Sarcasm or not, Walter Football is pretty good. They just catch a lot of flack around here because they predict the Jets to be close to the #1 pick every year (usually right) and hate on the Jets a lot or players the Jets draft (usually right). I would guestimate that half of what that article speculates is true. Which is alarming by itself. Adding 2+2 though, is it a huge surprise that Becton is lazy (reports of weight struggles all offseason and is always hurt) or the team that gets their dick kicked in every week in the first quarter every week probably has shitty practice habits? I'm starting to look at the 49ers injuries pile up every year and wondering if this comes from the way Shanahan runs his practices as learned by his father in a bygone era. Trickled down to Saleh.
It looks from what I am reading Jets offered 14 mil per - same as Browns. Giants were right there too. Yes, I would love to have him. But is it JD's fault he chose Browns? Should we have offered 16-20 mil per for him to make it worth his while? Maybe, but it is up to debate. Ultimately there has to be a price tag for anyone.
It's JD's fault he let him accept another contract, yes. Offer him $16-20 million to fix the worst offensive line in football. Instead he went for the Big Lots! option at right tackle.
This article is quite bad. It just makes vague negative statements with vague references to sources and immediately backtracks all of those statements in 1 sentence at the end of each segment. I can sum this up. “Some people think the Jets staff is bad. Some other people think it’s just speed bumps on the way to being better. Some people think Joe Douglas is on the hot seat. Some other people don’t think so. Some people think Mekhi Becton is immature. Some other people think he’ll be fine. The fans are miserable. Well duh.” I guess this is sports journalism now.
Wow...While no one knows how much of this article is true, repetitive storylines or not, I'll say this, a lot of it adds up. But of all the points he makes, the specific point about JD and his staff being nervous for their jobs is by far and away the most concerning. Caveating again that I have no idea if this is true, it would certainly make sense that a 3rd year JD regime would be nervous since professional sport is a production business and JD's current record (excuses aside) in year 3 is pretty terrible. And sadly, it looks like it's only going to get worse and no better. Even if it's Saleh/CS fault, JD did pick them so he owns it...that's how this works... So let's play this out. I think a 3-4 win team buys the JD/Saleh regime one more/last year. I think a 1-2 win team puts the entire mgt. team in jeopardy, especially if the Jets aren't competitive and I mean soon. I know the Lions haven't won a game but boy are they competitive. And it puts me in a place I don't want to be...If at the end of the year JD/Saleh stay yet the season went terribly, putting them at risk of getting the boot after the 2022 season (based on my theory of them getting the ax in 2022 if things continue to go poorly), do we really want to let this lame duck mgt. team utilize the cash cow of draft picks to decide this teams fate going forward. It's almost like the Sam Darnold argument all over again...I could make the case, that if this seasons goes terribly and the Johnsons are wavering on keeping or firing the whole mgt. team, they may want to fire the whole mgt. team. While JD has done an awesome job setting up the 2022 draft, he's certainly great at acquiring draft assets, it's he's not good at the rest of the job and the Johnson's just aren't sure what to do, they should cut bait. Give the new mgt. team the right to use this great opportunity of picks as not sure we'll have this op again and we shouldn't allow a lame duck mgt. team to chose the groceries so to speak....we made that mistake w/ the Mac firing, we cut bait w/ Darnold to not put the team at risk, we probably need to cut bait w/ this mgt. team if things continue to go south this season. Trust me, it pains me to say this as I'm a JD fan but a spade is a spade and the 2022 draft is too much of an opportunity to leave it to a lame duck mgt. team to decide that fate. Wow, I can't believe we're here after having such high hopes for Saleh....Sigh
That was Mac's strategy. Overpay to a few guys, and then CAP hell. Even if contract is high, it needs to be reasonable.
The WildCard in this are the Johnsons. They are extremely PR sensitive and are desperate to show they know what they're doing. That means going with "continuity" at the expense of wins. They are masters as selling the "future" to the Jet Fanbase. We're always just about to turn the corner. Doesn't matter that we never seem to actually turn that corner as its the thought that counts. Real Fans are Patient Fans. Results don't matter. You heard Woody. Nothing has changed during his stint in the UK. The man is still a idiot albeit a rich one that owns an NFL team. As long as asses are in the stadium, Woody won't demand anything. To my knowledge, Woody has NEVER demanded anything from his management team or his players. Just not Woody's way. At least Hess got fed up and hired Parcells whereas Woody keeps hiring aspiring assistants who have dreams of being a HC one day. Until that changes, nothing will change. There is no substitute for experience be it in football or in life. This isn't Montana. This isn't Wyoming. This isn't Oklahoma. This is the New York Tristate Area. Its about damn time this team and its owner acted like it.
Huh? Jack Conklin fixes half the line by himself regardless of his price tag. Maccagnan overpaying people didn't work because they barley hit the field for more than a season. He "rebuilt" the secondary which worked for a season before they all drifted out of the league, added Bell + Mosely who played like 18/40 games over two seasons for the franchise between the two of them, and paid Trumaine the Man who was a net $72 million loss. Jack Conklin would've been a net gain in each game he played...
Boycott the team. Don't go to games. Don't watch on TV. Don't cry about them on internet forums. Total blackout!
Cman, I recall that Woody was livid after one loss a few years back (I can not remember who the coach was maybe todd?) and the HC actually stopped him form going into the locker room and yelling or whatever at the team... Just wondering why he allows this to continue, I mean he mast have some pride not to be a laughing stock. I mean that guy is a billionaire what the fk does he care about seats in the stands...
Yes he would be. That's why Jets made him a very good offer. Browns matched it, and he went there. Getting him at all costs is very risky. He could have also been injured like Mosley or regressed. And this was on top of already having overpaid Mosley and Bell.
Its the appearance that counts. Perception is huge to a Ownership that still feels it has something to prove. You would think they would stipulate that the next HC hire has a resume that reflects success as a HC. Sadly that hasn't happened and probably never will. Woody would rather hunt down the next unknown HC than go with a HC with experience. The Jets belong to Woody Johnson Not to the Fanbase. Woody can do whatever he pleases or nothing at all and he'll make money thanks to Revenue Sharing. He can try to talk the talk but the reality is something far different. If and when Woody starts losing money from his cash cow, THEN and only then will you see a change of direction. In the meantime, the PR, CS, FO will continue selling the Fanbase the future. Have faith suckers...
I couldn't possibly disagree more that JD isn't good at the rest of his job (the bolded portion). The draft this year appears to have been excellent. JD has done well in every facet of his job, handling the media, handling scouting and the draft, handlng FA, making trades, adding talent, and changing how the Scouting Dept. does its job. He has done more in a little over 2 years than his predecessors have done the last 10-15 years. The ONLY reason we have any hope at all for the future is JD. He's the one that acquired the picks. There's no way the new GM should be allowed to use them. They're JD's picks. He earned them, and he gets to use them. I don't believe that BS that JD is nervous for one second. Maybe the others in the FO are, but not JD. He knew it was going to take years to clean up this mess. That's why he held out for a 6-year deal. He knew that the team had little or no talent and wasn't going to win with Gase as HC. So there's the first two years of his term as GM. He also knew that it would take at least one, if not two or three years to turn things around after that. That's how poor the talent level was, and he knew that it takes time for a new CS, especially when some of them are rookies and a lot of the team are rookies, to establish their schemes/systems, get experience, develop players, etc. before they'd be ready to challenge for a playoff spot. If they fire JD after this season or after 2022, short of his committing some serious crime, I will not only stop rooting for the Jets, I will start actively rooting against them and hope that they never get to the playoffs again. IMO there is nothing stupider the Johnsons could do than firing JD. I'm sorry, but for you to say the stuff above and even think that he deserves to be fired, shows that you're not really a JD fan, so please just stop saying that you are.
Thank God, the Jets don't belong to the fanbase! With some of the crazy, impatience, ignorant crap I see on here, the team would never win a game.
