Julio Jones? An actual elite WR under 30 that we havent had for one more than 1 year since arguably Keyshawn?Naw we dont need any of those..lets just keep fixatig on OL cause its the only thing that matters. When Kearse/Anderson/Hansen all catch 50 balls & split 15 TDs between the 3 of them we’ll show em! Its not that Julio is the be all end all or that we’re a WR away. But im so tired of fans seemingly going out of their way to avoid elite offensive skill as if we have this abudance or scout the position well.Ya know..we can have a good OL & still have legit playmakers right? I would swap firsts, throw in a 4th & either stewart or Kearse. That said i doubt this comes to fruition.
See post on the first page about Sanchez. This is the total wrong way to go about things when you have a potential stud QB going into year 1.
Now this i can get behind. Though i do wanna see his route tree leave junior varsity highschool ball behind. Ahmon Richards,Deebo Samuel,Antonio Johnson & K’neal Harry bare watching as well
Yeah i dont think julio is the right guy at the right time. But my frustration is that if this were a 29 y.o OL we were talking about folks would have a much different opinion. There seems to always be a reason to avoid WR/RB/TE w this fanbase..itd be nice to have a dynamic threat that strikes fear in opponents & is a home run threat on every play. Its been a long time since we had that
I don't think there's many BAD reasons given to avoid those positions though. The one time I will agree is when people say you shouldn't take an RB until the ____ round. Specifically the year of Dalvin Cook. I'm fine with Maye, but I wanted Cook so badly.
Thanks to Idzik, we missed on a few good WR's in 2014. We could've gotten Heath Miller in 2005, but noooooo, Bradway had to trade a 1st rounder for Doug Jolley. As for RB's, I believe that's a position you leave for the draft. Could've gotten Kamara last year. We have a solid but unspectacular WR group right now. The OL and pass rush are bigger concerns IMO.
I'm not a proponent for liquidating assets (draft picks) but why do I get the sense the same people who wouldn't want to trade for Julio are the same who didn't want to trade up to 3rd? This thread wasn't meant to say we are 1 WR away from winning it all...however, I don't believe there is an offensive talent on the roster Darnold can lean on if need be. That's where Julio comes into play.
Good offensive linemen are hard to get these days and with exception of the guard positions, I’d say offensive line is more important than receiver.
The route running can be improved, but I have no concern about him against press coverage cause he's so physical. Also a monster in terms of YAC.
as good as julio is, he's 29 wants a ton of money and we are stacked at WR right now. I wouldn't do this personally. doens't make sense for the jets. makes more sense for a win now team that needs a playmaker at WR like seattle or green bay
Jets would probably need to give up a first for a top 2 receiver in the NFL. I don't think necessarily they will swap picks. Falcons have all of the leverage.
It’s really no coincidence that we haven’t had a dynamic playmaker since the line started going to shit.
I actually think supply of both positions is very similar on a year to year basis. Used to be there was solid OL talent well into RD 4 every draft while WR tended to be feast or famine. WR has gotten alittle better & OL has fallen on hard times due to spread O’s in college. I would agree that pound for pound OL is more important except for a #1 elite dynamic playmaker..those are just as crucial if not more. For my money weve had far more good OL than weve had of the latter. Additionally they are both important. It often seems like fans dont want to emphasize skill bc its somehow a slight at the OL.There have been some good jet teams that had fantastic OLs but were limited on the boundary. Why argue or priorituze an engine over a transmission when you need both?
Who was the dynamic playmaker back then?I dont remember anything close to that except for Rent-a-Marshall. I sure remember 01-04, 2009,2010 when we had good OLs but only decent skill corps or short term rentals.is it no coincudence that despite having great OLs we still didnt win or that folks on here were still poo pooing upgrading The passing game?
Agreed. We still need a lot of this team although I think we are slowly moving in he right direction. Allocating a lot of salary to a star player right now doesn’t make sense unless it’s hard to find position like left tackle or pass rusher. I think with the amount of talent at wide receiver compared to other positions is good at the moment.
