It's unfortunate that Schlegal had to be highlighted with both of these negatives just at a time when he's desperately trying to showcase himself as a player worth keeping. Hopefully Westhoff and Mangini put these plays behind them (and let HIM put these plays behind him) and continue to allow him to play. I'm not ready to give up on Schlegal. If he's guilty of anything, it's trying too hard (which, by Mangini's own definition, is a good thing).

I don't see anyone really getting on Schlegel here for the on sides kick. It was a bang-bang play.... and while Westoff was talking to him, it wasn't until the clipping call that Westoff got pissed. That play cost something like 30 yards or more in field postion. Westoff is always preaching and coaching about what to do, and what not to do when you have your back facing the opponent's goal line. At TC you can see him screaming at players who get themselves into that position. "Keep your head between the player and the goal post!"

That's why he was so po'd. Making a mental mistake on something that is harped on in practice all the time will always get a coach's ire up. It will be interesting to see if Schlegel gets activated this week.

I really enjoyed going to TC the last two years, T-Bird, and meeting you there was a real kick. I remember getting Westhoff's signature on my ball like it was yesterday. I was walking back from The Netherlands and Westy came along on his bike. He stopped and talked to me and he's really a very nice guy.

But yeah, he's a screamer and a hard worker and I am overjoyed that Tangini kept him.... he's a real winner.
