The closest thing you will find to a negative about Polite from any of his coaches at UF was that the thought he should return for another season. Everything else from Mullen and the DCs have been extremely positive. Not just post draft but over his time at Florida
Why do the guys making the bogus claims about Polite never come back with supporting facts or a mea culpa, especially since this dead horse has been beaten since the day he was drafted? Could it be that they're only here to bash? I'm glad to see that there are more and more people here who will call out such nonsense and don't accept every rumor as fact simply because they "saw it on the internet." Perhaps some day the posters may seek to substantiate such nonsense before blindly believing and posting it. It certainly does nothing to enhance their intelligence or credibility.
"Polite also was asked who would be the first quarterback he'd like to sack in the NFL. 'The first one we play,' the rookie said with a chuckle." - theintelligencer.com
It's on his NFL.com scouting profile. "Scouts are concerned about maturity and character." https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jachai-polite?id=3219504f-4c11-3764-b3c6-cc83363f62fb Though if you're so inclined you can still call it unsubstantiated. Or say the definitions of maturity and character are somehow different from that of attitude.
If a first round talent drops to the third round, there must be something more concrete than just whispers. Where there is smoke there is fire. But from his video interviews Polite seems a bit quirky but a good guy who wants to provide for his mom. So hopefully the Jets can get the best out of him. Its a good risk/reward bet, we'll see.
1) just speculation (like everyone else) but Polite seems to have uber, natural talent that's allowed him to flourish without tons of 'self scouting'. Yes, he WILL need to improve on technique to have similar success in the NFL. And that improvement can only come from self-reflection (and coaching). Will he adapt and take this all in? Maybe. 2) his 'missing meetings' will be a big deal at this level. Not so much at Florida, but in the NFL it can be a death nel. This issue is really just about maturity. My son was HORRIBLE at getting up, and a REAL ASSHOLE in the early mornings. He lost his 1st 2 jobs for oversleeping. He's still an asshole in the mornings, but hasn't been late for work in 15 yrs, now that he's grown up. Polite should do the same as he matures. I think we got a winner!
Good points, but if Polite loses his first two jobs he'll probably be out of the NFL. My biggest concern is the stuff about his admitting that he doesn't do any "self-coaching", that he just relies on his god-given talent, and a belief that he can beat anyone. It's obviously worked up until now, but the pros is a whole 'nother beast. If his practice of not preparing continues he's not going to succeed in the NFL.We have to hope that the light bulb went on for him, or that the Jets can make it so. Otherwise it will be another infamous "Macc Reach".
Most everything I have read states the drop to third was driven by the combine and interviews. Had that been stellar he was a first round pick, College attitude or not. Have yet to find specifics, including missing meetings. Only scouting I found highlighted the fact he was sat down the first set of plays for failure to meet Gator standards
If you're comment was serious and not just a pun, I agree. Coaches do make a difference, as well as schemes played, and the surrounding talent. Williams has succeeded in making some great players with his approach, but probably also turned some off. We'll see what happens with Polite, and hope for the best.
I can sympathize with your son and (I guess... if he's that way also) Polite. I have a god awful time getting up in the morning myself. I can't imagine if your an NFL player though, with literally nothing else to worry about other than being the best NFL player you can be that you can't focus your life on getting things like that taken care of. Hopefully he'll get it figured out and pay back the faith the Jets have placed in him. He's a very important player for the franchise right now as far as I can tell. The first life meeting system by Gase seems like a good way to put in the right foundation too. I have to admit that the more I watch this guy the happier I am the Jets hired him. Literally at no point ever did I see what coach Bowles was going to bring to the table that Rex Ryan didn't.... and now that its all over I don't think he ever actually did bring anything much to the table. I don't feel that way with Gase. At all. I'm pretty optimistic he might pan out into being an upper tier NFL coach as a few years go by here. Not neccesarily "predicting" that but I do think there is a legit chance. With Bowles I hoped.... but never really believed there was a legit chance.
Yup. If he thinks he's already 'the best he can be', it will be a short career. Hopefully watching other pass rushers working at a high level will rub off on him. Like you said, the NFL is a whole different animal. As far as getting fired, my kid was 16. He also got kicked out of jr college for missing too many 8am classes. But now his a big shot at a fortune 500 and calls his own 7am staff meetings, so kids do grow up eventually.
With Bowels we had no choice but to 'dream' of better days ahead. That's because 30 seconds into his pressers we were all sound asleep!
I was dead serious. Williams will not take any gruff from a player. What's the old saying ...."shape up or ship out"?
Seriously? Scouts? What scouts? Concerned? How concerned? Maturity? Character? But no reasons or examples of what they're talking about or why? Could this be possibly any more vague? I've said I'm looking for facts. Facts include specific instances, dates, times, people involved, consequences. We have seen nothing close to a single fact supporting these claims but the hits keep on coming. Incredible. I suppose you realize that in the weeks since the draft there has not been a single item of substance produced to support any of these claims; repeating them is repeating nonsense.
