AKA. He's boom or bust. Too many "what ifs" with this guy. I am huge Becton fan but, man, has you scratching your head with some of the way this has played out thus far. He seems...inconsistent. At best.

    Our O line sucks.

Fix that and we'll be competitive.

    Somewhat.

I was thinking the same thing on #3, NC. I've seen a team assign a "spotter" on running QBs, couldn't they do the same thing for a RB? Keep your eye on him every play?

lots of turnover on OL but I gotta say it’s hard to say they are much better

I’m sure we’ll hear how “they need to gel” and I agree that’s part of it, but I expected better today

Making use of one of the TE's in a FB/H-back mode would be really smart. That's another guy there to pass block and keep Wilson's jersey as clean as possible. It's a very rookie bubble type move.

Maybe this is a good sign. All of our crap QBs in the past have won their first game.

Keep a RB or TE in for extra blocking on pass plays No QB can get sacked 6 times and take countless hits in a game and expect to finish the season …although I thought the line played a little better when Becton (he was awful and needs to be in better shape)… went out and Fant moved to LT and Moses came in at RT that’s something to watch…if that unit can gel without Becton there, I see no reason to rush him back… it may motivate him to get his act together… looking at the big picture the offense was able to move the ball in the second half.. and the defense wasn’t bad …that speaks to the CS making adjustments which was a good thing…I’m hoping the Entire organization learn from today and cleans up some of those mistakes against the Pats next week .. we should expect them to put heavy pressure on Wilson… the CS have to figure out a way to protect him

Yeah, I agree. When I mentioned in the original post the "coaches decisions," I was not referring to the play calling. I was referring to the 2 times we went for it on 4th down (instead of punting), the onside kick, and the penalty decisions (take or decline). I guess I was remembering when Todd Bowles elected to punt near midfield , down by 11, with 6 minutes left in the game against the steelers, whose offense had been steamrolling the jets defense all game.

While Becton was not a stud, he wasn’t awful. May not be worthy of that first round pick but some guys on this line are pitiful and that starts with Van Roten and Fant while he was at RT. Center is not good either.

Tucker gave up 6 pressures today but he semems much better and stronger than Van Rotten. It’s a quick game. Watching these games today every QB was in the move. I think the new QB will not be dual threat but will be Quick moving like Baker, Mahomes, Josh Allen and Zac Wilson.

this Panthers D was legit though. Eager to see how we do vs NE

How did Becton go from a potential franchise LT at the end of last year to being a bust, via practice and what, half a game? LOL. This is absurd. Why do fans do this?

He’s been abused all training camp. Came back heavier this year. Injured all off season because no human can carry 400 lbs of weight. He was a good player last year but got whooped today. Good thing he wasn’t the worst of the OL but shouldn’t have to feel the same about our franchise LT like I do about van rotten

I'd much rather have Wilson how he looked today in his first NFL game than Darnold how he looked today after years in the league.

My buddy, who's a huge Packers fan, was busting my balls about this game. That didn't last long though, so that was good too.

    I'll sum it up quickly.

Drafted 11th overall, expectations are high. Played only decently last year and arguably poorly in pass protection. Oft-injured. Got absolutely abused the entire last offseason. Came into camp overweight after knowing his weight was a potential concern since the moment he was drafted. Not great with the media/social media. Liked posts about getting rid of Sam while Sam was still on the team.

If that's not enough to concern you after one season then I don't know what to tell you.

Now *that* is thinking like a Jets fan.

I agree by the way. Nothing happened to day that will have Zach Wilson reading his clippings early.

I expected better as well, not only from the OL, but from the DL, the WRs, and the CS in the first half. I was both surprised and disappointed. It was very frustrating. I knew that there would be some ups and downs and struggles, but thought there wouldn't be all those issues today, especially since the CBs and LBs didn't struggle the way the OL, DL and WRs did.

It's one thing to have doubts, but another to entirely make shit up like you're doing. How was Becton abused the entire offseason? He did NOT come into camp overweight. That was proven to be untrue.

There is area between boom and bust. If you can't see that, then I can't help you.

Per Costello Becton ended last year around 380 lbs and was disciplined by the team for it.

There was also the following quote by Saleh during the offseason:

“Think about it, their body is their moneymaker. The amount of investment that you put into your body is the amount that it will give back,” Saleh said, hinting at Becton’s weight being a concern. “That’s part of the learning progression of young men, they’ve got to learn how to take care of their bodies. They’ve got to learn how to eat right, workout right, rest right, regenerate right, staying hydrated and all those different things that lead to longevity in this league.

“Mekhi is one of those, he’s a young man, he’s a very talented young man, he’s a very large young man and he’s learning every day on what it takes to be a professional. And how to make that next step. We got a lot of faith in him, he’s doing all the right things right now and we’re excited to get him to the training camp and we get to work with him.”

Reading between the lines there, it's obvious Becton's weight was a concern. Saleh isn't going to outright call him fat, he's too smart to do that.

We also have LaFleur outright saying Becton wasn't playing well this offseason, along with countless reports out of camp about how consistently Becton was getting beaten for sacks.

You need to stop telling people they're making things up just because they disagree with you, especially when they have ample evidence to support their claims.
