Report: Giants RB Barber to ink $10 million TV deal
    January 1, 2007

NEW YORK (Ticker) - New York Giants running back Tiki Barber apparently has a job in waiting when his football career is over.

The New York Post reported on its web site Monday that Barber will sign a four-year, $10 million contract to work in television with Disney.

According to the report, Barber is expected to work for both ABC News and ESPN.

The agreement calls for Barber to work on both "Good Morning America" and 20/20. For ESPN, the report said Barber's role is undefined, although he could be a candidate if Tony Kornheiser were to decide to leave the "Monday Night Football" booth.

A genial, media-savvy player who already is doing TV work outside the realm of sports, Barber, 31, stunned the football world in October when he announced that this season would be his last.

Barber already appears Tuesdays on the news show "Fox and Friends" and reportedly was negotiating with Fox News to possibly expand his role.

Last year, Barber ran for a career-high 1,860 yards and caught 54 passes for 530 yards in one of the best all-around seasons by a running back in NFL history. This season, he was nearly as good, amassing 1,662 yards on the ground and another 465 on 58 catches.

On Saturday night, Barber's football career lived on as he rushed for a franchise-record 234 yards and three touchdowns to help the Giants to a 34-28 victory at Washington.

The Giants (8-8) visit Philadelphia (10-6) in an NFC wild-card game Sunday.

Now he can show off that fake toothy smile and lie to us with corporate newspeak.

    What a guy!

I'm conflicted here, I hate this phony but his retirement will really hurt the Giants, so I guess all in all it's a good thing.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks Barber has an annoying sounding voice.

No you're not. I can't stand the guy - I hate listening to him and I hate looking at him. And this just shows what a joke the media is.

I think its annoying that he is able to walk onto a show like Good Morning America or some other serious news show with no experience and take the job of someone who had been waiting for years.

I can't wait to wake up in the morning and turn on GMA like I always do before I leave for school...

I hope Tiki has some role in there. Probably the 2-minute top headlines???

The guy is in great playing shape still. Looks like we know how much he loves money over football. Oh well, who cares. Martin is the RB King of New York.

Leave at the top of your game, move on into the next phase of your life with your health, a solid education and a great job lined up. I think Jim Brown did the same thing. Nice to see Tiki gets it.

ITA. He was excellent on the Fox and Friends weekend morning show. Shame he's going over to Disney.

I'd rather he replace Gumbel, Tiki's voice is annoying but it is 1000 times better than Gumbel, they just need to can Kornheiser and Theismann and replace them with a knowledgable ex player/coach

So what would you call the end of Martin's career?

I'm sure he would have preffered to go out on with a stronger performance and injury free. That said, as long as these guys get out with their health and have the ability to move forward with their lives, it's a good ending to a one phase of their lives.

I still think Martin's going out better than Barber.

Hows that? Barber is going out on his own terms. Martin didn't.
Barber will wake up in the morning pain free. Martin isn't.

However Martin is a Hall of Famer. Barber isn't.
