http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/story.jsp?story_id=2246 Once again the voters and the HOF show lack of respect to one of the all time great Jet players. Michael Irvin who not only is a scumbag off the field and was an average WR on a very good team get into the semis. Just goes to show you if you have a big mouth people will remember your name. Look at his numbers.... they are average at best. I'd take Keyshawn over Irvin.
The man did rush for 1500+ 3 times, but his career, healthy part of it anyway, was probably too short.
And Jamal Lewis rushed for 2,000, has a Super Bowl ring, and has the single game rushing record, but if he continues at his current pace, he's not going to get in either. Running backs can break down in an instant. The fact that two other running backs came out of nowhere after TD went out and performed better than average really hurts his cause. A very good back like Portis would have broken every rushing record had he stayed in Denver, now he's just going to have a very solid, fringe career in Washington. -X-
I doubt J Klecko ever gets to the hall of fame. Being a convicted Felon dosen't help his chances either.
Portis if he doesn't get hurt would probably end up in the HOF and still might. He's numbers are excellent with Washington and he is a great back. Jamal Lewis has a 4.3 YPC average and 373 playoff yards in 5 games. TD has a 4.6 career YPC average and 1140 yards in 8 playoff games. He has two rings and was the best player on the field in 2 SB's. The guy belongs in the HOF. He was the best back in the league in both 97 and 98 and lead his team to two consecutive SB, one of which they were the prohibitive underdog against GB and he absolutely dominated them.
Was Davis a 5-time consensus first team All-Pro? No. Was Davis one of the top kick returners of all-time? No. Therefore, Davis doesn't get in on "the Gale Sayers rule."
Mr Klecko will get in, in time, hopefully while he is still here to appreciate it, but they are a bit jaded in their nominations, I predict it will take at least, until the year 2018 before Curtis is given the honors... we know he deserves it ...but what if all of the players we like were in (like tamorrow) how many times would you visit? Or do only old folks visit a HOF to sit back and reflect back on the days? Live for today, for it is fleeting in grace... It's all about lifespan baby...if they got no grey don't fray...father time is on their side...they now take control of their destiny in the AFL (After Football League).... Peace
The pro football HOF is by far the hardest to get into. Just as an example, there is exactly one person who has gone in as a Denver Bronco - John Elway. That's from a franchise that has two SB wins, three SB losses, has qualified for the postseason more than half the time in the past 30 years, etc. I would say that if you use the standards of other Halls of Fame, there are a whole lot of players who deserve to be in the pro football HOF and aren't.
I look at the Pro Football Hall of Fame a little differently where longevity is concerned. The average career of a pro football player is something like 4 years. If you were really dominant for four or five years, I think there's a good case for the Hall. I think TD and Klecko both fall into that category...
agreed, he will make it, unfortunate for klecko he was a classy guy and he didn't run his mouth off. Sometimes nice guys have to wait for their shot.
Klecko and the Jets get no respect. It's absolute BS. Klecko is definitely a Hall of Famer, doesn't even come close in these votes. Dan Hampton got in and Klecko was definitely better then Hampton. It's a freakin insult. That being said, Michael Irvin is an All Time Great, he was a great player, he's definitely a Hall of Famer and not in currently because of his off the field problems. He's a definite as is Terrell Davis.
Davis was the best player on a back to back SUPER BOWL CHAMPION. He's an all time great ,,,, a definite Hall of Famer.
Klecko was a pro-bowler at 3 different positions. Nobody in the history of the NFL has ever done that. He was the anchor of the sack exchange, and if the jets would have won a superbowl, klecko would already be in... no doubt in my mind
