Jets: Houston works with first team

Contrary to earlier reports, running back Cedric Houston was back at practice on Wednesday, working with the first team offense a few days after sitting out the Jets Monday night win over the Dolphins. According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Houston is expected to replace Kevan Barlow as the workhorse runner in week 17.

I read that too. In the meanwhile, they said Dyson was seen wearing a "huge" knee brace and would not be playing.

Too bad about Dyson. I thnk we will be OK with Miller and Barrett. I hope he can be back when we are in the playoffs...........damn I hope I am not premature in saying that.

Now THATS good news. I can't take another 18 carry, 36 yard performance by Barlow.

I think Houston is our best back, he just needs to stay on the field. Leon Washington is great for what he does, but I think Houston is better for the every down kind of pounding and for staying in to block on pass plays.

This is the right strategy. Looks like Raiders-Jets will be the most boring game on the schedule this week, but that's OK: ball-control offense relying on carries for Houston and rest for Dyson will get the Jets into the playoffs and will leave the secondary better equipped for the wild card round.

It's interesting that you mention this. According to the injury report last week, Houston was not activated because he was injured. Last time Barlow had a big game was against NE in the mud.

This is all just my imagination working here, but I wonder if this wasn't a carefully planned strategy by Mangini. Did he put Houston on the injury report last week knowing full well that Barlow was his best "mudder" when Houston wasn't actually injured with the intention of downplaying his return to the lineup this week as a return from injury rather than a strategic change with hopes of Oakland ignoring him? Could be ...

edit: This also could have been intended to be a strategic move to downplay barlow being in the lineup against miami (mudder)

I suppose it's possible, but if that's indeed what happened, it'll be the last time. Barlow was clearly ineffective against Miami's defense, and the field wasn't even that muddy (what type of turf do they have at Dolphin Stadium?).

Miller hasn't played in a starting role since maybe game 6 or 7. It was rotation for a while and then Poteat for the last 4, who, in my opinion, has been the most valuable to the group. In no way should be Miller be starting anything besides KOR on THE most important game of our season.

Poteat at #1 and Barrett at #2, with Miller/Coleman rotating Nickel/Dime isn't the greatest, but its all we have right now.

Whatever it was, it held up a lot better than the Richard Todd AFC Championship game in the Orange Bowl.

No Jerry Porter and Randy Moss is hurt. I'm fine resting Dyson this week.

Barlow stinks. He's slow, and has NO moves whatsoever. Glad to hear Cedric will be back in the lineup.

Good, Houston>Barlow anyday. But I don't think Houston should be the workhorse. Him and leon should split the carries evenly. Leon deserves more carries, his performance deserves it.
