Please don't use the past 40 years of Jet football as an excuse for Herm.. Compare the Jets to the Best teams in the NFL, not the worst... And yeah, we backed in.. When the team isn't CHAMPIONSHIP caliber, you're backing in hoping for a miracle.... And yeah, we're hoping for a miracle THIS year but, in year 1 of a rebuild with a new OL a new Offense and Defense it's beautiful... At least we hold out hope that our Head coach can come out and out coach someone... At least we have hope our draft won't amount to the GM stating that Heath Miller sucks and we got good Ole Jolley who is better.
Hopefully someday NY Junc will get over his "man" love for Herm & will come to he conclusion that Herm was totally unqualified for the position. Thank you for your support also. BTW the Miami announcers are now making fun of the NYJ chant & Fireman Ed
Either that or some of you guys will get over your irrational hatred of Herm, who won a lot of games for us.
H'mm U R missing something here as this coming Sunday Cinncy plays Den so unless they tie if we win then one of them has more losses then us. Check that out
Champ speaks the truth about Herm. We all knew in the back of our minds that Herm would never win a superbowl. His rtaining camps are extremely light, and he doesn't prepare well. it goes without saying about clock management. Hearing things like "You have time outs-you gotta use 'em!" and crap about chasing cats or chickens in the alley, not trying to gain more yards to put our kicker closer in a playoff game...basically, anyone who can play Madden has better coaching skills than Herm. Going into this season, who had the more talented, more experienced team? KC or Jets? That IS the point. Herm had no experience, can't comprehend x's and o's, and.....WILL NEVER WIN A SUPERBOWL!!! I thank God every day for removing that cancer from our organization.
You really hit the nail on the head with, "Going into this season, who had the more talented, more experienced team? KC or Jets?"
I am not sure I hate him. I get very angry when I think of how he lied to everyone last year and how he left the team in such disarray and shambles. There is no way on this earth that Edwards could have gotten the Jets turned around as quickly as Mangini did under similar circumstances given te same starting point in mid-January. Just no way!................. Herm is not a good coach. Period. Herm is a nice guy. I would love to have him over for dinner, but not coaching my Jets.
I turned on Herm when he lied and then left, but he did us a favor becaue Mangini seems to be a better coach. I'm not disputing that, Mangini has been brilliant so far, but people here act towards Herm like a jilted girlfriend that got left at the altar. Herm did a good job here, I don't know of too many coaches who could have done anything with the injuries we had last year, with Vinny coming back and Bollinger playing most of the season. Aside from that, he got the team to play well and made the playoffs any time he had a healthy starting QB. People here don't give him a fair shake, they try to reason away anything he did well because they can't stand to give him any credit.
Herm went out exactly like the fraud some people believed him to be in his time here. What's wrong with a little grave dancing? I guess I just don't understand why marginal success earned him such undying loyalty and devotion from some posters.
I dont' hate Herm either heck, he just may be the greatest guy on the whole planet....... And he gets credit... He did what he can do to keep the team afloat... But, if we want to go and analyze him as a HEAD COACH - Not based on numbers but, based oin what he actually knows and what he coaches then there's ton of room for criticism... He's just NOT a Championship caliber head coach... He's a cheerleader... If he's got a stacked team and great coordinators maybe he can win... We should strive for MORE than that... Bradway admits he works part time and Herm admits he doesn't believe in Game planning and adjustments just HIS team doing what it has to do yet, people defend these guys...... This league is so damn close that YEAH, Herm Game planning and taking advantage of opponents weaknesses IS what gets you over that hump of mediocity..... Sorry, you're a good guy and all. And I fully believe Herm will be out of coaching shortly and will NEVER be an NFL head coach again.....
If you want to call being fair "undying loyalty and devotion", go ahead. I already just told you when I turned on Herm and why, but that doesn't mean he's a bufoon who shouldn't be coaching, either. Otherwise he'd be out of football like Rich Kotite is, but he's coaching an NFL team now and they are 7-7. I never said he's the greatest coach in the world either, again just trying to be fair. He did a good job when he was here, now we seem to have a better coach. I said that too, but you still want to write off any fairness towards Herm as "man love" and "undying loyalty" etc, so this discussion is never going to go anywhere.
You can't say this. Yes, odds have it even if we do make the dance we lose in the first round. HOWEVER, you get to the dance, sometimes you walk out with the hottest chick...... It may be rare, but it happens.
It always blows me away how we can have Joe Kleckos, Namaths, Blair Thomas etc, brought up all the time on this board. When we bring up Herm, you get the "move on with your life...its over" responses. We were forced to listen to him explain the trials and tribulations of the NYS's for 5 years. I happen to enjoy putting on one of those little party hats held on by a rubber band when I dance on that grave.
Just as an example, John Abraham was one of my favorite Jets when he was here. I don't feel the need to defend his honor every time I see someone take a cheap shot at him. I understand why people have a problem with him, and getting rid of him worked out great for the Jets. So what's the need to make a big issue out of it every time someone laughs at one of his injuries? It's the same type of situation with Herm yet he seems to have attracted a few more...uh...rabid defenders in his time here.
That comment was the breaking point for my support of Herm. It was clear after that comment that the Jets needed to go in a different direction with the HC..
Again, I don't think I'm a rabid defender, I'm just trying to be fair. I root for everyone who plays and coaches here, when they leave they leave. I look at their time here for what it was, and Herm's years here were good. Three times in the playoffs, however you want to slice it that's the fact. I don't miss him because we have Mangini now, but he still got us in the playoffs three times with a dominant New England team in our division. If he did a crappy job like Kotite did or Joe Walton did I'd be the first one to say it, but for the most part we were a good team when Herm was here. It seems like the people who didn't like him either can't grasp that or refuse to accept that and would rather credit Bill Parcells or the Easter bunny for the success we had under Herm.
Well JK, JWN are ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++s to the franchise while I think Blair is always mentioned in a negative way. I really feel sorry for those who put there faith into a con man & now how to watch as others who did not do a jig that he is gone. While not consulting 3rd I would really like to know why you & others continue to attempt to defend him which I think is the thrust of 3rd post
