I just saw the following on Jets Twitter:

I hadn't seen any mention of it here or heard about it elsewhere, so I googled it and found the following.

    https://arrowheadaddict.com/2022/01...ontemplate-future-in-football-this-offseason/

With there being no really good options in FA at RG (Scherff is too old, would cost too much, and is too injury-prone), that really could force JD's hand to either taking Linderbaum and moving McGovern to RG, or having to take another OG high/early in the draft. I'd rather LDT come back, but if de doesn't, I'd rather take Linderbaum, and move McGovern to RG. Still that's not ideal, as starting a rookie C, even as good as Linderbaum is could cause some problems for Zach, but he still could be better than McGovern at picking up stunts. Also, McGovern is not as good at OG as he is at C, but unless I'm mistaken, that could be ameliorated by the fact that at OG he'd be less vulnerable to stunts or alerting others to stunts than he would be at C.

    Thoughts?

I'd like him to come back but this is why the Chiefs let him go. At the least I'm glad he was able to help us this year. We need more guards.

Sure would be nice to have a couple more third round picks laying around.

Yeah it didn’t make a whole lot of sense as to why the Chiefs essentially released him to us. A team with a shot at the playoffs. But I can’t imagine he’s dying to come back to the 4-13 Jets if the Chiefs didn’t even think he wanted to play anymore.

Its not sexy but I wouldn't be against taking two of them in rounds 2-5.

I'd resign him, but more as depth or competition at RG

What isn't sexy is having your 'potential' FQB flat on his back after 2 seconds or being nearly sacked on a bloody handoff.

Get a line built and even at the very worst it will be still serviceable for the next QB in 2 seasons' time, let's hope Wilson can give us what we are waiting for, there are signs but they need to shine brighter and for longer next season.

most likely I think he's gone. the trade was kinda one of those everyone doing something nice for everyone things. LDT is from all accounts a great person and took time off football to help as a doctor during covid. chiefs planned on him starting in 2021. their struck gold with their 6 round rookie who wound up starting (not sure if LDT was hurt or just beat out or whatnot) they would have been happy keeping him as depth for the cheap 1.6 mil he cost but he wanted to start so they did him a solid and traded him to a team where he could start right away. for us it was a half season stop gap because GVR is awful that cost us nothing but like 1 mil in cap room.

for LDT not sure what he plans to do. he's 31 could retire he's made decent money in his career (about 45 million) he can retire and just be a doctor. he doesn't need to play anymore. he also knows with the shortage of lineman if he wants he can always come back so he might mull it over. I don't think we can count on him either way. JD wants to go younger as well. I think our best option for RG is using a draft pick there are a few guys to look at. guy like zion johnson in the 2nd could be an instant starter and probably the lowest risk. we could take a flyer on a round 4-5 guy like lecitus smith who would fit our system perfectly or ed engram who will fall due to off the field issues but is a 2nd round talent.

I looked at the FAs and honestly not a great class to be throwing money around this year so i expect us not to go crazy and probably be something similar to last year

I don’t think Jets will need to spend a ton of money to get similar production as they had from LDT. He was a great story and certainly an upgrade from GVR which stabilized the line for a bit but not exactly an all pro talent we need to replace. Hopefully they’ll sign a FA and use an early mid round pick or two on interior OLineman.
