Particulary because the FAN is the flagship station of Mets baseball. Kind of like YES is slanted a tad toward the Yankees.

Regarding the Jets/Giants, the Giants are the older, more established franchise so it shouldn't surprise anyone they're more popular than the Jets. But in two weeks, everyone we'll be shouting:

    J - E - T - S (Jets, Jets, Jets)

thats because the fan is the mets station...Ny still has more yankee fans than met fans...but no where near the difference as in the jet/giant thing

It is sad and true the Jets and all three hockey teams do their business quietly and do it well with little recognition from the mainstream media. I guess people want stories so outrageousness (if that's a word) gets their attention. That's the Giants. I'm a NY football fan, and I didn't think the Giants would make the playoffs, but I didin't think they'd embarrass themselves like they have this year.

I dunno, not many great comeback stories this year - McNabb got hurt again (will he ever finish a season again?), Brees and Palmer never missed a game last year, so don't give me that, Culpepper was appalling...

I posted this in another thread but the criteria for the comeback player of the year isn't only that they missed time last year.

There's no requirement that the player have "missed time" last year.

True, it's not a requirement, but it's a big enough factor, for me, to discount them.

Besides which, Brees won it once already, give someone else a chance.

    Here's the deal...

Why wouldn't the media want to cover the Giants incessantly? It's a freak show to say the least.

Michael Strahan's extremely public and embarrassing divorce over the summer leading way to most of the Giants lining up at the local jewelry store in Secaucus to get fitted for the Superbowl rings they so surely felt were forthcoming. Tiki Barber enhancing his public-speaking ambitions by appearing on Fox News almost daily instead of concentrating on his supposed "last year" of football. Eli Manning, in whom the team invested almost all of the farm, looking like Peyton Manning one day and Scott Brunner the next. And Jeremy Shockey, in his best impersonation yet of a spoiled, adolescent, 13-year old trapped in the body of a fully-grown man, complete with helmet-slamming and emotional tirades on the sidelines, declares they were "outcoached" whenever they lose. Plaxico Burress being... well, Plaxico Burress. Who wouldn't want to cover that three-ring circus?

The Jets, in the meantime, have quietly gone about the business of improving and winning as many games as possible. No whining. No lockerroom tirades. I'm not at all surprised the Giants are getting all the media attention. But remember what the great Tuna once said, "You are what your record says you are." The Giants are 7-7 and we're 8-6, and I'll take the direction I see this team headed in over the direction I see the Giants headed in.

The media believes there are more NYG fans then NYJ fans so they lean towards the team they think will sell more papers. The NYJs past record does not assist this problem either. I have the papers the day after SB3 when we won the CHAMPIONSHIP & trust me you would not find a story about the NYGs in that edition

It's more of a NJ thing than NY, I think. Before I even looked at this originator's location (River Vale, NJ), I could have told you he's from northern NJ.

The Star-Ledger is replete with voluminous Giants articles. To be fair, I do get my daily dose of Jets articles too, but for the most part, the front page of the Sports Section in the Ledger has been Giants-dominated all Fall. It's a lot of fluff, though, which is why I get a kick out of reading some of it. It's always about the infighting, finger-pointing and dischord.

It's gotten to the point where, after a Giants loss, I actually look forward to reading about what absolute morons this "disciplined" team is comprised of and who will be the next dunce to step up an make a fool of himself.

The Giants are charter members of the NFL. Besides, I don't mind being the little brother. In fact, it reminds me of the Yankees and Mets; I'm a diehard Yankees fan, but I have no problem with the "J.V." if they were to make some strides with their own franchise.

Remember, just because you beat Tiger Woods, does not make you Tiger Woods!

    Here's another from today's Post:

I wonder if Cannizzaro and Vaccaro spoke to each other about this.

I think the Star-Ledger has always considered the Giants more of the Jersey team and therefore given them more coverage.

This will change after the Jets move to Florham Park and after we win our first SB under Mangini. We're going to leave the Giants in the dust.

Hope so, I thought there was a snag in the Florham Park thing though.

It was worse when we played at Shea. I distinctly remember the day the Jets beat Miami in 1981 to take first on the Todd to Barkum TD, the Star-Ledger headline the next day was GIANTS SHOCK WORLD because they had beaten Philly. The Jets got a tiny little headline at the bottom.

As far as I know, it's full steam ahead. Last I read, the Jets expect to have TC there in August of '08. Have you heard something to the contrary?
