This is it guys. Year #4. Still no QB and back to back 5-11 seasons. He isn't getting another chance. This year either he will bring stability to QB position and show that the trajectory is up or he is gone along with Bowles. He is picking 6th and has tons of money in his disposal. If he fails, he is gone. We know it and he knows it.

What do you think Mac's final act will be knowing this is his last off season as a GM if he doesn't right the ship?

Tell Mac what to do. Maybe he will listen... who knows? ;)

He better not spend like a drunken sailor to save himself with a 9-7 season....

He needs a QB one way or another

It depends on how much leniency the Johnsons have given him and Bowles.
I think there's two options at play:
    1 - Sign Kirk Cousins
2 - Draft the QB they desire which means moving up.

If neither of those options aren't fulfilled, I think they've failed.

Hopefully, his final act is an act of contrition? He should be as sorry as a convicted murderer trying to get parole. The 2016 draft was like flushing every pick down the toilet. The 2015 draft isn't far behind.

He should apologize before he gets shitcanned.

He's gonna try like hell to get Cousins. If he strikes out, he may trade up. I'm hoping that if we have to draft a QB, we won't need to trade up and either rosen or mayfield fall to 6 (probably a pipe dream). Any other scenario would be a failure and both he and Bowles know they have 1 shot to make this right.

This scares me to death. A desperate GM is a dangerous GM. Since he'll be gone if he doesn't hit a home run in this draft, he can swing for the fences with nothing to lose.

Exactly. That’s why I was upset when they extended Mac.

to be fair even though he didn't address the QB position, the 2017 offseason was a great one for him. he shed the team of a ton of money and replaced vets with cheaper options and went from a 5-11 team on the decline with cap issues, to a 5-11 team on the rise with a ton of cap space and extra picks. we are the youngest team and are primed to get better. most of our talent is under 27. if he does as good this year as he did last year we could be a playoff team for 2018 and push for a SB in 2019.

for all the people hating mac and then saying this, just realize drafted a QB that high buys mac easily an extra few years to see how he develops.

Why do I feel we are going to overpay for a guy like Tyler Eifert?

Cousins and Barkley would be a great final act.

Rather Trey Burton. Or someone like Gesicki or Andrews in the Draft. Maybe give Sterling a shot to win the job?

Go after the big FA QB's, or
Retain McCown, grab a 2nd QB outside round 1, with a short term plan to get McCowns replacement.
    Trade up grab Barkley.
Buy, draft, the o-line in order to make it above average either this year or next.
We still need reliable pass catchers at WR and TE.
This would be my idea for fixing the offense, now and for the future.

On defense we still need a quality Pass Rusher, and bring Ealy back to help fill the Wilk void, among others.
    Need help at ILB, OLB.
    CB, CB.
    KR, PR.

We have the money and the picks to finish a lot on my list this year.
What we don't need to do is waste picks in order to gamble on a participant in this year's QB class.
If we do, Mac will lose his job, so will Bowles. 5-11 won't cut it in 2018, unless we add nothing.
There isn't one of the QB's in this class that will play to the level of McCown's 2017 season, in 2018 or 2019. There isn't a Wentz in the bunch, and there sure isn't a FQB like Manning for our future, in this draft.
I say skip this QB class, go FA, or wait for a better QB next year in the draft or FA.
Even if we had to wait until 2019 to find our rookie FQB, that gives more time to see if stability can happen in the coaches offices. Veterans can handle coaching switches a lot better than rookie FQB's that we blew multiple high picks on to get.
To me it's a lot safer for the future of our team and the sake of this rebuild to grab a difference maker. Barkley will produce in any offense, no matter who coaches or the system a coach uses. Unless the JETS find a coach who doesn't run at all.

If we are going to lose picks for a player in this draft, it needs to be someone who can make plays now and in the future for about a decade with no questions. Barkley is that guy.
If we trade up for one of these QB, considering our team's current situation, it will kill the rebuild.
    There is my $0.02.
Let's hear it, but atleast think about what I'm saying before you throw out the popular herd belief of "We need a FQB."

I think the Jets will go all out for Cousins.

If thy land him, it will give Mac some breathing room until the season starts. If they don’t land Cousins, the pressure will be on him to land Rosen, Darnold, or Mayfield.

If we go into this season with Hack and 2 Vet QBs, I am willing to bet that he will be fired at the end of the season.

Simply put, get a fucking QB.

I'm not sure that if Macc fails to get Cousins or one of the top drafted QBs, that he'll definitely be gone. Is that what I personally would want? Yes! But if it were up to me I would've fired both Macc and Bowles, after last season and CERTAINLY would not have extended them Instead, the Johnsons extended them.

My own belief is that if Macc shows he gave it his best shot to sign Cousins, but lost out, and tried his best to trade up to get his FQB, I think he might get a pass from the Johnsons. But if he doesn't make those attempts, and/or doesn't get a potential FQB and instead does another BPA-D, he might lose his job. As afan I sure would appreciate knowing what his overall plan is, and to be able to see if he's making progress on achieving it, but I guess as long as he has the Johnsons believing in him he doesn't need to explain anything to anyone else.

I expect Macc & Bowles to be around for at least another year or two, which is depressing.

i get the theme here but whatever under 27 talent we have is not nearly enough to succeed. excluding QB, this team needs all pro talent on both sides of the ball.

If Mac has to endure another season with another journeyman veteran QB, he may call the billboard company himself.
