First & foremost to get started (on Macc/Bowles/F.O) i respect and appreciate the effort . ©The Re-Signing of McCown as a veteran leader and/or for one year of insurance. ©Kicking the tires on Bridgewater who when was healthy, was making noise as one of the NFL's most accurate young passers we've seen. © Last but not least for the trading of three 2nd round picks in order to move up to 3rd overall. That .To me. Goes to show me that our young GM is looking for an opportunity to strike with a young gun signal caller. A.) Vet insurance (Josh). B.) Low-Risk/High Reward (Teddy). C.) Position to strike (3rd overall). And i feel we should all appreciate that. The hunger for a signal caller. I know i do. Even if it's true that I've always felt that Saquan Barkley is 2018's one absolute can't miss talent... as a Jets fan come draft night I'm putting my pride aside and. I'm willing to gamble & take another chance on drafting a potential franchise signal caller. I just hate to see ppl act as if it's Macc's fault that our franchise hasn't been to the big dance since 69'. Or has not had a Franchise QB since Joe. But then go and complain about having to trade away three 2nd round draft picks. Petty & Hack haven't worked but he's just now arrived within grand scheme of things. It's a process. Football for a newer F.O is a process. I've learned life is a process. But so far Macc has us in position to not only strike in the draft @ 3rd overall but also backed up behind a crazy amount of cap space heading into NEXT offseason as well. So FK those 3 2nd rounders. Give me an OFFENSIVE STUD 3rd overall & enter next years Free Agency (full of potential studs) with our own 1st, other picks (outside of our 2nd) along with crazy cap space yet again ala can now make that back to back off-seasons with Financial Freedom x2. The draft let alone the future is unpredictable or hind sight is always 20/20 and yes I'm a home run homer @ heart but i really do like the position that Macc has this franchise or team in. Position to strike behind top tier cap space in order to make future moves. Sign me up . With that said I'll always believe that DWC's but even I'm tired of looking at my own damn user name. Year after year. Defense this. Defense that. It's stale. I want an offensive juggernaut behind my dream D. I'm ready for this Draft & potential moves like Suh etc. And oh yea did i forget to mention to forget about those 2nd rounders. Because if we strike Gold 3rd overall no one will even remember those picks that never were (kind if like NE's undefeated 18-1 season that never was). Who would "remember"? In closing: Heading into this past college football season, how many of us were all talking up or dreaming of either a Darnold, Barkley, Rosen, Allen and/or Mayfield prospect ending up as a future Jet? I know i was. I think we all were in regards to those 5 prospects. Now my only question is this: Which 2nd rounders would you have rather have had over those 5 in Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Mayfield & Barkley by keeping those #2's? Because before the trade? At 6th overall? lol depending on how the draft broke down we could have easily gotten the shit end of the stick. and missed out on them all. Which wouldn't have been funny. 1.) Darnold (CLE). 2 ) Rosen (NYG). 3.) Allen/Mayfield to a QB needing team with a trade to 3 from Indy (outside of gang green). 4.) Barkley (CLE). 5.) Allen/Mayfield (DEN). 6.) That happened? Then what? Then i guess NYJ might as well trade down or go defense yet again, right? While some of these kids can go on to be stars? No thnx you. So I've forgotten all about those bad luck 2nd rounders (although Maye is a stud). Imo they were used as pawns needed in order to move up for an N.Y king to be born. Thankful for Williams & Adams but I'm sorry being at #6 (again) was not going to cut it back to back to back for 3 years running. Bye bye 2nd rounders. Guess it's time for our scouting dept to earn it's keep by scouting the 'undrafted, underrated, underdogs & over-looked' players to hopefully compete for a roster spot. Enjoy y'all Saturday everyone. Sorry for long winded explanations i just have off from work over the wknd so just been scouting Rosen, Allen, Mayfield & can't get enough of my dude Barkley. We're leaving this draft with one of those kids.
Signal callers are a dime-a-dozen. FQB's are harder to find. Much as I love defense, we need a QB that will grab this team by the balls and will it to succeed. That's why I think Mayfield is the choice. John Elway said he would keep swinging till he found his QB, yet our GM is criticized for the same approach.
Not sure who you’re trying to convince. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a move made by the Jets that the overwhelming majority of TGG supports like this aggressive trade up to 3.
Very hard to find THE QB ,,,I agree but IMO Elway has swung and missed regarding his qb while Mac has swung and missed at Qb , Linebacker, WR and other positions as well as not addressing the OL . I hope he picks the right guy but that remains to be seen
Trading up to 3 was an absolute must given the quality of these QBs and the QB needs of so many teams. I'm so glad Macc pulled the trigger and that we can draft a franchise QB for the first time since forever it seems.
With the 3rd pick, the NY Jets choose: QB A QB B QB C QB D Whichever the Jets pick 2 of the remaining 3 will have decent NFL careers and the 3rd will be a bust. The Jets pick will be the other bust. It's science.
Except Macc didn't keep swinging to get us a QB. He could have gotten either Watson or Mahomes last year. He could have gotten both without trading up or giving up 3 second round picks. So no I will not give him credit for being derelict in his job. He;s in desperate/panic mode right now and that is not good either.
I wonder if Mac tried calling the Giants for the #2 pick, there were rumors for the #1 but what about #2
It's been reported that he inquired about both the #1 and #2. That's why I don't see the Giants trading back. They are going to want a kings ransom, I have to believe they are going QB
Yeah, all of these 1-year deals truly has Mac set up for a big 2019 off-season. This time, the Jets WILL have a franchise QB to attract top name free-agents. Hopefully they have a solid 2018 season too, making top players feel that joining the Jets could put them in position to win in 2019, not just for money purposes.
The trade makes absolutely no sense unless the Giants don't draft a QB. If they do, the Jets just gave up 4 picks that should technically all be potential long term starters, for the third QB.
rarely is the 1st QB off the board, the best in the draft class. ben was the 3rd QB picked, wentz was the 2nd QB picked, last year so far it looks like watson or mahomes (2nd and 3rd QBs picked) will be the best, mariota is better then winston (2nd one picked) but i'm not sold on either one yet, 2014 was a shitty year but teddy was looking good (3rd one picked) bortles wasn't worth the 3rd overall pick and manziel was a bust (2nd one picked) garappolo might be the bets from that class (4th one picked)
Which is exactly my point, this trade cost the Jets 4 picks that should all be impact players on that depleted roster, and does very little to improve their chances over what they were at the 6th pick. The cost for moving up 3 spots was way too high, maybe if there was only one or two QB's i could see it, but after the top two there are really 3-4 that are all pretty much in the same group, the jets could have still gotten any one of them at 6 and still stocked their roster with talent with the other 3 picks. The risk of picking a bust at 3 isn't that differen't than 6 by your own argument, except now, the Jets don't have those other picks.
The move to 3, probably tells me that they really liked 3 Qbs much more then the 4-6 options or we could have stood at 6 and saved pics.
