You see those kind of throws form most QB's. Pennington isn't a perfect QB but he can execute a gameplan and lead us to victory any time out. I have been confident every game this year because we have Pennington at QB leading us. The point is that every QB has throws where you are wondering what they are doing. Hell, Peyton had two interceptions against Tennessee.
Gentlemen, Lets look at this realistically, Does Chad have a rag arm? Yes, he does. Do the Jets tend to win more games when he starts, and plays the full game, as to when he doesn't? Yes, they do. While I don't view him as a QB the could take the whole team on his shoulders and win multiple games; I do view him as the type of QB that, with the right people around him, will not make mistakes that will cost you a Championship. Don't forget that this is the O's first year with this offense. Mistakes will happen, but a lot fewer than I expected going into this season.
i thought the same thing.. this place is way too negative... i wonder what would happen if we ever won a superbowl with pennington.. would these people finally admit that he is a good QB.. probably not
Meh. If you turned the clock back to 2001, you could take all these posts and substitute "Chad" with "Vinny" and "Kellen" with "Chad" and there would be no difference at all.
The only reason Pennington has critics is precisely because he's had major trouble showing the consistency and ability against a good team to get to that point. If he DID manage that, obviously the doubts would be laid to rest, so there wouldn't be criticism. What you fail to take into account is that the facts generally show rather poor play against good defenses. We've obviously seen the reverse is not true. No matter how many bad games Chad has, Chadinettes will refuse to admit he isn't playing well. Prior to today's game, Chad was the 33rd ranked QB in the league for the previous 6 games. That isn't a bad game here or there, that's a bad STRETCH. I have yet to see the Chadinettes point to 6 consecutive GOOD games, or a consistent level of play even against good teams. Instead, when confronted with an argument that Chad generally doesn't play well against good defenses, Chadinettes immediately shift the scope, and either point to specific isolated instances if they can find one, or make excuses. The ridiculous homerism and knee-jerk reactions by Chadinettes are stunning. I get the feeling that Chadinettes probably lose a lot of money in poker too, and justify being a great player by point to one good beat.
I'm not going to try and say that Pennington played well overall in that 6 game stretch, but I think your comment was misleading. It's not like over the last 6 games (before today), he played poorly in each game. In my opinion, he had 2 horrible games (@CLE, CHI), 2 good games (MIA, HOU), and 2 above average games (DET, @NE). I don't doubt that he needs to be more consistant, or improve his play against the better defenses, but it's not like he's been horrible. If you were to define his games in a black-white concept, putting them in either "good" or "bad" categories, I think there would be more good, including two against New England.
He played excellent in the first half and iced the game early. If Pennington just plays like that we win 10 games this year and make the playoffs. There are plenty of QB's who are lossing games for their teams on a regular basis. This schedule is like a wet dream for Chad and to his credit, he's producing, something many QB's with a lot more talent aren't doing.
Were there a few bad throws today, picks and throws that should've been picks? Yes. Point to a single game today where a QB didn't make a few poor throws. Our offense scored 38 points! Many after long drives. Are you guys kidding me with this criticism??
Here we go again, he doesn't get credit for beating bad D's but he gets the blame when he struggles against top D's and he has BEATEN both Miami and Buf- those don't count only the 2 games we have left w/ them? come on. You are right, Chad was brutal out there yesterday. How we won w/ him as our QB I'll never know. Great job by the team picking up the slack from a horrid performance by Chad The first 12 were meaningless, these next 2 games will decide Chad's future. We'd have about 3 wins w/o Chad right now but it's up to his performance in the next 2 games to decie his fate. How long have you watched the NFL?
You think we are in this position without Chad anyone?? Jeez this is unbelievable..Okay Tom Brady and Payton Manning have contracts..Chad is OUR guy..F**k.. he rang up 38 beans yesterday what the hell is the problem?? Good team, Bad Team ..this is the NFL, every week any team can beat you..go ask Indy it thats true
Yes he had an excellent first half yesterday and an excellent second half against Houston last week. His accuracy in particular has been much improved the last 2 games. That being said, many of the throws he made today simply aren't possible against a better defense. We'll see if he's got a little better handle on his limitations then he did earlier in the season. I think where he gets in trouble is when he tries to make those thread the needle mid range dunk passes against a defense that doesn't suck. And to his credit he did make a few nice passes yesterday hitting WRs in stride and allowing them to run with the ball, something we haven't seen in awhile.
....you're the type of person, that wins the lotto and then is miserable that they have to pay taxes on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .....Chad and the Jets are doing better than expected.....enjoy it!!!!!!
I understand that, and have even said as much. Against faster, more aggressive defenses (like the ones the Jets will face in the playoffs, should they make it), he doesn't fair as well. However, at this point, he definitely gives this team the best chance to win. The players who need to step up the most are the wide receivers, which they did yesterday. It was a clinic in route running. If Coles/Cotch can run routes like that, then Chad WILL get them the ball.
Yeah I agree completely. He still makes some bad throws decisions. But he also led us to have the game over before halftime. Then looked avg at best second half. And the thing is you dont put Clemens in. like said, but Penny is under the microscope to see if we can actually say he should be the QB for the future. even in wins theres bad things, so basically I'm saying, dont worry. I saw it too.
I think that anyone who seriously wants to start Clemens at this point should take a long look at the Broncos game last night. Jay Cutler got his first start against a decent defense, and looked awful for 80% of the game. Does anyone here really think that Clemens would be better? Like him or not, Pennington is our best chance to win "right now". Mangini was right when he said that, he was being too honest. Let's finish the season and let Clemens and Pennington battle it out next year.
It's called doing his job. He takes the blame when he doesn't get the job done. Pretty simple concept. It's amazing to me that you can carry on concurrent contradictory arguments. You say I'm only interested in "fantasy numbers" yet you're ready to crown Chad after a couple good games against the Texans and the Packers. They're not meaningless but Chad has not played well overall this season and needs to finish up strong to have any possibility of being back next year. I've softened my stance a bit and am willing to give him another shot if his play remains good over the last 4 games.
This is a great post, finally someone get it ... Finally someone with a true understanding of football. The only obvious decision at this point is to make a switch at QB. Here's why ... 1) Kellen Clemens is younger vs. Chad Pennington is older - Point Clemens 2) kellen Clemens has a stonger arm than Chad and thus will, without doubt be a better passer than Chad - Point Clemens 3) Kellen Clemens has never lost an NFL game, Chad has lost a bunch - Point Clemens 4) Kellen Clemens has untapped potential that could take us to the Super Bowl, whereas we know what we get with Chad Pennington when he stays healthy, just a lousy playoff spot. 5) Kellen Clemens is not Chad Pennington, Point Kellen Clemens Try to argue with that.
Jeez, Watch the game, enjoy life, scream at the t.v, See Chad pick Green Bay apart. Man after the game I was happy as hell, my belly full of beer and I can't wait till monday to go on Gang Green and read all the good stuff about the game and then I read all this crap how Chad was not perfect, noodle arm, yadda, yadda, yadda. Before the season the predictions were we will win maybe three maybe four games. Hell, we have won seven and the football experts are still ripping Chad apart. Now we might even make the playoffs. Go Chad go. Allentown Ernie.
