Hackenberg may never be ready to start, if he doesn't learn how to throw a football. Which is why they brought in McCown to mentor him, and to start if he can't play. Stat for consideration: McCown is 2-20 in his last 22 starts, and the last 2 teams he played for both wound up with the #1 pick. That isn't the type of guy a coach would play to "save his job". The owner just called for a youth movement and hope for the future, playing a young guy benefits Bowles a lot more than a 38 injury prone terrible quarterback. If McCown starts, it's because the young guys aren't good enough, not because Bowles is on a mission for self-preservation.
That's just f'n depressing and I'm the Senior Darksider on this board!! Since everyone except the Owner refuses to acknowledge publically this is a rebuild, I don't see Bowles stepping out of character this year and playing the kids over a $6mil vet. Now it would be Machiavellian for the Jets if indeed, they signed McClown to continue his record of dooming the team he's playing for. If that is the case, hats off to Macc!!! Tanking without Tanking! Genius!! Lastly, how does one learn how to do something by not doing it? How much "mentoring" is required before someone gets the "hang of it" ?
The jets are talking out both sides of there ass. If you say you are basically rebuilding, which is the correct thing to do, what sense does it make to start a journey man QB when you have a young QB on your roster that you need to find out about? Either you go all in and play all the young guys and take your lumps or you try to win as many game as possible. What are they going to do if McCown starts, stays healthy and plays decent for 16 games and we win 5? Not play Hack another year. What's the point. If that happens its another Jet mess. Like firing the GM and keeping the coach and making the new GM keep a coach he hates. Or hiring the coach first and then the GM.
I'd be more worried if he didn't wanna start. We all want Hack or Petty to grab the starting/long term job by the balls...but if they don't earn the job or face legit competition...it's all for nothing.
Exactly. if I want to bang Hurley, I will bang Hurley. If I want to bang a goat I will bang a goat. These white Americans think us Muslims have too high standards when it comes to females. Talking to you @jonnyd
I will be shocked if Mccown is not the starter on opening day---they did not pay him all that money to sit and unless Bowels was told he is safe no matter what , HE WILL START THE VET he always does ! Also Mangini was told he was safe and was fired anyways hopefully if TB was told he was safe he gets shit canned anyways , as many us believe he will. On a side note as I have said before I have a good friend of mine who's son went to Penn State and they hated the Hackenberg pick and say "even in his first year which was a good one he receivers constantly were catching balls that were over their heads or thrown low or not accurate , that made hacks stats look better than HE ACCTUALLY IS " time will tell won't it ,,,,,unless he does not see the field in which case we still get the answer .
Why is everyone discounting Petty the 4th round QB pick and disappointed in a 2nd round QB project not starting? Hack was the 53rd selection of last years draft. A project QB with a 30% chance of making it. He is not a first round pick like Paxton Lynch or Jared Goff where the team missed out on an elite player. All we should care about is one or both of these 2 guys developing into a quality starter over time. Do the Redskins care at this point that RG3, the #2 pick in the 2012 draft busted out? No, because Kirk Cousins their 4th round pick, selected 102 overall, has developed into a quality starter. It would be awesome if Petty (selected #103 overall) does the same. Hack is still only 22 years old and if he isnt ready there is no problem with keeping him in the fold and developing him. He has years to develop. He could hold a clipboard for 3 seasons and start at age 25. This is the year to evaluate Petty. And for those of you who say Petty sucks, you could be right but you have no clue. I dont either and frankly the Jets dont know yet themselves. Last year Petty's stats were: 6 games played, 4 starts: 75/133 (56% completion) for 809 yards, 3 TD's and 7 INT's. Kirk Cousins stats in 2013 (his second year): 5 games played, 3 starts. 81/155 (52% completion) with 4 TD's and 7 INT's. His last game in 2013 was against the Giants and it was a real stinker. 19/49 (39%) 0td's and 2int's. But the Skins didnt cut him. He started 5 games (1-4) the following year and threw 62% completion and more TD's than INT's. His 4th year was when he blossomed, starting all 16 games with a 70% completion percentage 29TD's and 11 Int's. It took 4 years, but something clicked. Doesnt happen for most, but it happened for him. This is not to say that Petty will become Kirk Cousins. All I am saying is the Redskins didnt writeoff their 4th round prospect after he crapped out against the hated Giants. They didnt cut him the next year when he showed marginal improvement but was still subpar. They were patient with him and it payed off. The Jets have been patient with Petty and Hack and should stay the course. These guys both played QB their whole lives and played it at the highest levels through college. They're both smart, high character, with cannon arms and great work effort. I think the odds are good that one of them will develop into a quality starter. The Jets are doing it right for once.
McCown will start, take the hits behind a poor O-Line early in the season, and take the blame for a bad season given the team's slow start. Then Hack can enter the picture with no pressure to produce, behind a hopefully slightly more cohesive O-Line.
You have to remember that Brook! is from Turkey. The big movie there last year was Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
He's a professional football player, of course he wants to win the starting job and keep it. I happen to think that the Jets have other plans, but even if he starts the season, he surely won't be finishing it. In the end, he will most likely act as an overpaid QB coach.
This shouldn't come as any surprise. A team gets 8 home games a year to sell tickets & fill their stadium. No team in major sports is going to come out & admit they are going to suck in hopes for the future. It's just bad business practice. We are an educated fan base...we need to be able to read between the lines. Anyone w. 2 eyes who has followed the team's offseason moves knows they are rebuilding. But they can't show their hand like that. Beyond the ticket/merch driven aspect...what kind of message does that send to the young players you hope to develop? When the Colts "sucked for luck"..did they admit they were doing so.? Of course not. Want further proof? Woody's quote from a few days ago basically begging the fan base for patience might be the most revealing thing he has said since owning the team. It can't be a more politically correct way of indicating a rebuild. Still not convinced? Well just wait for OTA's & early TC when the Jets beat starts honing in the overall talent base in practice...that'll be the final proof we need of how bad this team currently is. Rightly or wrongly..Jet fans are getting their rebuild. We need to stop worrying about the FO buying in..cause this is the closest we are ever gonna get in this market...we need to START worrying that we will be picking/developing the right players from this past draft & the next 2.
He's 2-20 and wants to pick up one more win for his agent..big whoop Between the these 3 stooges at QB We're winning 3 games Jmho
