I guess it's a good thing that Bowles is a football coach and not a surgeon. Dr. Bowles: " I've got a patient in the OR and his new heart is being medi-vacced as we speak. Boy, I sure hope the surgical nurses, anesthesiologist, and surgical assistants feel like getting here pretty soon."
Oh boy All the snowflakes on this board gonna attack you now... Can't we all just get along? Isn't it great the Jets gave Bowles a chance? He's a local guy with so much skill. I feel so happy that the Jets gave him 3 years to do shit....... What a great feel-good move. (Said no adult ever...) Kotite > Bowles #worthlessbowles
They don't have equal say. Mac controls who plays on the team. Bowles controls what those players do. They are essentially department heads reporting to a manager.
I think this was the case last year, but no more. IMO Mac is now in charge and if Bowles continues his BS I suspect Mac will pull the trigger on him. I essentially agree with you, but IMO "both report to Woody" is in the past.
Please provide the factual evidence that this is true... there has been nothing remotely reported that this has occurred.
It came right from Macc's mouth in an interview. You can look it up if you want to. I heard him say it, and that is good enough for me.
I sure hope so. I could be wrong, but I don't know of any winning teams where the head coach and GM are equals, unless you are the GM and coach.
Well like I mentioned earlier in the thread, if he had responded with something like "I take lateness very seriously and I want to instill an ideology that praises being on time, being professional, etc." then I think a lot of the fan base would see that as a positive sign that Bowles learned from his mistakes of last season. I know in the end that winning cures all and I want the Jets to win. Ultimately, if Bowles wins no one will care nor remember these comments, but if the team blows, people are late, the team quits and gets blown out, these are the kind of comments that dominate the headlines.
So wait are you telling me other teams don't have this problem? That players NEVER show up late on numerous occasions? Give me a break. It's a non story dude. You guys just want to bash Bowles for every little thing he says.
If what you say is true, then every HC, GM and owner in the NFL is a spineless moron and they deserve the shit they get. If that's the case, then I hope the NFL folds, because I'll no longer have one ounce of respect for it. Teams can fine players, they can bench them, and suspend them. If they refuse to do that then they're morons and losers.
Out of all of the problems the NFL has, this one bothers you the most? Most owners are spineless. I mean look at the teams relocating. It's never the owners fault, and the fans they are the ones that pay the price. Concussions, and etc. Coaches are punishing players for being late consistently to meetings.
I didn't say that it bothers me the most, but discipline is at the core of successful, winning football teams. If they don't have discipline, the play will continue to deteriorate, getting sloppier and sloppier until it is unwatchable, and it's getting dangerously close to that now.
Play is already sloppy and has been unwatchable at times ... it's called Thursday Night Football... I think one of the issues is the fact that players don't practice like they used to. Conditioning and such. Gotta take that into account as well.
I agree. I think the latest CBA is a disaster. To get sharp, effective play and get that top football conditioning, players need those two-a-days, and need to hit every day of the week in practice.
Of course other teams have players showing up late, but the successful teams don't tolerate it repeatedly. And other teams aren't the Jets who clearly had a number of key players mailing it in last season. You don't think that "I don't give a shit" attitude didn't have anything to do with Bowles openly tolerating disrespect How many news reports were there about players on the Pats, Steelers, Packers, Falcons, Cowboys, Seahawks being habitually late, or taking punk ass videos in the locker room?
Bowles and the Jets do not tolerate Mo and Sheldon being late. They were punished. I don't know how many times I have said this same exact sentence in this topic. The players that don't give a shit? Revis? Gone. Sheldon will be traded soon. Brandon Marshall and his big mouth was let go. Do you not remember the crazy downfall Antonio Brown got for posting that video? Only to get destroyed a week later by the Pats? You guys are all overreacting and anytime Bowles says anything, the Jets defense force starts bitching [not implying that you are part of that but just sayin, if the shoe fits].
We obviously have two irreconcilable POVs on this. I firmly believe that for whatever reason - Woody? - Bowles did not impose enough discipline, and his most recent comments indicate that he's still following that same approach. Being late once or very infrequently isn't a big deal, but when multiple players do it, it IS a big deal...it sets a tone, and that tone was in evidence last season. If you don't see the correlation< I don't know what to tell you.
They were already punished and habitual offenders will continue to be punished. What he said before is not an issue and I truly believe the majority of you are all overreacting. Hopefully, the lesson is learned and it won't be an issue.
