Here is what Gil said about Dewayne Robertson today on Sirius:

"I watched the tape of the Jets game and I think that Robertson had one of the best games at DT by ANYONE in the NFL this year. He was awesome"

Later in their weekly review with Lisa Zimmerman he said that very young players like Robertson take a long to develop, but he is really coming on and turning into a terrific player.

In the Zimmerman interview, Robertson said to her that the nose tackle position requires a lot of hand and foot work (2 gap) and that he is getting it. He does not think his size will affect him.

With the DPOtW award, and some of the things we are starting to hear maybe we already have the nose tackle we need on this team.

Eh, I want to see alot more consistency before anyone gets on their knees and services Dewayne.

One game does not a breakout career make.

I like the direction he's going. If he keeps improving like he is, I see good things.

I'd be thrilled if D-Rob can actually play NT.

Like Barlow I need to see more than one good game on a sloppy field before I'm convinced though.

I would love to attribute DRobs success to Mangini, he was nothing untill Mangini came in here and got down and dirty with him and it looks like its paying off

He was solid @ NE no doubt. One game though, let's see some consistency first before we praise him to no ends.

I think this guy deserves some love after the hard time he has had on this site. He is developing into a number four pick in the NFL draft. Lets get behind this guy, he never gripes or sensationalies anything , he just gets on with being a Jet.

Hopefully he can continue to contribute and be a regular in the defensive lineman rotation.

Robertson is short, but he is built like a tree trunk. He is thick throughout. I don't think his size is an issue as much as his over-reliance on his quicks. Once he fully understands the role he should improve greatly.

Dewayne Roberston, Shaun Ellis, and Lamar Woodley (hybrid LB?) would be a nasty d-line.

I watched the game again last night. He was incredible. Its such a hard position to key on sometimes. While we shouldnt be doing cartwheels...Roberston is turning out to be at least a solid player.

Woodley wouldn't/shouldn't see time at 34 DE. He'd be an OLB.

Obviously D-Rob needs to win 16 defensive player of the week awards in a row so Jets fans can see he actually does a great job out there. Seriously, most of the guys in here said he sucked. Even after the Patriots game. Then all of a sudden he wins the defensive player of the week award and all you hear is "wow, great job D-Rob!! You really deserved it! Great game! But it was only one game!! Thank god they moved you to DE!!".

i agree...imo casey hampton of the steelers may be the best 3-4 nt in the league and he is listed as 6-1 325, and dewayne is listed at 6'1 317.....not much of a difference at all....i really believe dewayne is improving greatly this year, week to week, and it is really starting to translate on the field

To be honest, I can't think of any scenario in which I would like to see someone get on their knees and service Dewayne....

Hampton is defenitely bigger than that. He looks more like 335. Robertson on the other hand is nowhere near 320 anymore. That was about 2-3 years ago. During the preseason the announcers mentioned he's down to 300 lbs now.

ehh idk...robertson looks a little bigger than 300 right now, especially if you look at that picture of him and mangini after the game last sunday....and casey hampton, i mean how can you judge the difference of 10 lbs, keep in mind he may be even less than 6'1, and height adds alot of weight

whatever....no point in arguing over 10, 20 or even 30 lbs.....if the guy can play his position correctly, who really cares

edit: my point was that casey hampton is only 6-1, and may be the best 3-4 nt in the league, so size really shouldn't be an issue for dewayne
