Based on what we've seen the last 6 weeks I think Chad is playing hurt. Not seriously injured but with a sore shoulder. I think he got hurt in the Jacksonville game when he was stripped of the ball while being sacked in the second quarter. Since then the Jets yards per pass attempt is way down and they have basically stopped rolling Chad out at all. Now he sits in the pocket behind heavy protection on virtually every passing down. This explains the virtual absence of the play-action passes that are such a big part of Chad's repertoire. The velocity on Chad's throws has gone down also and he has tossed up a bunch of moonshots under pressure. The quick hitters that allowed Coles, Cotchery, Dwight and Baker to make yards after the play are basically not happening at all. Receivers get hit right after they catch the ball now and this is a big factor in the Jet's overall YPPA being down so much. I'm not 100% sure on this but all the evidence points towards a recurrence of the problems with Chad's shoulder, similar to the hidden problem at the end of 2004.
Oh great, this again. Whether or not he is in fact injured or just playing like crap, the end result is the same. It's past time the Jets sent him on his way.
Chad has had about a half dozen truly terrible games in his career and 3 of them have been in the last 6 games.
Thank You...(by the way, I agree with just about everything you post) People..this is the NFL...everyone plays hurt ALL the time. If you're suited up, you're good to go...END OF FUCKING STORY
As the Fonz would say, exactamundo. Chad is way too old for the Jets to be waiting around to see if it's just a temporary injury or something permanent (if that's what it is). And they certainly don't owe him anything, since I believe he vested his $6 million in today's game. His performance has to change dramatically over the next 6 weeks for him to be remotely considered the man for 2007.
i rather "waaaaaa" about the above mentioned than waaaaaa put in patrick ramsey waaaaaa put in kellen clemens one sucks and the others a rookie. Chads still the best option.
I'd like to say CHAD IS HURT!!!!! I was at the game and i was watching him in warmups with my binoculars and for some odd reason he couldn't throw the ball to his right with any zip on the ball or accuracy, wats so ever. I thought to myself, hmm you know what its pregame warm-ups, its nothing don't worry about it. So as the game goes on I hope you guys noticed chad was only throwing the ball to his left side. I only recall about 4 balls thrown to the right side. The first one was a screen to the fb hodgins, the second ball was picked by urlacher, the 3rd ball was a flat pass to i think the running back or baker, and the fourth ball was more of an over the middle ball i forget who it was too. Mostly ever ball thrown was to the left side of the field to coles. Chads arm is hurt, if you heard him after the game, the asked him whats wrong with the offense, and he said i really cant put my finger on it, we all know what the problem is and its his arm strength. Chad could not throw one out pattern that was more than 7 yds. And with other teams seeing that they are going to constantly bring 8 guy in the box like chicago did. Mangini knows this too thats why he went for the onside kick. I think he thought that we wouldnt be able to produce anything on offense so why not take a chance. I hate to quote shaun powell but hte jets game plan is to pass the ball to cotchery or coles for 10 yds and hope they turn it into 35yds.
let me just say... the first game i have seen chad play this year was today and that was absolutely horrendous
I think the poster of this thread is right on the money. His zip early on was much better and what is alarming now is the inaccuracy he is now showing when he can not step into the throws due to the rush. Several of the sideline patterns were open but the ball just floated on him because of his footwork. Early on, he was much better with his pocket presence in feeling the rush (never one of his strengths, either). Now he seems even slower with his feet than ever. It's almost like he is bracing to to protect himself from a hit rather then stepping up, shifting, or sliding away from pressure to give him that extra second or two to make a throw. But to me the telltale sign that something is wrong is the change in the play calling. Not ONCE did they ever challenge deep to try and spread the field yesterday. Cleveland game just about the same thing. Play action to go deep has suddenly disappeared from the playbookand with the creativity of this coaching staff there has to be a damn good reason for it disappearing and that is they feel that Chad can't execute it well at this time. I realize Chad gives us the best chance to win each week. Clemmens simply is not ready and at best Ramsey is a major question mark at this point. We will never know during the season because the staff won't disclose this but if we find out at the end of the year that Chad was playing hurt for most of the season than it is time to cut ties with the guy. You can't continue to run an offense with any degree of consistency when you are trying to camoflauge major flaws in the QB's abilities. We are going to hitch the wagon to Chad and see what happens like it or not. Let's hope the running game keeps developing, the O-line keeps improving and these stepped up defensive performances keep coming because Chad simply won't be able to carry this team the rest of the way.
Chad threw deep last week a couple of times to Coles (with mud to plant in). No lack of arm strength. Oh, and speaking of last week, Brady heard the "playing hurts" crap all week after that game. How'd he do yesterday? I know nothing more than anyone here, obviously, but let's not overreact and jump to conclusions. I'll look at this as a bad game vs. #1 D in the NFL, until I'm proven wrong.
Against a quick, reaction-based defense you go with a lot of play-action and hope to catch them napping on a few plays. The Jets basically wrote play-action out of the playbook today. Now given that we know Chad can run the play-action very well there has to be something wrong. Not to mention: the Jets don't really have much else going for them on offense at the moment. It's not like they can go to the power game when they feel like it. Not to mention for the second time: Joey freaking Harrington took it to the vaunted Bears defense over and over two weeks ago IN Chicago. I don't buy the #1 defense argument for a minute. Either the play-calling was timid to the point of silliness or Chad is hurt.
I didn't actually see the Miami-Chicago game, did you? Don't know if the Bears were flat or if Miami won in spite of Harrington. Oh, and about play action. The running game was hit or miss, so that probably had a lot to do with less play action - hard for it to work when they don't respect the run - but I agree somewhat about it not being used, just trying to offer an explanation. Don't know why they didn't take a shot down the field either, but they did last week so the "playing hurt" theory doesn't hold up for me.
of course he is hurt! he is always hurt! all the Chad defenders keep sayin its the play calling.."uh, why arent they throwing the ball deep anymore like in the first few games" BECAUSE CHAD CANT MAKE THE THROWS ANYMORE!!!!! Hackett sucked because he didtn wanna throw it deep...then dinger sucked because he didnt wanna throw the ball downfield...now schott is gonna be the idiot because he stopped throwing downfield? guys, its Chad. how blind can some people be????Please get this guy off the field already.....werent those three floating sideline passes against New England enough for the Chad lovers to see somethigns wrong? have you ever seen any QB ever throw such an odd lookinig pass? its painfully obvious that hes done. PLease get him off the field before he loses all respect and pride.
Twice last week to Coles, both incomplete. Once, the pass was just about perfect and Coles couldn't make the grab (down the sideline at about the 10, if I recall) and the other (end zone) the pass should have been more to the middle of the field. Arm strength wasn't a question last week, both balls were easily 30+ yards in the air. Unless something happened between Monday and yesterday, he's not hurt.
