Hee's the link to Rich Cimini's column. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/484098p-407486c.html And the opening... "Eric Mangini's success with Jets brings rivalry back with Pats. It happened on Sunday in the bowels of Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, a priceless moment that should tell you something about the emergence of the Jets and the continuing hostility between Gang Green and the Patriots. Walking toward the locker room after New England's defeat of the Jaguars, Patriots tight ends coach Pete Mangurian stunned bystanders by shouting to no one in particular, "Take that, Eric Mangini! (We're) division champs!" Yes, they had clinched their fourth straight title, but the mere fact that one of Bill Belichick's minions had Mangini on his mind at that moment indicates the Jets have succeeded in getting under the Patriots' skin. Did anyone honestly believe it would happen this quickly?" That's some big talk considering how far apart these two teams were projected to be at the beginning of the year. The reign of terror up north is ending soon...
Karma will come back on Belichick big time. Stealing a dying mans $1 million dollars will not go without consequence.
Yeah but BB earned back some respect when he banged that hot receptionist. He offered her husband an authographed hoodie in exchange for his wife but the husband said no, so BB just banged her anyway. There's a lesson in there somewhere.
And a few months before the 1999 season -- not long before owner Leon Hess died -- Hess gave Belichick a $1 million bonus. Parcells told me it was to reinforce the terms of the contract and to thank Belichick for not taking any other head coaching jobs (in Chicago, Oakland or Kansas City). Belichick told me it was for a job well done and for not taking any of the three aforementioned jobs; thus, after the Jets' ownership change, he was free to take the New England job. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/peter_king/news/2000/09/11/mmqb0911/
Its from ages ago.. Belicheck got a bonus to stay, and be the HC when Parcells retired, then bolted anyway
I hold no anger towards Belichick for leaving the Jets because he no longer wanted to work under Parcells. If you want to blame someone blame Parcells. We did get a #1 draft choice for Belichick.
62 posts and already you've penned a masterpiece. An elegant summation of one of the ugly chapters in NYJ history.
While Belichick handled the situation childishly (the hand written note, etc.), I agree about Parcells - he should've stepped away from the team.
Yep. If Parcells wanted a smooth transition to Belichik he needed to step out of the picture to make it happen. Even then it would have been a delicate dance. How do you hire a good GM to run the team and then hand him his head coach who was already there? It would have been a nightmare scenario from a turf perspective. As I've gotten further and further away from that moment I've kind of realized it was inevitable given the Parcells-Belichik relationship. And anybody crying foul on the Patriots for poaching Belichik needs to look back to the Parcells and Martin signings and the way they were accomplished before they pass too much judgement on the Pats and Kraft. You throw a boomerang and it always comes back and hits you in the head when you're not looking.
I hate when people quote the entire original post of a thread especially when it's relatively long. But I just couldn't help myself this time, this just made my day. Just excellent...
BB is a piece of shit...end of story. He will never get any love from me, and any woman who is banging him must ba a hooker or just plain money hungry.
Scott Pioli and Mike Tannenbaum were in the Jets FO at the time. Everything Belichick did in NE he could have done in NY. I do agree about Parcells needing to step away. From what I understand from reading his "last year of coaching" book, I think he tried to force Belichick into just taking the job, no questions asked. They should have discussed the terms of the transition well beforehand. But that's Parcells for you, the J-Lo of NFL head coaches...
Pats-Jets could turn out to be an even more heated rivalry than 'Fins-Jets. The next few seasons should be extremely interesting.
