Brook ..I am sure all the Turks understand what autocratic rulers are...add the Johnsons to that list
Kurt we all know how animals/pets are upgrades from humans in so many ways heh So sorry for your loss..any dog named Namath had to be a winner!!
Lost my cat last year so I feel your pain. Had him since he was a kitten and he died at 22yrs old. Losing a family member is never easy or pain free. He'll be waiting for you on the Rainbow Bridge my friend.. Oh yeah, Fck the Patriots. Make the Refs' arms hurt from throwing the flag 100 times. Set a fckn record since the Refs want to give Brady the game anyway.
Myers struggling with a hip injury, all gone wrong for him since being named to the Pro Bowl, typical Jets and apparently we have placed Tomlinson on IR and signed up Walford as a replacement, he was a little unlucky not to get a chance after his preseason form tbh.
Here are the most likely scenarios for both teams with each outcome Patriots win: Jets: obtain 3rd pick in NFL draft (decent chance of moving up to #2) Patriots: obtain #2 seed in AFC playoffs. Get first round bye then will host divisional game (impossible to tell who they will play at the moment) Jets win: Jets: obtain 4th pick in NFL draft (small chance of picking 5th) Patriots: fall to #4 seed in AFC playoffs. Will host LAC in round 1 then travel to KC for divisional playoffs. Brady has never made the SB without a first round bye. We can turn the AFC on its head by winning this game.
We can help ourselves for the next 10 years(possibly) by losing this game. Short term game or long-term planning?
The difference of 1 draft spot is inconsequential to me here. If it was 1 vs 2, then it would mean losing out on Bosa. But at 3 vs 4, I’m all for stepping on the Patriots’ throat.
1-5 is the current possibilities and that is a big difference a meaningless end of season win against the cheats will not make me feel good if we end up at 5, that difference is huge, we could trade back to 5 and gain much needed picks all over the place, I'd rather not throw that chance away. Don't get me wrong I won't be cheering the defeat in the game thread, never do but the sensible part of the brain only operates on non-match days lol
It’s highly unlikely that the Jets get the #1 pick, and #5 also seems improbable In all likelihood the Jets will pick 3rd with a loss and 4th with a win. If they needed a QB, I’d consider the ramifications of that in my rooting interests. But I don’t think 3 vs 4 is a huge deal here. I honestly think that Sam winning in NE, building momentum for 2019, impressing HC candidates and giving the team belief that they’re ready to knock off NE are well worth falling 1 draft spot.
Hmmm, we beat the Dolphins in Rex's final game. The players played for him as I think they will for Bowles. At the time, I rooted for the Jets to beat the Dolphins because I hate the Dolphins, and also because I wanted Rex to go out with a win. I've since come to admit that winning that game damaged us in the long run draft-wise. In this case, despite the slight drop in draft position, beating the Pats on their field in a game they need with our longterm future QB leading the way is worth it. I think we have a shot to pull it off. Surprise! I'm rooting for the Jets this week.
I think just about everyone would agree that #3 versus #4 is not worth getting worked up about. It's the realistic #2 versus #4 that makes it a little tougher. Further, the games that matter the most (Raiders, Cardinals, 49ers) are all at 4:25, so it will be impossible to tell what they're playing for even towards the end of the game. The best we can do during the game is root for Detroit as long as the Jets have a chance of winning (secondarily Dallas and Carolina), and root for Tampa Bay and the Giants if it's clear they're going to lose. So wins by the Lions, Bucs, and Panthers can only help the Jets.
They still have a chance to get #1 though, it's just not very likely because the Cards have to beat the Seakhawks, who MIGHT rest players later in the game depending on how the other games go. To me, a difference between #1 and #5 is huge. I don't think the Patriots make the superbowl this year, whether they have a bye or not. I care about the Jets future more than the Patriots failure. If it was a chance to knock them out of the playoffs, I'd be all for it, but I don't think it has much consequence when looking at the team this year compared to years past.
I personally say fuck the draft position, I want to cost the Patriots home field advantage but I don’t see how the hell we put up more than 14 or 17 points given the above.
The easy answer is lose to the Pats for the higher draft pick. But let's think about this for a second. You can't look at this AFTER the fact, meaning AZ and SF both win and Jets win and Monday or thereafter we say it was a "bad win". Of course then the win looks like a bad thing. But chances are a win moves the Jets from 2 or 3 to 5. But would does a win against the Pats, in Foxboro against a somewhat declining Pats dynasty when they have everything to play for do for the Jets this offseason, going into next year and for our young franchise QB? I think if does more for the future of the Jets than the draft pick. Starts the "changing of the guard narrative" that the Pats don't own the AFC East anymore and a new team and new QB is ready to run the division for the next decade. Starts to erode away at the notion that the Pats are still unbeatable at home in the division. Gives Darnold a win in his first career game against the Pats.....and in their building Could possibly give free agents a glimpse into the possible future of the Jets in taking the division over MOST IMPORTANT - it gives the entire franchise belief that they can take the next step with a big offseason and the right coach to ending this miserable period of Jets football. Some may say that this is a bit of reaching.......can one game really do all of the above? I am not saying it completely accomplishes all of the above instantly, but definitely thinks it can be the start of changing the narrative of the AFC East. With that said, I won't be upset if they lose and Sam plays well and the draft position improves, but I won't be one of those who is angry at a win Sunday
Sorry Mods please merge with the Week 17 thread. Completely missed it and it covers most/all of the above.
