I think Broadway Sam is correct. If the Jets come to an injury settlement with Bellamy and release him, his money comes off the cap. If Enunwa retires, I think his money comes off the cap. They Jets could work out a compromise payment with Enunwa where he gets $.60 on the dollar or something, where a chunk of his hit comes off the cap, and he still gets paid well.
I'm a little worried about the outside and hopefully some young guys step up. No doubt plenty of potential!
I think Ryan would be a waste and take a roster spot from a young developing talent. I hope this is Manish bs. As of now our cb room is already over full. We have plenty of talent and already will probably be cutting some of the young guys. No to mention that 8-10 million could be used on a need, like a trade for a wr or edge.
I understand, but disagree. We have a lot of players but very few that are proven. As good as Jackson's cover skills are and as nice as his height is, he may be too slow to ever be anything other than a situational CB for the Red Zone. Guidry is blazing fast, but short (on 5'8") and extremely raw, he may not even be good enough for the PS. Hairston was very inconsistent last year. Austin still has improvement to make. Hall has great ball skills, but isn't very fast, either. Giving Williams some quality, experienced CBs to work with and young players to develop for the future would be one of the best things we could do this season imo. It helps set up the pipeline and improves competition. Unless Douglas can work a miracle and get something decent in return for Winters, I don't want him to trade for any position, even WR or edge. I don't think we'd get anything worthy anyway, and the cost would probably be steep. Let Douglas save his draft picks for next year. Sign FAs and/or campcuts.
Thing is if Wilson, Desir, Ryan, and Poole all make the team that leaves 3 spots max. Hall will take one, Austin will probably take one and Maulet or Hairston will take the other. That leave no spots for players like Jackson or Guidry who could develop into a great players. As I said our cb room is to full. It also mean Austin will ride the bench instead of get play time to develop. It is absolutely a waste of the young talent and giving them time to develop. We already have Desir who will play. Wilson who we used a 6th to trade for. Hairston and Maulet who went went out and acquired last year for the same purposes, one of which we traded for. Not reason to keep wasting late round picks in trade just to make them sit with all our rookies and not develop. I think Desir, Wilson, Poole, Austin, Maulet, Hairston, Hall, Jackson, Guidry, Carter is plenty. Especially given how crappy our WR and Edge looks. And as to the not get anything worthy, there is still a good chance Ngakoue gets traded. There is also a chance Curtis Samuels is traded. There are a few other that can shake lose between now and the trade deadline. It happen every year. No sense wasting money to sign a player who is best at slot corner, where we have a player that is better we are paying less.
Too full? There is no such thing. If you can’t make the team, make the practice squad. If you can’t make the practice squad... what are the Jets missing out on? Also Quincy Wilson, Arthur Maulet, and Nate Hairston are hardly locks to make the roster.
Wilson getting cut would mean Douglas admits he through away a 6th round pick. Hairston would be another wasted 6th. Maulet I can see getting cut but we will see. Just because Ryan has had time in the league to develop doesn't mean a udfa that doesn't beat him in their first camp won't have a much better career. That's the point of having so many spots for corner, to have some to develop. If you pay him 8 million he will play no matter if Austin is better. It's a waste for a slot corner we don't need.
what happened to competition? And our blitzing schemes? And remember. Poole is a FA next year as well. If we lose him, we’d have first dibs to keep Logan
Logan would be a free agent as well. It's a one year deal. You have first dibs at either and Poole is better. Also one of the kids could take over that spot. We have plenty of dbs for competition. Our wr room is full of maybes. Outside of Crowder its all guess and no production. Our olb are the same. Outside of Jenkins is a huge maybe. Again corner is the least of our worries, there is plenty of starter talent and development player. If you sign another starter you have to cut a development guy. The way good teams work is to have both. You have to keep a constant flow. Not sign a bunch over 28 year old who only have a few years of real production left and cut all the young kids so that can develop somewhere else.
Comp pick for anyone becoming a free agent after this year we will not see until 2022. With the amount of signing he has made so far this year we will most likely not get any comp picks in 2021.
Hairston was a conditional 6th that we never actually had to give. Wilson was traded for that same pick actually. Trading a 6th for a player who doesn’t make the team would hardly be a big deal. If Douglas can’t admit that he’s not the right guy for the job I think.
Yes, 2022. My bad. It'll take time to build the team to the point where decent players can walk without much impact.
Good teams attempt to find depth at least in the 6th. Giving up on a player less than a year after trading a pick for him isn't a good sign for a gm. Shows they are willing to just throw our late round picks away. Again I don't see Douglas doing so especially for a cb bearing the end of his career and at a position where we have a better player already. It would honestly be a major knock on him.
He's still has that bounty fund label.. Because Gase is a lightweigh coach Williams needs to be watched.
That is how the Ravens were able to reload all the time and stay competitive. Glad Douglas has that pedigree.
It's the truth. Good team don't just throw picks away in less than a year because another mediocre player becomes available. Especially when they have better already on the roster. Those late round pick and udfa can develop into much better players than a 29 year old nearing the end of his career. Those kids could develop and have 10 more years or more.
