I was calling for Kellen Clemens after Chad's 1st INT just because the game was so out of reach and not to risk an injury.

But Chad has done well, yes he's had his horrible performances, but he's played solid.

He has to be the QB now, their is no question about it. This thread topic puzzles me to say the least.

You can say whatever you want about Chad. But look at the QBs the Jets are facing for the remainder of the season: JP Losman, Joey Harrington, Brad Johnson (who may be benched for Brooks Bollinger), and Aaron Brooks. Compared to those shlubbs, Chad is a superstar.

Anyone asking to bring in Clemens at this point is silly. You can not bring in a rookie in the middle of a playoff race. Did any of you see how the Golden Boy Jay Cutler did last night?

Losman and Pennington have had comparable seasons. Chad has been more up and down with more bad games and better good games while Losman has just been pretty much mediocre all season long.

I think Clemens is our future. Every game he sits this season increases his chance of being the franchise QB we need in a couple of years. Look at Rivers. Our QB situation is as good as it could possibly be right now. Yes, Chad needs to make better decisions, but the Jets offense simply could not have been better than it was in the first half last week. Pennington was awesome.

Are you really implying that the Jets would be equally well off with Losman behind center? Gimme a break.

3rdAnd15Draw hates the New York Jets Starting QB Chad Pennington. We get it. All I know is you can expect a HUGE thread of all your negative CRAP posts after we are in the playoffs this year. Then what are you going to say? I am sure you will think of something negative. No matter. I absolutely LOVE where we are right now. New head coach, new D. coach, new O coach, two rookies starting on the O-line and we actually have hope for the post season this year. This year has already been WAY beyond what I was expecting. And let me just say that Chad Pennington has had a LOT to do with that. No other QB on the roster could have even come close.

You my friend are NOT a jet fan as far as I am concerned. You are a troll. Trolling for bad vibes. Clemans looked like CRAP in pre-season. He is lucky he didnt get the football lodged up his bung hole that last series he played. If you have nothing good to say about the AMAZING season the Jets are having this supposed re-building year and how AMAZING the future looks for the Jets then do us all a favor and SHUT IT!

    Sincerely,

A real fan through thick and thin.

at this point, i think it's beyond coincidence that Chad posts good games/numbers against weaker Defenses and gets trumped by elite Defenses, yet junc (and others) consider this ragging on Chad when that's not the case, rather clearly pointing out the trend. take a look at his stats over the past several years against top Defenses in big games (both regular season & Playoffs). coincidence that he plays poorly against them?

i credit the original poster for at least staying consistent with his opinion.

but like some people have said: the next few weeks are not only big games, but also games against good Defenses. let's see if Chad plays well and if not... oh yeah, it's just a coincidence.

    cheers

You have to qualify those rankings, the number of yards a team has given up isn't their "defensive ranking". For example the Vikings have given up the fewest rushing yards in the NFL and are holding opponents to an astonishing 2.8 YPC while their pass defense is decidedly mediocre. NE is another example, they rank 3rd in rushing yards and YPC with a mediocre pass D.

Ummm, can't you say that about every QB in the league not named Peyton Manning? How many QBs have had great numbers against the Bears D, for example? I don't know, I don't have the time or patience to search for obscure stats, I'm asking.

Elite Ds are "elite" because they keep offense's numbers down, yes?

That seems to be eluding most people here. And I guess Bellichick's NE defense is not elite.

Ranked in total yardage, Chad will light up the Vikes secondary because Schottenheimer will have watched the Pats Vikes game and everybody runs on Oakland

NE hasn't had an elite passing defense since 03. It's not as bad this year as it was last year when they were one of the worst in the NFL but it is still pretty mediocre.

Yeah, I'm sort of amazed at the criticism of Chad. We all know he's not a HOF QB or anything, but it's laughable to want to replace him.

Calling for an unheralded, unproven rookie? This is so stupid.
I understand the backup QB is always the most popluar player, but this is getting silly.

QBs that have played in the Super Bowl off the top of my head:

Dilfer, Williams, Hostletler, O'Donnell, Humphries, Chandler....oh, and there are a lot more not named Elway or Montana.

So if you sort them by pass defense, Chad is 2-3 vs top 10 Pass Ds..
    CHI, INDY, MIA, JAX, BUF

And he still has 3 games left vs top 10 Ds..

Indy is not a top 10 pass D. They haven't given up all that many passing yards because their run D is so bad. Buffalo is right on the edge they could go either way. I'd put Cleveland on the bubble as well. So depending on your POV either 1-2, 2-2 or 2-3.

And yes he's got some games coming up against some defenses that look rough, that's why he's really got to play well down the stretch.
