I know worst day ever to post this but... the facts need to be analyzed and discussed these two “amazing” Douglas picks so far have questionable ability.... It’s called availability... so far I’m nervous. Mims 2020 facts are horrific. He played a few games and every time he is tackled, he comes up limping. WTF bro. It’s football. And mount Becton looks like a volcano on stilts..... more so, he’s been knocked out of games a few times. Not exactly a warm fuzzy feeling. Life as a Jets fan. Sucks that even good news is crap news.
I don't think that we can read a ton into injuries this year. With no offseason and no real preseason this year, we saw injuries pile up across the league like we've never seen before. Hopefully the issues that Becton and Mims have had can be boiled down to that. Now, if they come out next year, after an offseason that is, hopefully, a bit closer to normal, then there would be reason for worry.
It's really hard to judge them this season. It's definitely a slight worry, but not a major concern yet.
This year with covid it was bound to lead to wacky injuries. Conditioning issues too. Hopefully 2021 will tell us more
I'm not ready to give up on Becton but Mims, yeah I don't think he'll be wearing Jets green much longer.
Mims clearly has talent. Y’all smoking that good stuff right now. Talent evaluators all said Mims is on his way to being a good one. Aside from the hammy early he’s been in there every week, left with a concussion today. Becton has played 14 out of 16 games only missing with the shoulder. He’s been a bit more nicked up but get him a full year of NFL conditioning would help
I'm a bit more worried about Becton than I am Mims at this point. Becton is a physical player that is going to get rolled up on and such from time to time. He seemed to limp out to the sideline every couple games even though he'd return. I hope he doesn't chronically get hurt. I mean we as far as Mims is concerned, as soon as you pull that hammy (didn't he pull both) it's a recipe waiting to happen for a down year. Especially if the player returns after three weeks feeling like they're healed, try to hit it at 80% and instantly feel it pull again.
Both of them need to strengthen their physical weaknesses in the off-season (for example, Becton needs to gain strength and flexibility in the hurt shoulder and chest). Hopefully the NYJ have a good conditioning person/regiment in place and they're both dedicated pros. We'll know next season.
Mims for someone who runs a 4.4 is a slow looking possession WR. He shows nothing more than jump balls.
The Jets entire season was meaningless games. It is reasonable to assume that the Jets were very cautious with these two.
It is hard to gauge. Look at how Davante Parker looked before and after Adam Gase. He also is playing with a terrible QB.
Becton: After he was initially injured, Gase kept putting him back in. He’s probably been playing injured since then. Mims: It was a hammy initially. Poor conditioning probably had a lot to do with that. That shot he took due to poor ball placement led to a concussion. Hopefully we get better trainers with our new CS.
And wasn't he measured as having very little body fat? I mean when you're the size he is very little might still be a lot to the average guy, but still. He's a huge dude.
But we see Perriman get behind the defense quite a bit. I can’t remember a single time where Mims has his guy beat over the top. Even plays that are sideline throws, his guy is draped all over him but he has to use his height and catch radius to make the catch.
I think that'll be refined with a full year under his belt and a full upcoming off-season. He wasn't a good route runner out of college because he was just running behind defensive backs in college. Route running is more of an art than its given credit for. Setting up a defensive back to break off a route isn't emphasized a lot in college because the receivers physical ability and speed is enough.
