For those who have been watching the Jets as long as I have (1971), you might remember this. But the run by Bilal Powell today for a TD that was found to be the 2nd longest run from scrimmage in franchise history has an eerie similarity to the actual longest run by former Jets great, Bruce Harper. Powell fell down and continued on his way for that great run today, and I believe it was against the Falcons at Shea Stadium where Harper did the same exact thing, he took the handoff, swept right, fell down, got back up and went all the way for the longest run in franchise history.
Suspicion confirmed, you can see that run at the very tail end of this video: http://www.newyorkjets.com/videos/v...e-Harper/b41d59a9-5b8b-4fd5-9dd8-966082142318
Curtis Martin is my favorite Jet ever but not even #28 could bust off 75+ yard TD's due to being Curtis caught from behind Martin ahhhh but McGuire's 65+ yard TD run was special too. I wonder if we've ever had two 60+ rushing TD's during the same game? I can't recall.
The important thing is Morton has discovered a run can be as good as a pass (and less bad things can happen as Woody Hayes used to say) haha
I do remember that Harper run and ironically was gonna post about it until I saw your post......Harper slipped on a rainy field that was basically the only difference - they even both ran left to right on the tv screen...... I'm sure you also remember the Jets blew a 21-0 lead that day....
Not only do I remember it, I also remember destroying my TV remote that day throwing it against the wall.
Nothing like sitting at Shea watching the Jets blow a 3 touchdown lead Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LaMont Jordan and Curtis didn't do it once? I seem to remember a game where they both ripped off big runs. Or maybe curtis just complied and Jordan mopped up. Too many beers since then.
McGuire's run could have easily been 90+ yards. The point is the team play was great. The CS designed a very nice play. The entire OL opened a gaping hole and McGuire exploited it perfectly. Collective team effort from all levels.....
I mentioned this in the game thread on Sunday. I remember Mick Luckhurst mocking Gastineau's sack dance after he kicked the go ahead field goal
Mick Luckhurst - he went on to present football on Channel 4 in the UK. He was APPALLING at it, especially when they started live broadcasts.
Sport throws up weird stuff like that from time to time, part of the reason I love it. Great memory, by the way!
I remember Curtis Martin's 56 yard run in the snow against the Steelers in 2003. He wasn't fast but he had good balance and he stayed upright while Steeler's defenders were having trouble doing so as they tried to catch him.
