That's fine. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this. He was totally a finesse player, but never really worked on his technique imo. He got by on natural talent/ability alone. I never saw any improvement. I can't stand him.
Guess some don't remembers when Revis got owned by Moss, hurt his hamstring and Cro took over the #1 spot and locked Moss down.
i always thought he was the type of player that relied only on his physical ability. if he played with any smarts he couldve been an all time great. instead he was a slouch
I remember that very clearly, and I remember wondering why in the heck he didn't play like that all the time. Much of the time it was like he was coasting out there and collecting a paycheck. That was the thing that irked me the most. He was probably one of the most physically talented players to ever play CB in the NFL, and with just a little work, he could have been one of the best to ever play the game, but he was either stupid or lazy and didn't work to become great. He definitely had his moments when he played very well, but they were too few and too far between for my liking.
I know that's what coaches do to make themselves more marketable, especially ex players who are trying to become coaches. I just question whether Cro has anything he can teach anyone. IMO he never seemed to learn any real technique, was content to just get by on natural ability.
I agree that Cro wasn't exactly the most technique sound corner, but he was still pretty effective. When it came down to it, I felt pretty comfortable with Cro. Its a shame the Jets didn't have him in 2009 otherwise perhaps they would've beaten the Colts.
EDIT: nice job @jetophile , you beat me to it while I was cut/pasting the video. I remember-throw-it-up-for-grabs TDs vs. Pittsburgh and Chi (Johnny Knox) where Cro couldn't locate the ball. If he's coming in to teach LBs better not bring in Shone Green to serve as a "how not to" tackling dummy. gives great chase at the end....after looking like a "this way please" doorman..(watch the re-play...ouch): .
I never saw any improvement from him in jamming WRs at the line, and I sure never heard/read anything about his working hard. In fact, I heard several things to the contrary. If you're correct about his vision (which I have no reason to doubt since he had to have something going for him to enable him to play as well as he did at times), then I hope that is something he can teach, because I don't think he knows much about technique
Yes it appears that the passage of time has caused some of our posters to remember Cro more fondly than he deserves.
Hes one of my all time favorite jets for what he was..i understand others expected more.He was fun to watch, paired nicely w Revis & frankly i never felt hevwas a bad guy. He was one of the few jets to ever come out and call Out Brady & the cheats for what they are & then back it up on the field. That counts for a whole helluva lot w me
I loved how he hated that cheating fack Br*dy. He saw him for what he is. Some guys are so focused on the negativity, they forget how bad the position was directly before and directly after Cro, and what Cro was able to bring to the table in coverage. On a side note, Derrick Jones has a lot of Cro characteristics. Really long and rangy with just ridiculous athleticism and leaping ability. Just needs to get more seasoned at CB. Let's hope he can continue this progression
i also remember when Cro got owned by Dez Bryant on primetime tv. for every good moment he had with the Jets he had 5 terrible moments that could have been avoided. he is a stupid man. now he is coaching for our linebackers.
False, he is an intern working with and learning from our lb coach. Some of you are making this more than it really is
For once I wasn't late to the party. Cromartie was an incredible athlete and had great speed, he just never much was for making a tackle. That Chargers game, I was beside myself. I looked over and there I was sitting beside me. This is one prediction I'll always be infinitely proud of, and it's my only 100% on the mark prediction that I've ever made (I'm either pretty close or wildly wrong, mostly just because I want the Jets to win). I made it on another board. Now people never believe you when you say stuff like this, but I swear on the grave of my parents this is true (all of my stories are true): "Nate Kaeding will miss three field goals. The Jets will win by 3 points." All I said for a week straight was kiss my ring, even if I was buying a cup of coffee at the convenience store. "That's 99 cents." "Thanks. Have a good one. Kiss my ring." I was even doing it at work: "This is Jxxxx, kiss my ring, how may I help you?" EDIT & P.S.: Now ain't these some purty pictures.
this^ i think the main issue is he was good due to his freakish physical abilities that can't be taught because his technique sucked. He got by on his size and speed but he was a weak tackler with poor technique in coverage so not much he could teach people really. Revis would be a much better teacher. Cro was way more athletically gifted then revis but revis had a much better football mind, was much tougher, and had flawless technique. you can't teach players to be 6-3 and run a sub 4.4 40 and have long arms.
it was because cro was one of maybe 3-4 CBs in the NFL who could match the size and speed of moss. moss was never much of a route runner he was a tall speedy WR with amazing hands. Cro got owned by smaller good route running WRs matchups are funny like that
I understand that, and sorry, didn't mean to bash one of your favorite Jets. I don't think that he was a bad person or player, just wasn't driven to be the best he could be, and was frustrated that he seemed willing to settle for whatever. For the most part, he was a good 2nd CB to Revis.
