2004 NFL Draft: WRs

That was a good year for WRs. Most of those guys are making an impact right now. I don't know if I would take Cotchery third. Lee Evans, Devery Henderson, Bernard Berrian have been great this season too.

And Reggie Williams, Mike Jenkins, Keary Colbert, and Sammie Parker are all key role players on their teams, although I'd take Cotchery over that crew.

 

Berrian, Evans and J-co are really coming around this year.

 

Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, Lee Evans are better. Other guys (Clayton, Parker) have had better seasons, but they seem to be flashes in the pan. Cotchery is doing real well right now, but ask yourself... If Michael Clayton was cotchery, would he be doing the same thing? Probably.. of course (if he stayed healthy, which seems to be a problem), with Cotchery being a 4th rounder, he was a steal.

 

Parker has never had a better season than Cotchery's 2006 season.
Clayton in 2004 wasn't really better than the 2006 Cotchery.

If Clayton was Cotchery, no, he would not be doing the same thing. Cotchery is a better player.
Cotchery is also better than Evans.
I knew Cotchery would be an excellent pick for the Jets. I specifically wanted the Jets to draft him in the 3rd or 4th round. I wish the posts here would go back to early 2004.

 

It depends on what you want. Evans is faster, but is not as tough as Cotchery and doesn't have Cotchery's courage to consistently go across the middle.

 

Cotchery was absolutely the best draft value in this class.

With this knowledge, I would rather have Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, or Evans.

Cotchery is on an even-keel class with Clayton, Henderson, and Berrian. Clayton's having a bad year, but look who's throwing the passes over there. Cotch wins over Berrian in overall reliability, but that deep threat is great to have.

 

If not for Mangini we would not be having this post. How many other WRs are stuck somewhere on the depth chart (ala Herm)?

 

Clayton is starting to be a flash in the pan as mentioned earlier. He had his "sophmore slump". Now hes just horrible. Clayton was lauded as a premier WR after his rookie campaign. so someone whose shown his ability in the past should be helping the rookie qb. Clayton has failed to get open and has dropped key balls. Albeit hed be better with someone else, but the problem doesnt solely lie in Gradkowski. Clayton is just in a very long and bad "slump". Either that or he mightve just got lucky his rookie yr if he cant step up next season.

 

I agree that Clayton has been a major bust. He is a very bad possession receiver because he drops passes, doesn't get open, and doesn't fight.

Tampa has a lot of rebuilding to do. In my opinion, they're in worse shape than any team player-wise right now except maybe for the Bills or Raiders.

There is a huge difference being able to produce as a #1 WR versus a #2 WR.

The fact that Evans is a #1 WR on a team with Losman at QB, no TE and not much else at WR (Price/Reed) is a lot more impressive than Cotchery producing those numbers on a team with Chad Pennington and playing across from Coles and Baker.

 

Better seasons than Cotchery pre 2006.

Cotchery is not better than Evans in my opinion. Evans can stretch the field, Cotchery can not. I'd trade them straight up right now... could prove to be wrong down the road, but right now, I'd do it.

 

Well, had a bad year. He's done for this season.
He also sucked real bad in 2005 and he didn't have a rookie throwing passes to him that year.

 

How could you say Parker had a better year (in either 2004, 2005, or 2006) than Cotchery is having in 2006?

At least with Clayton '04, you can make an argument.

 

He wasn't comparing one guys best season to another guys best season. I think he was saying that over those first two years Parker did better, but he recognizes that Cothery's 2006 season is better than any season Parker has had.

He was going on a yearly season vs. yearly season basis, not on a best season vs. best season.

 

And still Parker's not been better.
