Mangenious and Rex were both given up on too soon (especially Manginous). It will be tough for ANY HC to do well year over year without an avg (or better) QB. Look at the one year with Favre who didn't give a shit about you, me, or anything Jets. If not for a torn bicep we coulda made some noise. Teams were actually afraid of us after dismantling the Cards (NFC SB Reps). Rex was phenomenal his 1st two yrs, b2b AFCCG as a rookie HC with a rookie QB. Never been done before. Then FatherTime drained the swamp and Tanny never hired Rex new gators. I'm rambling, so just give TB more time, more talent. 5 yrs min, good draft pics min.
It's true. Sure, Belicheat saw enough in Brady to think he had some potential and to earn the backup spot, but he never saw a HOF QB. Even with our Jets, similar situations happened with Chad Pennington and Jericho Cotchery. Testaverde kept getting starts over Chad Pennington. Testaverde was awful, but they kept trotting him out there instead of giving Chad a shot. Cotchery languished on the bench under Herm Edwards. for what a season or two? I'm not saying that players just walk onto the field. In fact, I'm saying the exact opposite, that some younger players sit on the bench behind supposedly superior vets (often mediocre vets) and don't get a chance to play early enough. Some players don't shine in practice, but when they get on the playing field, they do.
BWAHAHAHAHA Yeah, Rex was given up on too soon! SMH how freaking clueless and delusional some Jets fans are. Rex was NEVER phenomenal!!!
Rex was good when he had a veteran team, as the proven guys left the roster our horrible drafting caught up to us. I pin most of that on the scouting dept and front office, but Rex definitely had input and should get some blame for the poor drafts. It's a collective responsibility.
I think Bowles' nonchalant attitude has rubbed off on the players and it just seems as if everyone is operating under this very disconnected, unmotivated attitude. We need someone who can adapt their personalities, their personas, and continue to change when the circumstances call for it. There's a valid argument to be made for keeping or getting rid of Bowles at seasons end. Woody must not be happy with what he's seeing on the field, and worse off the terrible media coverage and decreasing attendance figures. If there's one thing we all know its that Woody does not take embarrassment lightly and usually makes drastic changes. Whether that's a good or bad thing is a different debate. I think if Bowles gets canned we need to go after a coordinator with prior HC experience, or Kyle Shanahan. If we are talking even bigger than that then Jim Harbaugh should be brought in to run the whole damn operation and give him a blank check to fix this organization (but let's be real that has a less than 5% chance of happening).
Rex given up on too soon? You are kidding right, this is the guy who had input to get rid of Edwards and Cotchery one year after after paying in their second AFC Championship game and replacing Cotchery with ex Raven Derek Mason, and who thought Santanio Holmes would hustle non stop if being made captain after signing the big contract, how did that work out for us. The same guy who continually played Kyle Wilson when every opposing team went after him on 3rd and 9 and wound up with a first down. Who can forget the Ed Reed pickup, that worked out really well. After ruining Sanchez by getting rid of his reveivers he continually would start him after losing games 6-3. It got so bad they started a kid named McElroy due to the fans wanting to riot. Who can forget Rex's influence on that other great no.1 pick Quinton Couples. I can go on and on,never any timeouts at the end of games, chucking challenge flags and losing the challenge, I'm tired.
No. BB's proteges never work out as HCs. Besides, we've had more than enough freaking DCs become our HC. We need someone with an offensive background. Screw the D! I'm fed up with all the draft picks going to that side of the ball and the DCs never knowing dick about QBs or the offense.
I unfortunately cannot answer that question, even more unfortunate is neither can Bowles. Kotite actually had a few decent seasons before arriving in NY and then somehow turned into the worst HC in NFL history. I'm very afraid of the FO delaying the inevitable and bringing back Bowles for another year, which I'm 100% sure would result in a season like Kotites 1-15 second year.
If they bring Bowles back, it better be with rebuilding in mind. And if THAT is the case, you better get used to Bowles being around for a few more years.
Hard to imagine a worse coached team than the Kotex Jets, but to say this is the worst coached team since then is to ignore an amazing number of 12 men on the field penalties, returners laying down in the endzone, and staring positions assigned to guys who should be in retirement homes..... And I liked Rex.
I think Bowles might keep his job if he is willing to make changes to his CS. If he insist on staying loyal to Rodgers and Gailey I believe he will be fired. The schedule will be a little easier so it will result in more wins, but it might lead to more unreasonable expectations.
