    So true.

This year doesn't make sense. It's one of the worst possibly the worst season I can remember. Such bitter disappointment.

I lived through the Kotite years, and for me, where this team stands today is worse. Mainly because there is so little hope because of this old, broken down roster that's littered with on-field and off-field problems. Their records aren't comparable over the same time frame, but I remember thinking that the Kotite teams had some decent skill positions as well as some younger emerging talent. If you were there you could tell immediately how inept Kotite was. With Bowles, there were some flags of caution last year, but the record glossed over them so they appeared to be rookie HC mistakes that he would learn from.

I just can't envision who the savior is that is going to ride into town and turn this disaster around the way that Parcels did...

Then again, it was hard to envision that Parcels would be coming to the rescue at that point in time.

Kotite was much worse. I'm no Bowles guy, he's a bad coach. But I think nostalgia is warping your perception. This team is bad, Kotite era was putrid. There is some young talent on this team too

Nostalgia has nothing to do a 1996 roster that had Keyshawn, Chrebet, Mo Lewis, Marvin Jones, Adrian Murrell, Richie Anderson, Aaron Glenn, Ray Mickens Victor Green, Hugh Douglas, Marcus Coleman all under the age of 27 and heading into their prime years on it. You would have to be overly optimistic to see anything even remotely close to that core group on this year's team as hope going forward, with or without Bowles coaching it. My point being that this feels like a blowup on both sides of the ball, I never felt that about the talent on the '96 team.

Clearly, Kotite is a much worse coach than Bowles because he HAD talent and only managed to get 1 win out of that group. I chose to address the OP addressing the Kotite era with this Mac/Bowles era and how I felt after year 2.

I was watching the fake spike game the other day. Hadn't watched it since the original broadcast. God what a terrible watermark of this team's history. After that game was like a funk that just permeated the franchise. We got rid of Carroll and Kotite came in, from that game till Parcell's arrival, we lost 32 or 36 games.
As bad as things are right now, I don't think we are NEAR:Y that terrible. Bowles still needs to hit the road though. If I were Woody I would promise Cowher or Gruden the sun and moon. They would laugh in his face though.

you hit the nail right on the head.
if the tuna walked in the door, you would see bodies fly in all directions as players would know it is either put out or get shipped out.
nice guys do not make the playoffs.

    Bah. Is this a question??

I really want to like Todd Bowles. He's just not doing his part in our relationship. I have no doubt that he still cares for me, though. Maybe we could try counseling, or something. Rich Kotite was different. He used to come home after being out all night with the boys and beat me bloody with his car keys still in his hand. I know it was a different era and I may have been too sensitive and needy, but I just can't forgive that.

Eh. I know a sick sort of sadomasochism, I guess. The NFL has been putting up classic games for a few months on YouTube. But for us a lot of those are losses, unfortunately.

Unless Leonard Williams writes a book ripping his coaches and his defensive team mates there is no way we are anywhere near Rich Kotite territory.

Rich Kotite's Jets had the number one overall pick in the NFL (WITHOUT trading up) at the end of each year that he served as head coach. Just let that sink in for a minute or two.

We've already won 4 games. Kinda eliminates the entire premise doesn't it...

sorry guys but we are closer than some of u think......the 94-95-96 roster was a bit better than what we have now, most notably in the secondary.

we'll finish 4-12 this year (i believe we were 3-13 in 95). Next year can still be a cluster fluck IF we don't secure the QB position.

its a hunch or guess but i think the jets go after cutler. i really have no idea how that could turn out.

Ugh. Jil throwing a cold bucket of reality on the thread. As a general rule, I trust your thoughts here over just about all others, but in keeping with the Christmas spirit, you should have the decency to lie to me.

Maybe if he became more assertive it would lead to more confidence in him and it could still work for you two. :)

For me Bowles does not need to come out and get angry, i quite like his calm demeanor. But he needs to be handing those players a storm in the background. Take it to them personally and then if he gets no re-action they get rid. No matter the player.

We might be 4-12. But we have been close in a lot of games. Even with New England. I feel like if we could get 2 players on the O-line and two players in the secondary we could be competing again next year with Petty under center.

I agree -- the 1996 team was 2 years away from The AFC championship game and 1/2 away from getting to the Superbowl.
Yes we didn't have the QB yet, but it is hard to imagine anyone coming in at that position and putting us in that same position in that time frame.

The fact that we went from 1-15 to 9-7 shows that the team had some talent and it was mostly coaching. Kotite was an incompetent buffoon who should have never been hired after getting run out of Philly.
This team may not have as severe deficiency in coaching, even though it is terrible, but it is in much worse shape talent wise.
