For as long as we have Gregg Williams running the defense I won’t question a single defensive signing or pick. He’s earned the trust over the last decade and more. He’s proven time and time again that he can take chickenshit and turn it into chicken salad. The group of guys we are assembling is far from chickenshit so I’m excited to see what he can do.
Think it’s all about match-ups more than anything else w Williams. Also teams arent afraid to put their best receivers in the slot..gotta have multiple guys that can cover in space. Think its overkill w wilson trade & all the other acquisitions.Nonetheless the secondary is fixed. Instead of the Wr corps of course.Somethings never change no matter who is in charge.
Thats good to know, I am still interested in seeing Ryan and Poole on the field at the same time. An "expert" like that should be able to tell us how Poole / Ryan can be utilized fully.
Expert is the defensive coordinator. I don’t care what any shlub on the Internet has to say. Like I said in my post above, Williams has earned the right to avoid criticism before seeing how things play out.
Can Logan Ryan play outside? It would be an odd signing if he just plays inside like Poole. The Jets need outside corners.
So if you dont care, how come you just used his tweet? I appreciate the tweet, but it never really answered my question.
I am interested in seeing both of those guys on the field at the same time for optimal performance. I would have preferred to allocate that money elsewhere but Gregg Williams gets what he wants (cept for Ed Oliver)
I was actually using the tweet to support what you said about blitzing. But I’m not worried in the slightest about how Ryan and Poole fit together. We have the right people in place to figure that out.
I mean we signed a good player but I don't think it was good for the long term outlook of the franchise when it comes to developing our own players. I thought Austin did a good job and Maulet has the potential to be a good slot corner. We blocked them both from playing next year and gave up a sixth round pick for a player that might take their spot. We're going to have a lot of holes next year due to the one year contracts on the defensive side and blocked a lot of players from potentially developing.
im just being a jackass dont mind me, but I have some concerns but its all wait and see at this juncture. Williams is a great DC, but I am just intrigued.
I agree with you that the receiver situation was mostly botched during the draft. But I will also never complain about adding very good cornerbacks. If there’s one thing we learned from our minimal success in the last decade is that a good defensive secondary helps mask a faulty pass rush. And calling our current pass rush situation faulty is giving it too much credit
You can develop without playing every snap. Also look at the way Williams runs a defense. There are so many moving parts sometimes to a fault. But the good news is I’m willing to bet that there will be the constant rotation of players in and out from down to down which will allow for experience while at the same time sitting back and learning.
See. Manish made things sound like a layup so that if it goes wrong he can rag on the Jets for screwing up what should have been a sure thing.
I dont think Bless is blocked from starting or playing time.Hes just gonna have to earn it.Rightfully so. Maulet has potential but is likely a bottom of the depth chart guy..albeit a good one. While i wasnt thrilled w the Wilson trade its hard to get too mad given hes only 24
Wow sounds like an even better fit than I'd realized. Nice starting group of three and some promising, young depth behind each of them. In this case I like that each of Poole, Desir and Ryan are/will be on 1-year deals so Austin, Hall or someone else can take over a starting spot next year if indicated.
It is true. Williams rotates a lot more than most so it'll be interesting to see the breakdown if snaps. You don't sign two corners to the decently sized contracts we did to put them on the bench often. That causes them to get disgruntled. Didn't Poole play the most snaps last year? I could be wrong.
I wasn't pissed about the Wilson trade. I thought he was great at Florida and I wonder if it was performance related or he just ended up buried because of all the good young corners the Colts had. I can't see them sticking Ryan or the other dude on the bench anywhere in the first 8 games for someone like Bless. Poole is locked in too. We'll see though. It's harder to develop if you're not playing. With two great safeties and a good corner I figured we'd be looking at corner being the developmental spot.
