My gut tells me that to win a close game the Jets are going to have to get a lot of help from New England. The 17-14 win in Foxboro is the kind of close game they could win with the Pats being somewhat unfocused and unable to get things rolling. On the other hand a game in which the Jets get a few quick scores and put the Pats offense under pressure early would be very winnable. The Pats passing game hasn't been all that good at times this year, with Brady having stinkers at Miami and home against Indy. I see a lot of potential openings here. The 2006 Pats aren't dominant the way earlier versions were, they're just very good. All of that said the Jets are going to have to play a heckuva game to beat them.
Nah, the key to this game for the Jets is going to be getting the players into the mindset that they belong on that field opposite the Pats in January. An onsides kick or other highstakes tomfoolery would just reinforce the notion that the Jets don't really belong there. Look for the Jets on their first drive next Sunday to run one counter play on first or second down, Washington off left tackle with all the motion going right is my guess. They'll do a few other things to keep the Pats offbalance but they can't afford the admission of weakness that an onsides kick would represent.
You just contradicted yourself, I couldn't careless if people think we don't belong here, but if Mangini would think it would work on a particular time and it works i'd have no problem with that
They allowed 153 yards to Ron Dayne of all people in a game that they needed, and has been ran over too many times this year to think that they will win, added to the fact that Indy is prone to choking, and with a monster game by LJ it'll limit the number of possessions that the high powered Indy offense can have.
Think of it this way: when was the last time you saw a surprise onsides kick between two teams of equal ability? Mangini's challenge this week is to get the perception of his players to the point that they think they are equal to the Patriots. To that end I think he and his staff will be figuring out how to beat the pats on the merits, not via gadgets and trick plays. Misdirection will be present in the game plan because that's a fundamental part of the Mangini/Schottenheimer system, but flatout trickery is going to be ignored is my guess. Tricks and gadgets work against mediocre teams, and whatever the Pats are right now they're not a mediocre team.
Who should be favored? is this a joke? We are in for a very tough game against a battle tested team at their place w/ the best QB in football on their side. We better bring our A++++ game.
I've seen it plenty of times during the playoffs, and usually it works because no one expects it, and it serves as a huge momentum bump, as for them having to think that they need to be coached that they belong with the Patriots, we've beaten them there already so it isn't going to be that hard, probably the only think they need to coach is that they aren't just satisfied with just making the playoffs, but going for it all.
We played great in that game, conditions dictated A wasn't posible but for the conditions I'd give us an A. Now we face a proud Champion at their place w/ this generation's best and most clutch QB and a coach who despises us. IF we beat them I think ti signals a changing of the guard in the AFC east but this is going to be ALOT hardre than our last meeting.
I don't see that. The Patriots weren't even particularly difficult in our first meeting, and benefitted tremendously from the magnitude of New York Jet suckitude. They are no longer gods.
Star Ledger has it at 27-17 Pats. I think it'll be much lower scoring and closer, so I don't necessarily agree. I like our chances, our guys will be ready, and I think a lot of our players play bigger in big games. I think we play up to the compeition as well...See the bears game, colts game, 1st and second pats game. Pats have been dominant for a while, a real good team, and should be respected, but this is our year, and time for a change. The difference this year is that the Pats of 06-07 are entirely beatable, and I like our chances.
