Mauldin. Milliner got turned around for a TD.
