im not so sure, he has the speed to rush the qb i think...maybe just on some plays we could switch him around...i dont know
What makes Peter's thinks he's so good to be talking. What makes him think he's right. And of course no LB wants to be blocked thats their job their not supposed to take on a block that's when they get screwed and the play goes by them. Noone should listen to this Peter's idiot whose a shitty player anyways.
Well I guess when another player of another team tells of your player warts & you have no concern you must think your player is a super star. It is time for all JV lovers to finally come back to earth & realize they are backing at the very best just a medicore player or even less then that. Even in the 4-3 just check how his stats how many tackles he made 5 yds or more D/field. They have been posted many, many time already so do not ask me for them
See that's where you lose everyone. Vilma is an above average LB in the 4-3. He doesn't really have the size to be driving RB's backward like you want to see, but he has the speed to be all over the field and make plays sideline to sideline. He's not superstar level but he's not "mediocre or less" either.
See this is where you have not done your homework. If you want a LBer that stops plays 5 or more yds D/field then JV is your guy. If you want a LBer that stops plays for very small or no gain or for losses then JV is NOT your man. Baamf has posted his stats repeatly of really how badly he played in the 4-3 also Here is his latest post today I don't believe he has shown he is one of the best LBs in the league. I've posted the stats here a few times supporting my belief. Even when he was getting all of those tackles in the 4-3 most of them were down the field. In other words he is really fast and can chase down busted plays from behind. In the 4-3 he is a good MLB who may blossom into something more, in the 3-4 he may become serviceable with the right people in front of him, but he will not be a superstar. If you can get good value for him (1st, plus) the front office would have to seriously consider it. If they didn't, they are not doing their jobs....
JV is a leader on this defense and has increased responsibility on the field this year. He may not tackle as much but this defense has been getting progressively better throughout the year. (until the Buffalo game) Besides last week I really can't say many bad things about the defense for the past several weeks. I think this is a direct result of Vilmas performance.
To build a SB winner U need a DOMINANT MLB which JV will never/ever be. So I guess your goal is not to win the SB in the foreseeable future
I'm really disagreeing with you or Baamf, Vilma has his limitations and is never going to be that dominant MLB type. He does have great speed and his ability to always be around the ball and be all over the field gives him those impressive tackle #'s (I hate # of tackles as a stat though).
Not sure, although I think if we improve the D-line by adding a big NT and possibly moving D-Rob to DE, Vilma will be able to play in space more which is what he needs for his skills to be effective. If we can do this I think we'll be ok.
I doubt if DeW is built to be a DE. Sorry to say no matter how you slice ot dice it without a dominant MLBer you will not get far in the NFL. Check out Miami with Zach he maybe good but for sure not dominant. Now maybe if we could find a really/truly dominant DE that is unstoppable then maybe we could carry a JV
Champ, You believe that there hasn't been a single SB winner that has lacked a dominant MLB? Really? That isn't even true for QBs (hello Trent Dilfer), so how could it be true for middle linebackers? TBTF
Vilma is like a RB trying to go up the middle with a bad interior of the OL. Because of his size he NEEDS the "big fat dude" in the middle more than bigger middle LB. He is a hard working kid who has been in the league 3 years. You have to give him the chance to produce behind a big DT. I am imagine that he is frustrated by his performance this season more than anyone. I am not comparing him to Ray Lewis, but last year (prior to his injury) people, including me were saying that Ray was washed up and he was just piling on tackles 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. Now, the Ravens plugged in Nata to give Ray the freedom to roam again on Defense and he has turned in a very good season despite his injuries. One other note, some writer mentioned that D-rob is probably too short to be an effective DE in the 3-4. Does this make sense to anybody?
To get to the QB around the edge you seem to need long strides because it a long way to go and you only have a few seconds. Long arms don't hurt either when trying to do the swim move. Most successful QB-killa DE's are tall like Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Gastineau, Strahan, Simeon Rice. They're all tall, or at least not short. Guys that take Fred Flintstone steps don't cut it.
Another one of the 100 reasons I've stated that Vilma is not suited as a IMLB in the 3-4. He has to be moved outside.
And for the 100th time...How the hell would that work? Name me ONE OLB in a 3-4 scheme at 230 pounds? He'd be seeing tight ends and tackles all day, give me a break man.
Uf you are going to quote me do not edit my post. Here is my post that you only quoted part of I doubt if DeW is built to be a DE. Sorry to say no matter how you slice ot dice it without a dominant MLBer you will not get far in the NFL. Check out Miami with Zach he maybe good but for sure not dominant. Now maybe if we could find a really/truly dominant DE that is unstoppable then maybe we could carry a JV
I think you're oversimplifying here champ. Thomas is on the wrong side of 30 now as is Taylor but in their primes I would say they were both dominant at their position. They didn't win a SB because they had crapola on the offensive side of the ball. Chicago has the most dominant MLB in football and they won't win a SB for the same reason. If you're saying though that if you want to make defense the strength of your team at the expense of the offense then you need to have the best of the best at many positions then that I will agree with.
