18 Weeks ago Dolphins fans couldn't have been any more optimistic about the future of their franchise. Dante Culpepper they were told was healthy and ready to go. Nick Saban was coming off a great finish to his first season in the NFL. They had a nasty defense with Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas. The media was picking them to represent the AFC in the superbowl. Blitzkrieg was telling me how Culpepper is a great qb because of his stats. It all came crashing down, Culpepper was not ready to play and in my opinion regardless of injuries will never lead a franchise anywhere near a superbowl. Saban seemed to view the head coaching job as a short term job from the start, trying to get the team to a superbowl as fast as possible rather then building through the draft and UFA. As most nfl fans can say this rarely ever works. While Saban did draft some nice players like Channing Crowder and Ronnie Brown he seemed more concerned with winning ASAP. His offensive line while not terrible seemed to go through patches of the season where they couldn't block anyone. The defensive line for the most part is a year or two at best from retirement. Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor were two players he inherited who are both great but again on the downside of their careers. The point i'm trying to make is why would any big time coach want anything to do with this team in it's current state? The fact that I've heard Parcells or Cowher's name associate with this team is funny. They have no qb, I don't want to hear about Culpepper, Cleo or Harrington. No question they have some players like Chambers and McMichael who are very good but without a qb they are pretty much useless. As I stated above their lines on both sides are either too old or just not good. So if you're a Parcells or a Cowher or someone else on that level would you want to go somewhere with bad lines and no QB? An owner that clearly isn't the best in the business? The Dolphins will have to hire either a retread or someone's assistant. While it's certainly a better job then the Cardinals or Raiders, I don't see why anyone would be running to Miami. And don't tell me it's because of the nice weather. Maybe they throw $10 million a year at Parcells or Cowher and they bite. If I'm a Dolphins fan I'm happy that Saban is gone because he was not looking to the long term anyway. I would certainly hope that my owner hires someone who he feels can be the coach for 5 to 10 years so that they can be patient and build the team the right way. Of course as a Jets fan I hope they hire some retread and pump so more money into free agency. Then in three years when they still haven't won another playoff game we can laugh more!
They used to say the same things about the Jets... That franchise won't be down forever and I'm sure they'll get a coach down there that actually wants the Job longterm. :finssuck:
I couldnt see Cowher in those colors, but it would look awful funny seeing him with that mean look on his face in those gay colors.
best fits, in my opinion: Atlanta- Ken Whisenhunt (from Atlanta; went to school at Georgia Tech; played for Falcons for four years; also played for Jets) Pittsburgh- Russ Grimm (excellent fit; from Pennsylvania; is a former Hog, so he fits perfectly with the Steelers mindset of grinding out wins on the ground) Miami- Cam Cameron (sharp offensive mind; maybe he could hire Donnie Henderson to be the defensive coordinator) Arizona- Ron Rivera (from nearby California; hiring a Hispanic coach in that community will probably help in PR in some way; he comes from the defensive side of the ball- that is good because key players are in place at the offensive skill positions) Oakland- Rob Ryan (they should promote him because he is enthusiatic and not a retread; if they go the retread route with Jim Fassel or Mike Martz or Jim Mora, it will probably end very badly; then again, it would probably end badly with Ryan)
Because I think Grimm will get the job. I think if Grimm gets it, Whisenhunt will leave and take another one of the openings.
in the broadcast booth where he was last year. Jr., on the other hand, probably won't get another HC shot again unless he has another great stint as a coordinator and he becomes a hot commodity again, though one can debate he was never a hot commodity to begin with and he was a bad hire for the Falcons.
Mine too. EDUCATED guess. My totally thrown out gut feeling random guess is Mora. I mean "Mora in Miami" is just a very catchy headline.
